  • Patent number: 5351459
Abstract: An improved strength and decoration window grid system is provided for a window having a sash and at least one window pane. The system consists of a mechanism for connecting vertical extruded profile bars to horizontal extruded profile bars to form a strong grid pattern. The ends of the vertical extruded profile bars and the ends of the horizontal extruded profile bars are secured to the inner sides of the sash against the at least one window pane of the window to divide the window pane into a plurality of lights. This will substantially increase strength to the window to prevent twisting, horizontal load pressure and vertical load pressure thereto, while giving real optical enrichment to the window.

  • Patent number: 5334100
Abstract: The preferred embodiment of the invention is a safe birling amusement for use in swimming pools, in which a rotating central cylinder is flanked longitudinally by two stationary approach cylinders with flattened tops; pipes extending through the centers of all three cylinders support the structure, and these support pipes are set in adjustable brackets in two facing vertical walls of the pool. All three cylinders are covered with soft foam, and a foam guard is placed over the bracket and poolside surface; thus approach to the birling cylinder is easy and safe. As well, the rotational speed of the birling cylinder is decreased by virtue of paddle-wheels within that contact the pool water; this allows users to balance more easily.

  • Patent number: 5328732
Abstract: Package stuffing material is formed by rolling strips of relatively rigid paper stock to cylindrical bodies. The strip is rolled so that the outer longitudinal edge is adhered to the outer surface of the cylinder while the inner end hangs free. The inner end extends between a 90.degree. to 180.degree. arc along the inner wall and when the cylindrical is pressed its edge engages the wall substantially limiting the degree of distortion.

  • Patent number: 5314213
Abstract: A pipe coupling, comprising a sleeve having at least one end adapted for the insertion of a pipe and being provided with a substantially conically shaped supporting surface for a sealing ring. A compression ring is provided by which the sealing ring may be compressed around the pipe. The sealing ring is composed of a circumferentially compressible, but in cross section rather undeformable annular core, which is more particularly bent of a helical body having substantially circular windings, and a sheath of elastomeric material which forms the actual seal. The sheath completely encloses the annular core both cross sectionally and circumferentially. The supporting surface has a progressively decreasing diameter in the pressing direction.

  • Patent number: 5314125
Abstract: A grinding method is provided which is capable of uniformly and precisely grinding objects for a short time, softening shocks produced when the rotation of a grinding barrel is changed between the forward direction and the backward direction to thereby eliminate bruises on the surface of grounded objects, coping with grinding for a large number of objects to be ground in a small quantity or a heavy-weight or a large-size object to be ground, and preventing contacts and collisions between objects to be ground. The grinding method comprises the steps of rotatably mounting not less than one grinding barrels at locations away from the central axis of a rotary drum, enclosing a grinding material and objects to be ground in the grinding barrels, rotating the grinding barrels in the directions identical to and opposite to the direction in which the rotary drum is rotated, and grinding the objects to be ground. An grinding apparatus for implementing the above-mentioned method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 5313735
Abstract: A rotatable mechanism for reversibly attaching an extension onto a long member is described; examples include an ergonomically correct extension, which fits and supports the entire natural shape of the arm, from the heel of the hand, along the inner wrist and up the forearm, thus combining the principle of leverage with the body's natural muscular dynamics, to transfer the load and strain away from the wrist to the more powerful muscles of the upper arm and shoulder. In a first embodiment, splines run on the outside of a shaft affixed previously to a handle, and co-operate with splines on the inside surface of a cylindrical hole in the extension. A screw inserted through the extension and threaded into a hole in the end of the handle prevents longitudinal separation between the handle and extension, and the splines prevent rotational movement.

  • Patent number: 5309773
Abstract: A sample of powder granules flowing through an online conveyor is removed periodically and fed to a supply hopper where a predetermined amount of granules are stored. A small portion of the granules are removed from the supply hopper and continuously fed to the upper surface of a rotary table to form a single layer thereon. The sample on the table is optically sensed to detect foreign particles. The foreign particles are removed and subsequently the good particles are removed and passed to a weighing hopper. The ratio of good product after sensing and the sample in the hopper is calculated to determine the relative amount of foreign particles flowing in the system.

  • Patent number: 5303116
Abstract: A surge protector or transient suppressors for AC power lines having its components mounted on a circuit board. The metalization of the board are configured to present as large a surface area as possible, given the topology of the board, to the flow of current. A return conductor is placed on the opposite side of the board with a large surface area corresponding to the first conductor. The magnetic field between the two conductors is substantially cancelled. This configuration reduces the magnetic field intensities associated with the flow of current, thereby reducing self-inductance.
