  • Patent number: 8276210
Abstract: A tomographic atom probe uses electrical pulses applied to an electrode in order to carry out evaporation of the sample being analyzed. In order to produce these electrical pulses, the tomographic atom probe comprises a high-voltage generator connected to an electrode by an electrical connection comprising a chip of semiconductor material. The probe also comprises a light source which can be controlled in order to generate light pulses which are applied to the semiconductor chip. Throughout the illumination, the chip is rendered conductive, which puts the high-voltage generator and the electrode in electrical contact so that a potential step is applied to the latter. The probe also comprises means for applying a voltage step of opposite amplitude to the previous step at the end of a time interval ?t0, so that the electrode finally receives a voltage pulse of duration ?t0.

  • Patent number: 8268941
Abstract: A process for polymerizing or oligomerising a hydrocarbon includes feeding at a low level a liquid hydrocarbon reactant into a bulk liquid phase comprising polymeric or oligomeric product admixed with a catalyst. The liquid hydrocarbon reactant is allowed to vaporise to form bubbles rising through the bulk liquid phase and to polymerise or oligomerise to form the polymeric or oligomeric product, with the rising bubbles creating turbulence in the bulk liquid phase, thereby mixing the bulk liquid phase. Gaseous components comprising any unreacted vaporised hydrocarbon reactant and any gaseous product that may have formed are withdrawn from a head space above the bulk liquid phase. Liquid phase from the bulk liquid phase is withdrawn to maintain the bulk liquid phase at a desired level.

  • Patent number: 8261609
Abstract: The invention relates to a probe for aerodynamic measurement of an airflow. The probe comprises a plate rotating about an axis, a transmitter for transmitting a sound wave and a receiver responsive to the sound wave, the transmitter and the receiver forming two elements which are integrally connected to the plate and are placed at separate positions on the plate, the probe furthermore comprising means for delivering information representing a time of flight of the sound wave between the two elements and a temporal variation of the information. In the case of using the probe on board a helicopter, the rotating plate is advantageously placed at the centre of the rotor of the helicopter while being integrally connected to it. This type of probe makes it possible to carry out aerodynamic measurements even at low airspeeds of the helicopter.

  • Patent number: 8261610
Abstract: The invention relates to an aerodynamic measurement probe of an airstream along a wall. The invention makes it possible notably to determine the attack of an airstream relative to an axial reference tangential to the wall. The invention is particularly useful in the aeronautical field. According to the invention, the probe comprises several emitters that can each emit a sound wave and a receiver sensitive to the different sound waves. Thus, there is forewarning of the receiver error that is common to all the measurements of travel time of a sound wave between one of the emitters and the receiver.

  • Patent number: 8258855
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for commanding a system controlled by means of a time-division multi-level command. The invention consists in acquiring two measurements by means of the sensor, each during a period, the two periods being dissymmetrical relative to the division of the command, determining an offset of the control subsystem and a corrected response without offset of the system to the command as a function of the measurements and of the measurement periods. With the aid of these two measurements, the invention makes it possible to eliminate the effect of the offset in the control subsystem of the system.
