  • Patent number: 4074225
Abstract: An emergency detection alarm and evacuation system adapted for use in a multi-storied building comprises a plurality of spatially distributed fire/smoke detectors and a plurality of exit signalling units respectively located adjacent the emergency exit doors on each building floor. A control panel on the lobby floor of the building includes lighted indicators which respectively indicate the actuation of particular fire/smoke detectors and lighted pushbutton switches operative to selectively actuate specific signalling units to thereby direct the building occupants to particular exit doors. Also disclosed is a closed circuit television system for visually monitoring the fire/smoke conditions in particular floor areas, for use in conjunction with said exit signalling units.

  • Patent number: 4072841
Abstract: A micro-switch having an actuating mechanism comprising a slide member which is movable longitudinally of itself in the switch casing and engages the electrical switching element, and a pivoted actuator which extends externally of the switch casing and comprises a length of wire which is pivoted in a hole in the switch casing and which has a bent end portion within the casing which is connected to the slide member so that pivoting of the actuator in one particular sense causes the slide member to move longitudinally to operate the switching element. Preferably, said end portion of the wire is connected to the inner end of the slide member by engaging an aperture or recess in the latter. The recess is conveniently a transverse channel formed in the side face of the slide member which is exposed on removal of a switch cover. That portion of the wire projecting from the other side of the casing can be bent through 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 4071963
Abstract: Ventilated footwear comprises an outer sole having a hollow portion forming an air pumping chamber at its heel portion, a plurality of ventilation holes provided on an inner sole within the range of the air pumping chamber, a cushioning material having cells therein to contain air being spread over an upper surface of the inner sole on the heel part thereof, projections projecting from the outer sole forming cavities between the outer sole and the inner sole, the cavities functioning as an air chamber, a plurality of ventilation holes provided on the inner sole and ducts longitudinally provided between the inner sole and the outer sole so as to communicate the air pumping chamber and the cavities.

  • Patent number: 4032991
Abstract: A fire, smoke and noxious fumes protective device comprises an air-tight envelope made of fire-resistant transparent sheet plastic material and encloses a pre-moistened porous face mask secured thereto. The device is rendered into the operative condition by opening the envelope which converts to a head cap for covering head and eyes of the wearer and extending the face mask out of the envelope whereby the mask extends downwardly from the cap over the nose and mouth of the wearer to afford protection against smoke and noxious fume inhalation.

  • Patent number: 4029042
Abstract: A differential pressure indicator includes an indicator element having a magnet affixed to the lower end thereof, the element being axially movable from a retracted non-indicating position to an extended indicating position. A spring-biased piston made of material which is not a permanent magnet but which is responsive to a magnetic field is axially movable in a fluid pressure chamber in response to changes in differential pressure. An increase in differential pressure causes the indicator element to move upwardly to a visual indicating position where its tip protrudes beyond the casing of the device.

  • Patent number: 4009051
Abstract: Solar power pack apparatus adaptable for powering emergency equipment at remote locations includes a solar cell array, a rechargeable battery pack, a long shelf-life primary battery pack and switching circuitry interconnecting these elements to provide upon demand immediate and continuous supply of electrical power over extended periods of time notwithstanding environmental conditions which would render unsuitable conventional emergency-use reserve power packs.

  • Patent number: 3951625
Abstract: Air conditioning apparatus ventilates room air with environmental air after the environmental air has been filtered, heated and humidified to appropriate levels. Environmental air is drawn into an intake duct, is passed successively through an air filter, an electric filament heater and is humidified by directing the air stream through a moving evaporator belt which is saturated with water from a water tank which is automatically controlled by a humidistat. The humidity level and temperature are automatically maintained by means of the humidistat and air temperature sensor.

  • Patent number: 3950700
Abstract: An electronic multi-mode vehicle performance control system selectively provides a digital display of odometer, tachometer, speedometer readings as well as other vehicle performance parameters while avoiding the disadvantages of mechanical systems which are subject to frequent breakdown. Provision is made to signal the operator of the vehicle when a preselected maximum vehicle velocity or engine rpm is being exceeded and furthermore to signal the operator when the engine rpm drops below a preset minimum level with the consequent danger of engine stall. Other vehicle parameters such as total elapsed engine revolutions is also displayed. Also provided are digital speed limit setting means for presetting the desirable vehicle and engine speed limits.
