Abstract: A flow reducer device particularly useful as a drip irrigation emitter, includes a body member having a flow regulating region formed with a cavity extending through the body member and closed at its opposite sides by a deformable diaphragm, preferably an elastomeric sleeve. The device is attachable to a tube of pressurized fluid such that the outer face of each diaphragm side is exposed to the fluid pressure at the fluid inlet, and the inner face of each diaphragm side is exposed to the fluid pressure within the cavity, such that the diaphragm sides deform towards or away from each other within the cavity to regulate the fluid flow.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for making drip irrigation lines, by forming two (or more) tubes in side-by-side relation joined together at a juncture including a plurality of preformed members bonded to and within the juncture at spaced locations along the longitudinal axes of the preformed members and of the juncture. Each of the preformed members includes a pair of flow-reducing, groove formations, one on each side of the longitudinal axis of the preformed member. The juncture is slit along the longitudinal axes of the preformed members to thereby form two (or more) drip irrigation lines each integrally formed with a section of the plurality of preformed members, each section having one of the groove formations serving as a flow-reducer element in the respective line.
Abstract: A tapping fitting for a pipe, preferably a plastic pipe, includes a rotatable blade assembly threaded within a sleeve non-rotatably received within a housing such that rotation of the blade assembly causes it to cut a cylindrical slug from the pipe to which the housing is attached. The opposite faces of the sleeve are exposed to the fluid pressure within the pipe thereby producing a balance of forces substantially eliminating transverse creep. In addition, the attaching section of the fitting is formed with a bore which is engageable by a sealing ring received around the rotatable blade assembly and which is of sufficient length to accommodate any axial creep, thereby enabling the blade assembly also to serve as a valve.
Abstract: A filter operable in either a filtering mode or in a flushing mode, includes a cylindrical filter body, and a plurality of partitions defining a plurality of axially-extending, circumferentially-spaced filter compartments each communicating with an axial section of the filter body. All the filter compartments communicate with the fluid inlet except for at least one filter compartment which is blocked. A flushing pathway is provided between each blocked compartment and the flushing outlet. A valve in the flushing pathway is movable either to (a) a closed position during the normal filtering mode, or (b) an open position during the flushing mode.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for navigation of a vehicle travelling over a terrain in which the changes in elevation of the vehicle are continuously measured, in addition to the distance and heading. The distance measurements are continuously corrected by the changes in elevation in determining the instantaneous location of the vehicle with respect to a known point. The approximate location can also be obtained from a satellite GPS (global positioning system). The measured elevation may also be compared with the elevation in reference data, such as data in a three-dimensional map of the area to prevent the accumulation of errors or to make the determined location more precise.
Abstract: A signal processing system includes a plurality of detectors for detecting signals, each detector receiving signals from plural sources; and a processor for receiving the detected signals and producing a reconstruction filter for filtering the detected signals to produce reconstructed source signals in which each source signal is reconstructed without interference from the other source signals. The reconstruction filter is produced such that cross-polyspectra of the reconstructed signals are forced to approach zero.

Abstract: A container includes bottom and side walls defined by a first longitudinally-extending channel member open at the top, a pivotal lid defined by a second longitudinally-extending channel member open at the bottom and pivotally mounted to one longitudinal edge of the first channel member, and end walls defined by a pair of end plates having slots on their inner faces receiving the ends of the first channel member, and recesses on their inner faces receiving the ends of the second channel member and permitting it to pivot with respect to the first channel member.
Abstract: A method of inspecting an article with respect to a stored list of reference features by scanning the article to detect online features, transforming their coordinates according to registration transformation parameters to correct for misregistration of the article, and comparing the transformed coordinates of the online features with those of the stored reference features for matches. According to this method, an initial estimate of the required registration transformation parameters is provided and is dynamically improved by continuously computing and periodically updating the estimate from the coordinates of the online features detected during the scanning of the article and the coordinates of the stored reference features.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for analyzing the electrical activity of the heart by Body Surface Potential Mapping (BSMP) in which an array of electrodes are applied over the thoracic region of a subject's body for producing measurements of the electrical signals generated in the thoracic region, and the measurements are processed for indicating certain electrical events in the subject's body. The array of electrodes are utilized to measure only the times of crossing of the electrical signals over a preset threshold.

Abstract: A method of processing a file of recorded color separation values of color elements for use in preparing polychromatic printing plates in order to reduce or eliminate defects caused by misregistration by printing, includes the steps: (a) defining a plurality of predetermined color types; (b) identifying the color pairs where there is a change in color between adjacent color elements; and (c) for each color pair, determining whether or not to make a frame according to first predetermined criteria based on specific combination of color types in the pair, and then according to second predetermined criteria based on the difference in luminance between corresponding color separations in the respective pair.
Abstract: A three-dimensional, non-contact scanning apparatus for scanning an object, particularly a foot, includes a holder for the object to be scanned, a main carriage movable linearly towards and away from the holder and the object when held thereon, a rotatable carriage rotatably mounted on the main carriage and formed with an opening for accommodating the holder and the object when held thereby, and an optical-beam scanner carried by the rotatable carriage to rotate therewith so as to scan the object by an optical beam outputted by the scanner.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a valve including a valve member having: a predetermined surface area on its inlet side exposed to the inlet pressure to produce a force tending to move the valve member to an open position; a larger surface area on its opposite, control side exposed to the inlet pressure to produce a larger force tending to move the valve member to its closed position; a passageway through the valve member; a restrictor orifice in the passageway; and a one-way valve in the passageway permitting fluid flow only from the inlet side to the control side of the valve member, to prevent unintentional opening of the valve member in the event of a drop in the inlet pressure followed by the resumption of the inlet pressure.

The optical fiber has a proximal end to be coupled to a source of laser energy, and a distal end to project outwardly of the cannula in the extended, operative position of the optical fiber. The distal end of the optical fiber has a roughened outer surface for scattering the laser energy laterally outwardly of the optical fiber.
