  • Patent number: 5283813
Abstract: A method and apparatus for controlling an equalizer receiving the output of an unknown system in order to produce a desired response for recovering the input to the system are characterized by iteratively adjusting the equalizer such that the unknown system combined with the equalizer behaves essentially as a linear system whose (t,n) taps, for some combinations of t and n, are iteratively adjusted according to the following rule: ##EQU1## where s.sub.t,n denotes the (t,n) tap before the iteration, s'.sub.t,n denotes the (t,n) tap after the iteration, I is a preselected integer greater then or equal to one, .alpha..sub.i i=1,2 . . . I are preselected scalars that may vary from iteration to iteration, and p.sub.i, q.sub.i i=1,2, . . . I are preselected non-negative integers such that p.sub.i +q.sub.i .gtoreq.2.

  • Patent number: 5282916
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a drip irrigation device by continuously extruding a tube and simultaneously feeding a plurality of dripper units in succession within the tube as it is extruded. Each dripper unit is arrested as it arrives at a first location which is a short distance downstream of the extrusion head where the extruded tube is still tacky, and is then moved transversely to bring it into light contact with the tacky surface of the extruded tube to cause the dripper unit to lightly adhere to the tube and to begin to move axially with it. A short distance downstream of the first location where the dripper unit has attained the same axial velocity as the extruded tube, the dripper unit is pressed into firm bonding contact with the tacky inner surface of the extruded tube.

  • Patent number: 5281427
Abstract: A process to produce different kinds of pastries in which an extruder forms regular discs of dough with a controlled thickness and diameter by etruding dough through a central opening of a lower circular plate which is heated and to which an upper plate descends to an adjustable distance. For producing samoosas thin discs of dough are formed which are partly cooked at one side, stacked and further pressurized and heated. Each disc is cut into four quarters in which triangles are inscribed with their top on the middle of the circular side of each quarter. Filling material is charged in the middle of each triangle whereupon the four quarters are simultaneously folded into triangles, firstly along the sides and then along the bottom by using three hinged plates, one set for each quarter to be folded. For producing filled tortillas the partly cooked disc of dough is filled and rolled by a rolling machine.

  • Patent number: 5246147
Abstract: A liquid material dispenser includes a housing formed with a reservoir for the liquid to be dispensed, an outlet through which the liquid is to be dispensed, and a connecting passageway between the reservoir and the outlet. A diaphgram is located in a cavity in the passageway such that one side of the diaphragm defines a pumping chamber, and the other side defines a control chamber. An electrolytic cell generates a gas to the control chamber according to the quantity of electrical current passed through the electrolyte, for driving the diaphragm through forward strokes to pump liquid to the outlet; and a slow-acting vent vents the gas from the control chamber to the atmosphere at a rate lower than that of generation of gas by the electrolytic cell, for driving the diaphragm through return strokes to refill the pumping chamber.

  • Patent number: 5237287
Abstract: A method and apparatus are described for demodulating a modulated signal having a carrier component and a data component, in which the modulated signal is split into at least two parts one of which is delayed with respect to the other, and the two parts are multiply-coupled and linearly-combined to produce a combined output corresponding to a function of the data component independent of the carrier component frequency. In the described method and apparatus the undelayed part is coupled with the delayed part in a multiport coupler, wherein the parts are relatively phase-shifted to produce a plurality of phase-shifted signals; and the phase-shifted signals are linearly combined such that the data component, in the function of the combined output, is not affected by variations in frequency or phase of the carrier component. This enables a robust direct-detection DPSK receiver.
