  • Patent number: 3967660
Abstract: To minimize gasoline spillage during the fueling of a pleasure boat, use is made of an overflow device that may be of a see-through plastic shaped to provide an adequate overflow chamber, which is positioned in the gas tank filler pipe, thereby enabling an overflow situation to be visually detected and appropriately attended to. Static electricity grounding during the fueling procedure, which ordinarily is achieved simply by establishing contact between the fueling nozzle and filler pipe, is, in this instance, achieved just as readily, even though the plastic device separates the fueling nozzle and filler pipe, merely upon the projection of the fueling nozzle into the overflow device.

  • Patent number: 3967635
Abstract: A valve for a carbonator having an internal check valve movable between two operable positions depending upon whether the carbon dioxide or the pressure water has the greater pressure, (these being the ingredients of the carbonated fluid being sought). When the carbon dioxide positions the check valve, venting openings having an aligned relation cause harmless venting of the carbon dioxide to atmosphere, thereby obviating any possible contamination of the water source by the carbon dioxide. When the pressure water positions the check valve, a consequence of such movement is that a sealing ring occupies an interposed position between the venting openings to prevent any water leakage therethrough during this interval of operation.

  • Patent number: 3964410
Abstract: An attachment for a sewing machine for inserting a selected length of elastic in a hem formed along a fabric edge, such as for example along the corners of a bed sheet, to thereby contribute to the form-fitting performance of the product.During sewing attachment of the elastic, it is contacted by a member disposed across its feed path, with the desired result that the elastic expands and is thus sewn in place with a controlled degree of tension. The aforesaid elastic-tensioning member, however, is effectively cleared from the elastic feed path during initial positioning or feed of the elastic to the sewing station by a track member which initially moves with the elastic and makes path-clearing contact with the elastic-tensioning member.

  • Patent number: 3963249
Abstract: An elastomeric cover for a chuck having movable jaws. The cover effects isolation of the chuck from the ambient environment while permitting jaw movement.FIELD OF THE INVENTIONThis invention relates to a seal or cover and more particularly it relates to a cover for a machine chuck designed to isolate the chuck from the ambient environment.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONIn grinding or polishing various stock and particularly glass lenses it is often times desirable to immerse the same in an abrasive fluid. To do so the lens is placed in a precision fixture or chuck and then both of them are immersed in the abrasive liquid. A grinding element is then likewise immersed in the abrasive bath and brought into contact with the glass to effect the shaping or polishing thereof. Yet as is apparent the chucks designed to hold and support the glass indeed, precision chucks generally, require the utmost tolerance to insure proper lens shaping or part forming if that be the case.

  • Patent number: 3963304
Abstract: A threaded coupling in which a first disc element is formed with a discontinuous internal thread and a second disc element is formed with a cooperable discontinuous external thread. The coupling includes a mounting plate element juxtaposed adjacent the disc element. Aligned openings are provided in the plate, disc and mounting block elements. A stud element completes the coupling and is rotatably mounted within the opening in the mounting block element but is provided with a depending projection which engages within the opening in the disc element. Rotation of the stud element thus threads the disc element into the plate element to provide a unitary assembly. Rotation of the stud element in the other direction unthreads the disc element and uncouples the assembly.

  • Patent number: 3956046
Abstract: There are described a method ultrasonically connecting, in overlapped relationship, a number of so-called processed paper sheets having coatings of a thermoplastic, synthetic resin material or a number of film sheets each consisting of a continuous phase of a thermoplastic, synthetic resin material and a dispersed phase of an inorganic material. The sheets to be connected are placed between a working table and an ultrasonic vibrator at least one of which has a surface configuration complementary to variations in thickness of the overlapped welding sheet portions, for uniformly distributing the ultrasonic vibratory energy and static pressure to the entire area of the overlapped sheets to preclude scorches which would otherwise be developed internally in particular localities of the overlapped sheets due to uneven distribution of the applied static pressure and the vibratory energy.

  • Patent number: 3955564
Abstract: The use of an eye exercise to induce a mild and tolerable nystagmus in a dysmetric dyslexic child having a cerebellar-vestibular dysfunction, and in so doing call forth compensating mechanisms in the child which are effective in improving the child's ocular fixation, sequential scanning and reading activity. The aforesaid calling forth of said compensating mechanisms beneficially provides a reflex reduction of the cerebellar-vestibular induced dysfunction of the dyslexic child. It is analogous to what occurs in amblyopia, in which compensation in the form of central functional suppression of vision in one eye is restored to in order to avoid double vision and the discomfort it gives rise to. Also, like amblyopia, if the dysfunctioning of the cerebellar-vestibular is not detected early and corrected, as by the compensation referred to, it might become irreversible in time.
