  • Patent number: 5726634
Abstract: A smoke alarm with high and low pitched tones including a conventional smoke detector adapted to activate upon the detection of smoke associated with fire. A first high tone buzzer is included for emitting a high pitched tone upon activation of the smoke detector. A second low tone buzzer is included for emitting a low pitched tone upon the activation of the smoke detector. The first buzzer and second buzzers are adapted to allow the emitted tone thereof to be adjusted thus affording persons with hearing disabilities warning of the presence of fire.

  • Patent number: 5722367
Abstract: A control device for bypassing intake air around a closed throttle valve of an operating engine while it is idling. The device has a main flow control valve controlling bypass air flow in the bypass air passageway of the device and movable to closed and open positions by a diaphragm actuated by engine intake vacuum controlled by a pilot valve actuated by a solenoid. The main valve, pilot valve and plunger of the solenoid are all movably received on and supported by a stationary slide rod which preferably extends into the coil of the solenoid and is supported adjacent only one end in a cantilever fashion. The main valve includes a main valve body with piston head movable with a flow clearance in and out of an air passage bore of the air outlet side of the bypass air passageway. An annular main valve seat is located at the open upstream end of the bore through which the piston head moves in its axial travel between fully open and closed positions of the main valve.

  • Patent number: 5716028
Abstract: A system and method for loading cargo as cargo units in an aircraft cargo handling system having a cargo loading bay that opens laterally of the aircraft and at least one cargo stowing bay adjacent to the cargo loading bay longitudinally of the aircraft. Two self-erecting power drive units are disposed in the cargo loading bay such that the associated rollers are oriented to propel cargo units in orthogonal directions. The two power drive units in the loading bay are also disposed adjacent to each other such that, when both are in the erected position, the rollers of each unit simultaneously engage a single overlying cargo unit. The power drive units may be simultaneously placed in the erected position with the motors de-energized, such that orthogonal orientation of the de-energized drive rollers effectively prevents movement of an overlying cargo unit engaged by both rollers, whereby the cargo unit so engaged is prevented from inadvertent movement out of the loading bay.

  • Patent number: 5716161
Abstract: A headed fastener clip having a threaded shank with a T-head embedment molded in a hex nut head for rotatably threading the clip into a support. A trim piece attachment post protrudes oppositely from the shank. A pair of spring arms are cantilevered from the post outer free end and diverge dependently therefrom to free ends spaced closely above the nut head. A catch portion adjacent each arm free end dimensioned to overlaps in use mutually opposed marginal edges of a fastener-receiving opening in the trim piece. The nut head has platforms on the head that underlie and support the opening marginal edge when the trim piece is installed on the clip. The fastener clip is first threaded into the support, the trim piece fastener opening registered with clip head and then the trim piece is pushed toward the support.

  • Patent number: 5713162
Abstract: An aseismatic system for constructions such as buildings, bridges, tanks and like comprising abutment/decoupling means for the deck structure from the piers or for the building from its foundation as well as return means for resisting any relative displacements between the deck structure and the piers or between the building and its foundation, which is based upon the principle to prevent the bridge or the building to be subjected to the seismic effects caused by the deck structure mass by decoupling the construction on the horizontal plane by means of said multi-directional movable abutment means, with nearly null resistance to sliding movements and by means of a connection between the deck structure and its abutment members based upon a swinging device adapt to exert a predetermined action of constant value.

  • Patent number: 5715187
Abstract: A binary multiplication method utilizing a combined table lookup and long multiplication to simplify the multiplication procedure, to improve the computational speed, and to save half of the memory space normally required. The method is executed by first moving the least significant bit (LSB) of the multiplier to another memory device before the start of the computation and then using the shortened multiplier in the multiplication operation since the multiplier is reduced by one bit, the memory space required for the multiplication table is reduced by half. The method does not require the use of a multiplying device and only needs small memory space. The manufacturing cost of a microprocessor can be reduced accordingly.

  • Patent number: 5711901
Abstract: A carburetor for a two or four stroke engine having a diaphragm chamber for supplying fuel to the air intake passage of the engine, and a reservoir for primer fuel. A manually operable pump or bulb draws fuel from the diaphragm chamber into the reservoir. An outlet passage leads from the reservoir to deliver primer fuel to the engine. A normally closed manually operable valve or button is provided for opening the outlet passage. The capacity or the reservoir is varied as a function of ambient temperature by a temperature compensator.

  • Patent number: 5709142
Abstract: A cooking oven and method of cooking vertically arrayed food carrying skewers movably attached and carried in a horizontal endless travel path by conveyor means to encircle a heating element array within a single open cooking oven chamber so as to constantly directly and indirectly expose the food to the heat radiated from the element array throughout the complete travel path within the oven chamber. A plurality of internested drip pans are disposed within the oven chamber vertically beneath the food travel path for collecting juice drippage. The oven chamber superposed beneath a conveyor chamber contains an alternating array of infrared gas burners and reflectors arranged upright in a row. A slot communicating between the conveyor chamber and oven chamber provides for travel of suspended food carrying skewers within the oven chamber and incorporates a gasket seal to retain heat and inhibit transfer of contaminants downwardly to the oven chamber.
