  • Patent number: 4018314
Abstract: A vehicle anti-theft device which maintains the braking function of the braking fluid by preventing reverse flow thereof through a closed main valve opening from the wheel cylinder back to the master cylinder until, following an authorized procedure, the main valve opening is cleared. As an improvement over the prior art, the main valve opening is closed manually by a member being seated therein, and this member is then held in place under pressure, the member, however, having an internal pressure-releasing valve for releasing the "holding pressure" when it is necessary to move the member into a clearance position off of the valve opening.

  • Patent number: 4015524
Abstract: Preparatory to a printing run, a printed sample, i.e. proof, is produced on a proofing press using the ink and paper substrate contemplated for the printing run so that the printing quality, ink color, and other such aspects can be studied and, if need be, any adjustments made. In the within improved proofing press, the ink film to be tested is transferred from a driven roller to a similarly driven roller carrying the test paper substrate by a pivotally traversable ink-transfer surface of an elastomeric construction material, such that said driven rollers are each powered in rotation at a selected speed simulating the printing speed of the contemplated printing run, and the extent to which the elastomeric transfer surface is allowed to be compressed permits effective simulation of the contemplated printing run printing pressure. Accordingly, the proof sample of the within proofing press contributes to a more accurate forecast of the printing quality, etc. of the contemplated printing run.

  • Patent number: 4013300
Abstract: A refuse truck fuel tank shaped to provide, not only an internal fuel storage compartment, but also an external battery-receiving compartment. Thus, for non-tilting bodies, the usual side-by-side positions of the fuel tank and battery (or battery box) suffice and are provided; however, for body types tilted by hydraulic cylinders, adequate room for said cylinders is created by a compact positional arrangement in which the fuel tank is supported in enclosing relation about the battery, i.e. the latter is allowed to project within said fuel tank external battery-receiving compartment, thus significantly lessening the mounting space requirements for said fuel tank and battery.

  • Patent number: 4007585
Abstract: A knitting machine of the type using positive contact of a moving tape to correspondingly urge the yarn in feed movement from its source to the machine knitting station, but wherein the movement of a first, comparatively large master tape is effectively transmitted to plural second smaller loops of tape associated with each yarn strand to provide said feed movement thereto. Thus, for example, any spinning oil in the yarn is deposited only on the smaller tape loop and, if it causes rupture thereof, correspondingly limits the loss thereto. This is in contrast to existing feed systems in which belt rupture from the foregoing occurs in the large master tape, and in which other shortcomings associated with using only a single, large master tape also occur.

  • Patent number: 4007273
Abstract: The within method contemplates the administration of a drug, effective as a cerebellar-vestibular harmonizing agent, as a prelude to reading for a patient who is or will become dysmetric dyslexic, the administered drug functioning in a sense like "eyeglasses" to improve the dynamic vision of the patient. In a partially analogous situation, in a person who suffers from motion sickness, commonly known as seasickness, the rocking of the boat or like motion produces an increased or excessive input to his cerebellar-vestibular circuits, with the result that such excessive stimulation causes nauseousness and related adverse effects. In a dysmetric dyslexic-identified patient, while he never experiences symptoms of motion sickness, i.e. nauseousness, during reading, he nevertheless has an overloading and dysharmony (i.e.

  • Patent number: 4006754
Abstract: A fluid pressure operated valve includes a housing into which fits an expansible membrane. The housing is formed with an input aperture and an output aperture each respectively closable by one of a pair of movable flaps. The membrane is coupled to the fluid pressure the application of which causes the expansion of the membrane. This expansion can be controlled to provide on the one hand, regulation of the flow through the valve. Or, on the other hand, the expansion can drive the flaps fully across their respective apertures and cause the membrane to sealingly engage the housing interior to block fluid flow through the valve. This Abstract is neither intended to define the invention nor to limit its scope.

  • Patent number: 4005397
Abstract: A sound or other such alarm which in practice is mounted on a fence so as to signal any attempt to surmount or bypass the fence, such attempt being an alarm condition; such alarm being characterized by its ability to distinguish said alarm condition from non-alarm conditions, thus having minimal false alarms, even though in all instances the alarm basically is triggered into operation in response to vibratory movement of the fence. This ability of the alarm to distinguish between alarm and non-alarm conditions is achieved by requiring a selected number of alarm-operating pulses (i. e. a selected number of vibrations in the fence) before the alarm operates.
