  • Patent number: 5563568
Abstract: A plurality of magnetic poles provided by using magnets are arranged in opposition to one another in pairs. The pairs of magnetic poles are arranged with two kinds of intervals between the adjacent magnetic poles. The two intervals have the relation of an irrational number ratio in accordance with the lining order of generalized Fibonacci series. The series of peak values of the magnetic field or the series of peak values of the double integral values of the magnetic field along the central axis of the magnetic circuit comprising the array of the magnets reside at the positions to satisfy the relation of generalized Fibonacci series.

  • Patent number: 5562103
Abstract: A phlebotomy system including a needle assembly, a retraction assembly, and a cylindrical barrel. The needle assembly includes a needle cannula with first and second ends, a needle sleeve for supporting the needle cannula and having a flared proximal end, and a hub into which the needle sleeve is inserted. The cylindrical barrel is threadedly secured to the hub. The retraction assembly includes a central plate with a central opening through which the needle sleeve extends. When a downward force is applied to the retraction assembly, the retraction assembly to moved to an active position such that a locking port is axially aligned with and thereby engages the needle sleeve. Hence, the locking port engages the flared proximal end of the needle sleeve when the retraction assembly is moved rearward and the needle cannula is retracted into the barrel.

  • Patent number: 5563085
Abstract: In formation of a DRAM, a silicon nitride film is used as a mask to simultaneously expose a semiconductor substrate serving as an active region where an MOSFET is formed and a portion of the periphery of a trench. Therefore, even if the alignment offset of a resist pattern occurs, an interval between adjacent memory cells does not change. The interval between the adjacent memory cells is constantly the same as that when no alignment offset of the resist patter occurs. That is, only an n-type diffusion layer of the memory cell formed at a position adjacent to the trench comes close to source and drain regions of the adjacent memory cell.

  • Patent number: 5562407
Abstract: A hand-held deodorizer which includes a cylindrical housing having a centrally mounted fan, and upper and lower air permeable barriers. At least one of the air permeable barriers includes a filter which absorbs odors from air drawn therethrough. The deodorizer further includes a U-shaped handle attached to the periphery of the housing disguising the deodorizer so it resembles a drinking mug. The handle contains batteries and a push-button switch permitting the user to selectively provide power to rotate the fan. The deodorizer can easily be transported and manipulated by the handle and placed adjacent a source of wretched odor. Upon actuation of the push-button switch, the fan draws air from the source of odor through the filter or filters where the wretched odor is reduced or eliminated, and dissipates the odor-reduced air into the surrounding environment. A flagrance impregnated member masks the scent of the dissipated air by providing it with a pleasant odor.

  • Patent number: 5564077
Abstract: A radio communication apparatus of this invention includes a mode designation switch for selectively designating and inputting a desired mode from an analog mode and a digital mode, and a mode storage circuit for storing the desired mode designated and input by the mode designation switch and has a mode setting control function, a mode comparison function, and a mode change control function. In order to establish a radio link, control is performed to set a mode for transmitting a communication signal in accordance with the desired mode stored in the mode storage circuit. After the start of transmission of the communication signal, the mode comparison function compares the mode set by the mode setting control function with the desired mode stored in the mode storage circuit.

  • Patent number: 5562045
Abstract: In a railway car truck assembly, a bearing adapter assembly includes an adapter and an adapter pad positioned between the adapter and a corresponding side frame end. The adapter is provided at each longitudinal end thereof an adapter opening having a lateral dimension greater than the lateral width of a corresponding thrust lug in a corresponding pedestal opening at the corresponding side frame end. The adapter pad is provided with longitudinal end portions depending down into respective ones of the adapter openings and including thrust lug openings each having with a lateral dimension approximately equal to the lateral width of the corresponding thrust lug to prevent significant relative lateral movement between the corresponding side frame end and the adapter pad.

  • Patent number: 5562594
Abstract: This invention provides a novel applicator system for brachytherapy of the uterine cervix which overcomes the problems of the prior art. In particular, this invention provides a Fletcher-like system having an attenuation effect functionally similar to previous applicators, but produced in a smaller sized applicator by a novel arrangement of high and low density metals. The applicator system according to the present invention is constructed so that radiation from the source must transit high density material obliquely to reach the protected tissue, traversing a greater distance in the high density material of the applicator system, with resultant greater attenuation of the radiation for a given amount of high density material. Thus, a far lesser radial extent of highly attenuating material is needed to attain the desired attenuation, and the size of the applicator can be far smaller.

  • Patent number: 5561223
Abstract: A new human gene termed DCC is disclosed. Methods and kits are provided for assessing mutations of the DCC gene in human tissues and body samples. Insertion, deletion, and point mutations in DCC are observed in human tumor cells. Normal tissues express DCC while most colorectal cancers do not. Loss of wild-type DCC genes is associated with neoplastic progression and a diminished life expectancy.

  • Patent number: 5560125
Abstract: A method for drying electrophoresis gel comprising, in combination, using a gaseous moisture removing medium, a gaseous moisture removing medium driving means, and an impingement means, whereby the gaseous moisture removing medium is driven by the gaseous moisture removing medium driving means across the impingement means to provide a flow of the gaseous moisture removing medium on the surface of the gel plates, whereby the flow induced by passage of the gaseous moisture removing medium through the impingement means thereby minimizes temperature gradients within the gel by forced convection and reduces drying time of the gel.
