Abstract: A heat transfer and conditioning unit includes a casing overlying a fire chamber. An exhaust conduit is disposed within said casing inwardly of its walls having an inlet to receive heated exhaust gases and an outlet adapted to communicate with a flue to atmosphere. The exhaust conduit includes a series of pairs of opposed parallel laterally elongated plates. Inwardly directed opposed V-formed plates interconnect adjacent plates to define a series of longitudinally spaced laterally elongated venturi pasages along the length of said exhaust conduit. Said venturi passages effectively slow down the movement of the products of combustion through the exhaust conduit for increased quantities of heat transfer to the walls thereof. The walls of said exhaust conduit are spaced from the casing to define an independent fresh air heating chamber along the walls of said casing and exhaust conduit for the conductive transfer of heat to the forced fresh air passing therethrough.
Abstract: A dental root canal cutting tool is formed by mounting a wire rod (3) onto a chuck-head (5). The chuck-head (5) variably rotates and advances the wire rod (3) into a guide (6) having a guide hole (7). A whetstone (9) is disposed proximate the outlet of the guide hole (7) for grinding the wire rod (3) with a taper-like shape. A space exists between the cutting edge of the whetstone (9) and the axial center of the guide hole, which varies in response to the advance of the wire rod.
Abstract: An automotive radiator core subassembly including a plurality of individual tubes disposed in uniformly spaced, parallel relationship with the opposite ends of the tubes seated in openings in spaced parallel headers joined into a rectangular peripheral frame by opposed side frame members with fins inserted between adjacent tubes is assembled by apparatus which includes a pair of finger assemblies operating at opposite sides of a support table. The finger assemblies each include a series of vertically disposed fingers interlinking to each other in a horizontally extensible chain. When the chains are extended, tubes are deposited between the fingers which are so spaced as to provide adequate room to deposit the fins between the tubes. Subsequent compression of the finger chains moves the tubes and fins into their final assembled relationship to each other and aligns the tubes with the openings in header members supported on header carriers on the machine frame.
Abstract: A rod is disclosed for use by joggers and runners wherein the rod has a hollow body with opposing apertures permitting access to the interior of the body for the storage of personal items. The apertures are threaded to receive threaded arm members which extend outwardly and are grasped by a user during the act of jogging and/or running.
Abstract: A carrier attachable to a vehicle having a bumper mounted to the vehicle frame via bumper attachment members or a pair of energy absorbing shock absorbers. The carrier includes a pair of straps having a first portion, an integral depending second portion and an outwardly extending, integral third portion. In one embodiment, clamp members, each formed with outwardly extending outer flanges and an intermediate arcuate portion, are securable in an inverted relationship around the energy absorbing shock absorbers and have the first portion of each strap attached thereto such that the second portion of each strap extends downward below the bottom of the vehicle bumper and the third portion of each strap extends outward beyond the vehicle bumper.
Abstract: An exercise apparatus includes a stand having an upright support and a base. User engagable members are mounted on the upright support for the user to exert a force thereagainst. A scale is mounted on the base of the stand to support the user and to measure the force exerted by the user against the user engageable members. A display is connected to the scale to provide a visual indication of the force measured by the scale. In one embodiment, the user engagable members are movable vertically along the stand in a controlled manner at preselected speeds, direction and length of travel. The user engagable members are also movable in a controlled manner transversely with respect to the stand at predetermined speeds, directions and lengths of travel. A pair of scales are alternately mounted on a trolley which is movable vertically along the stand to measure the upward and downward forced exerted by the user on the user engagable members.
Abstract: An apparatus for the manufacture of a root canal reamer and a method of manufacture of the same. An apparatus for twisting reamer material has a triangular or rectangular cross-sectional opening, a chuck portion holding root part of taper-like reamer material and vice composed of a plurality of vice-claws capable of pressing side faces of reamer material while rotating. The distance between vice-claws and chuck is variable. The vice-claws adjacent to said vice are arranged alternately and are able to be moved back and forth in accordance with thickness of reamer material. The inside opening of vice varies corresponding to the sectional taper of the reamer material. The present invention also discloses a method of manufacturing a reamer which has an enlarged rake angle and a smaller relief angle than conventional reamers. This is accomplished by an inside opening dimension of the vice being a little larger than the sectional figure of the reamer material.
Abstract: A conveyor cleaner-lubricant concentrate is derived from a concentrate of C.sub.12 to C.sub.18 alpha olefin sulfonate, and water or a water-soluble solvent. The sulfonate concentrate can be directly diluted with water to form a cleaner-lubricant. Alternatively, the sulfonate can be directly added to soap lubricants. The sulfonate-based lubricants are acid resistant and exhibit excellent lubricating and cleaning properties.
Abstract: A crossbow having a bow prod with a string attached to its opposite ends, engageable by a releasable catch for holding the string at a cocked position spaced rearwardly from the bow prod. The releasable catch is mounted to a cocking mechanism that is slidably movable along a rod, the fore end portion of which is connected to the midsection of the bow prod. The cocking mechanism, when adjacent to the fore end portion of the rod, permits the bowstring to be drawn back by means of a mechanical leverage advantage obtained from the cocking mechanism.
Abstract: A bow press for facilitating the re-stringing of a split limb bow includes a pair of spaced apart handles which engage the exterior of the limbs via the slots formed therein. A rotatable lever to which the handles are interconnected, when rotated from a first position to a second position, causes inward compression of the limbs toward each other. An adjustment rod, which is variable in length, reduces or extends the length between the two handles to accommodate bows of various sizes.
Abstract: A method of bleaching textile materials in water at lower temperatures and reduced time intervals wherein:a source of bromide ions is added to the water to impart an initial concentration between 1 and 25 ppm;a chlorine ion source is added to the water to yield an initial concentration between 25 and 90 ppm;the wash water and textile materials are agitated for an interval between 30 seconds and 5 minutes; andthe bleached textiles are recovered.The process may be carried at temperatures between 80.degree. and 120.degree. F. Preferred ion donating sources are sodium bromide and sodium hypochlorite. If desired, the sodium bromide may be compounded with conventional detergent formulations.

Abstract: An accumulating endless roller chain conveyor is provided with independently movable, article supporting pallets or carriers mounted upon the roller chains to be frictionally conveyed with the continuously driven chains along the horizontal upper and lower runs of the chains and to be positively coupled to the chains while moving around the end sprockets of the conveyor between the upper and lower runs. The carriers may be stopped at any point along the upper or lower runs without interferring with the continuous movement of the chains.
Abstract: Apparatus for crimping electric terminals on electric conductors is disclosed which includes a locator arm operable upon initial actuation of the crimping die to accurately locate the terminal relative to the die before the terminal is engaged with the crimping elements of the die. The apparatus also includes a stripper member operable during the initial stage of retraction of the die to strip the crimped terminal from the die.
Abstract: A pallet is assembled from two identical pallet halves of a molded plastic material, such as polypropylene. Each pallet half is formed with a rigid, rectangular, load supporting platform having symmetrically disposed rows of support posts and latching leg assemblies projecting vertically from one surface of the platform. The posts and legs are so located and dimensioned that the legs on one pallet half can be inserted into the posts of the other to snap lock the two halves into assembled relationship. Spaced skirt portions along each edge of the platforms engage those of the other pallet half to define forklift tine receiving openings in each side of the pallet.
Abstract: A remote control engine starter apparatus for remotely starting an engine. A manually operable transmitter generates a signal, which is detected by a receiver when the receiver, is activated. A timer mounted in the vehicle and connected to the engine battery provides an output at a pre-determined time which connects electrical power through an on/off switch mounted on the vehicle engine to a first relay. The first relay connects electrical power from the vehicle battery to the receiver for powering the receiver. A second relay, energized by the first relay connects power to the starter relay of the engine to provide electrical power to the starter motor of the engine when an output from the timer means and a signal from the transmitter has been detected by the receiver.
Abstract: A pair of relief portions have been provided in a metal foil bearing so as to prevent the metal foil from contacting with the surface of the rotary shaft of the bearing during its high speed rotation. A relief portion is provided either at (1) both the axial ends of the metal foil, (2) on the outer surface of the rotary shaft at the position corresponding to the axial end of the metal foil, or (3) on the outer surface of the rotary shaft at a position further in than the portion corresponding to the axial end of the metal foil and axially extending therefrom up to the axial end of the rotary shaft.
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for preparing the ends of large diameter metal pipe, such as that employed in cross-country pipelines, for welding of two pipe sections in end-to-end relationship with each other. Apparatus is provided for performing the method under which the pipe end to be prepared is first radially expanded uniformly around the entire circumference beyond its elastic limit to a predetermined diameter. While the expanding device holds the pipe end in this expanded position, a lathe aligned and associated with the expanding device is actuated to a machine beveled surface on the pipe end.
Abstract: A multilevel stacking container is nestable in a like container when in like end to like end relationship thereto and stackable in an intermediate level relative to the underlying container upon reversal to a like end to unlike end relationship. A stacking shelf is hingedly mound on each end of the container between a stored position, which accommodates nesting or intermediate level stacking of like containers, and a support position which establishes a high level stacking configuration in which the upper of two stacked containers is stably supported at a substantially higher level relative to the underlying container as compared to the intermediate level stacked relationship.
