  • Patent number: 4682754
Abstract: A turbine pedestal for supporting turbines and a generator installed in a generating plant is composed of a frame split into segments formed of concrete reinforcing steel platen and reinforced concrete as its main components. The turbine pedestal includes a deck of a concrete structure open only at the top and having reinforcements in addition to the platen arranged compactly in the vicinity of the top of the concrete as in a structure of the prior art, but less than the prior art in the vicinity of the sides and bottom due to the reinforcing affect of the platen. The segments of the frame formed of steel are prefabricated in the plant and have a shape and weight suitable for transportation to the site of construction. The segments of the frame are firmly connected together as by welding or interconnected through a concrete connection structure having compactly arranged reinforcements.

  • Patent number: 4659306
Abstract: For determining the ratio in which two constituents are blended in a mixture comprising an oxygen-carrying gas and a gaseous fuel to be combusted by a primary combustion system, the thermodynamic conditions (composition, pressure, temperature) of the two gases prior to and after blending being variable, a secondary combustion system reacting part of the fuel and part of the oxygen-carrying gas is used as a reference combustion chamber. A mixture reproducibly analogous with the mixture burnt by the primary combustion system is used for reaction in the reference combustion chamber. Combustion in the reference combustion chamber is measured to obtain at least one signal for measuring and controlling the ratio between the two constituents of the mixture burnt by the primary combustion system, the reference combustion chamber allowing the rapid, accurate and reliable determination of the ratio between the gaseous fuel and the oxygen-carrying gas contents of the mixture burnt by the primary combustion system.

  • Patent number: 4651550
Abstract: For decreasing the width of a thin slab: a turning roll contacts the thin slab being conveyed at a certain contact angle to curve the thin slab; a tension applying device disposed in front and at the back of the turning roll, applys a tension to the thin slab forwardly and rearwardly in the direction of conveyance of the slab. Thus, the slab can be decreased in its width to a satisfactory section with no buckling loop forming portions for forming loops of the hot thin slab at the inlet and the outlet sides of the apparatus for decreasing the width of the thin slab absorb the intermittent proceeding of the hot thin slab in the direction of flow of the material. Thus, the continuous receipt and the delivery of the slab are made possible while the intermittent width decrease is performed, and the combination of the continuous casting equipment with the hot finish rolling equipment is materialized.

  • Patent number: 4648200
Abstract: The crustacean trap, particularly for a lobster, is molded of separate bottom, opposite side, opposite end and top panels that are thereafter assembled by sliding edge channel joints together for the sides and ends, after which the tops and bottoms are assembled through snap joints. The edge joints are provided with vertically extending channels formed of flanges that permit only vertical assembly or disassembly, and the snap joints for the top and bottom panels are hook-shaped pins received in trapping type apertures to thereafter prevent disassembly of the sides and ends. Crustacean ingress is facilitated and egress inhibited by a funnel formed of molded rigid parallel sides and pivotally adjusted non-parallel sides, with the adjustment being an arcuate array of apertures on the parallel sides to selectively mate with apertures on the non-parallel sides. The parallel sides have cross beams snap assembled to the top and disposed to form a lobster removal opening adjacent the funnel opening.

  • Patent number: 4648199
Abstract: Disclosed is a crustacean trap (20) formed by a plurality of monolithic molded panels (24-30) serially interconnected via coupled pairs of interlocking channels integral to side margins of the panels to form a substantially non-deformable frame defining an unimpeded access portal while retaining elements (124, 132) along base margins of the panels provide a frame for a cast-in-place base (134). A lid (22) providing limited access into the interior and more limited egress from the interior of the trap is pivotally positionable within the portal between the serially interconnected panels to control access through the portal. Counter-rotating latches, lost motion and elongated brackets for the pivotal elements of the lid enhance the trap's reliability by requiring particular manual motions to pivot the lid between its closed and open positions.

  • Patent number: 4648990
Abstract: YThis invention concerns solidification products capable of immobilizing radioactive wastes containing water soluble solid components stably for a long period of time, as well as a process for producing the same, in which radioactive wastes are immobilized with an alkaline earth metal silicate compound and the alkaline earth metal silicate compound intakes the water content in the solidifying agent as the bound water to or a hydrate. High temperature and high humidity condition has been found to be necessary upon curing in order to take the water content as the bound water. This invention can provide solidified wastes with less development of detects such as open pores or cracks.

  • Patent number: 4644450
Abstract: A lighting unit for liquids comprises a tubular member with a flange at one end and a screwthread at the other whereby it can be secured in the wall of a vessel to hold liquid. A holder engaged in the rear end of the tubular member holds a bulb such as an automobile head lamp bulb, and a lens is mounted in a recess in the front end of the tubular member. The lens has a convex front face, a concave rear face and a negative focal length and, with the light mounted close to the rear of the lens, gives a very wide angle of illumination. The angle may for example be 172.degree. and the tubular member may be of only 7 cm diameter.

  • Patent number: 4637134
Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a plurality of kinds of electronic parts into a predetermined position of a printed board. An electronic part which is successively supplied from an electronic part supplying means is fed to a predetermined supply positioning end by a feeding means. An insertion unit carries the electronic part from this position to a predetermined specific position, thereby inserting the electronic part into the printed board. The printed board is held and positioned by an X-Y table. At a position corresponding to said specific position, the apparatus has a clinching means for clinching the leads of the electronic part which is inserted into the printed board and a control means which controls a predetermined operation of each means.
