  • Patent number: 6262947
Abstract: A timepiece includes a rotatable bezel mounted on the housing. A storage area inside the housing contains a plurality of folded or crumpled sector elements. The sector elements each have an apex which is attached to a curved spring-like wire and a base which is attached to the housing. Rotating the bezel causes detents in the bezel to push the wires out of the storage area and causes the wires and the sector elements to cover a conventional solid dial face which is mounted in the housing thereby changing the appearance of the dial face. The sector members may have various indicia formed thereon.

  • Patent number: 5143118
Abstract: A solenoid control valve includes a solenoid housing which encloses a solenoid and an armature which is actuated by the solenoid in order to control the flow of fluid through the valve. Contact spring makes continuous electrical contact with the armature and the armature is electrically insulated from the valve except when the solenoid brings the armature into contact with a stop portion which is integrally formed in the body of the valve. Contact between the armature and the stop completes an electrical circuit between the sring contact, the armature and the valve body, thereby providing a precise electrical indication of the mechanical state of the valve without any degradation due to hysteresis or mechanical losses.

  • Patent number: 5078716
Abstract: The present invention relates to surgical instruments for removing protruding tissue such as tonsils, warts, polyps and like, from the body, more specifically, it relates to loop type snare instruments supplying a high frequency electrical current for coagulation and cutting during the removal of these body growths. In a primary embodiment of the invention, a loop is provided which is made of electrically conductive wire connected to a loop made of electrically conductive wire within a tubular insulated sheath. The wire is connected to a handle assembly that will allow the loop to be extended from or retracted into the distal end of the tubular insulated sheath. The loop is covered over a major portion of its circumference by an insulating material, leaving only a minor portion of its circumference uninsulated at the portion of the loop most distal from the tubular sheath, and electrically active.

  • Patent number: 5048224
Abstract: An insect trap includes a vertically mounted member, the outer surface of which is coated with a non-drying adhesive layer. The ends of the tubular member are mounted in end caps which serve to position the tubular member in a container and also to catch and retain insects which have been killed by the trap. The container includes perforated panels which may be selectively removed by a user to expose the tubular member to insects while shielding it from view.

  • Patent number: 4998367
Abstract: A compound grip for handguns for delaying, redirecting and absorbing shock produced after firing attaches to the rear frame portion of the handgun adjacent the trigger guard. The compound grip includes an elastomeric base, a pair of palmpiece inserts and alignment finger rests. The base also includes one or more fluid filled bags rearward of the rear frame portion of the handgun. A pair of mirror image palmpiece inserts each include an embedded gel sac which delays the aftershock forces. Upon firing of the handgun, the gel sac delays the aftershock forces, the fluid-filled bags absorbs these forces and redirects them, the elastomeric finger rests maintain realignment of the handgun, and the palmpiece inserts retain adequate "feel" of the handgun.

  • Patent number: 4993456
Abstract: A pinch valve assembly includes a valve body in which a plunger is spring loaded against a portion of a flexible tube which passes through the valve body. The plunger causes the flexible tube to collapse preventing flow through the tube. Energization of a solenoid which is mounted on the valve body causes the plunger to release the tube, permitting flow. In an alternative embodiment, energization of the solenoid causes the plunger to bear on the flexible tube thereby providing a normally open valve arrangement. In another alternative embodiment the plunger bears on a plurality of flexible tubes thereby facilitating simultaneous control of different fluids. In still another alternative embodiment the plunger is mounted in roller bearings and the top of the plunger bears on an electrical switch contact which provides an electrical verification of the open or closed state of the pinch valve assembly.

  • Patent number: 4966695
Abstract: A high pressure liquid chromatography jacket includes a rectangular, fluid-tight enclosure which has a removable cover on which a pair of tubing seal fittings are mounted. The fittings form a fluid-tight seal around the inlet and discharge tubes of a chromatographic column which is mounted in the enclosure. The enclosure is connected to a source of temperature controlled fluid which circulates through the enclosure and controls the temperature of the chromatographic column. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, a valve is provided which allows sample materials being loaded to enter a sample storage loop, which is exposed to the temperature controlled fluid. The sample, whose temperature has been controlled by the temperature controlled fluid, is then injected into a chromatographic column under high pressure.

  • Patent number: 4918999
Abstract: A wood chip sampler is provided which is capable of extracting a repeatable and reliable sample of wood chips or similar particulate material from a product stream. The apparatus includes a sampling probe which has a slot which allows the product to enter the sampling probe. The probe is driven into the product stream with the slot in a six o'clock position, rotated through the twelve o'clock position to allow the product to enter the sampling probe, and then rotated to place the slot in a three o'clock position, and then retracted from the product stream into a housing. Once retracted, the probe is again rotated to place the slot on a six o'clock position, allowing the sampled material to be discharged by gravity into a hopper.
