Abstract: The tool for permitting a wrench to turn a harmonic balancer and crank shaft connected to the same. The tool employs a base which may be fixed to the harmonic balancer. The base includes an opening bored through the base to form a cavity. The cavity includes wall portions having a faceted surface and a threaded surface spaced from one another. The threaded member engages the threaded surface of the cavity and extends through the opening into engagement with the crank shaft.

Abstract: A convertible garment bag is fabricated with alternate carrying means to permit the bag to be transported by the luggage handle, a shoulder strap or a backpack harness, thereby enabling a traveler to include in a single bag both formal wear and casual wear for all occasions, and, allowing the traveler the option of carrying the bag as conventional travel luggage or as a mountaineering pack. The garment bag is constructed in the form of an elongated casing with a hook at one end to hand the casing and contained garments for temporary storage with minimal wrinkling of the contained garments. The casing has a perimeter closure device to enable the casing to fold into multiple segments that interfasten to form a unitary compact pack for convenient transport by one of the alternate carrying means.

Abstract: A control mechanism for use with a fluorescent lighting unit having at least first and second lamps utilizing a line switch. The mechanism includes an AC toggle which alternately interrupts and connects electrical power from a source to one of the first and second lamps, only. The toggle is responsive to the successive opening and closing of the line switch. A reset feature overrides the means for alternately interrupting and connecting power source to one of the pair of lamps by connecting power from the source to the second lamp. The reset feature is also responsive to the operation of the line switch.

Abstract: A puzzle apparatus utilizing a curved member having a convex outer surface and a concave inner surface. A plurality of interlocking pieces are employed, each possessing a concave surface conforming to the convex outer surface of the curved member. Each of the multiplicity of pieces includes a convex surface displaying indicia. The plurality of interlocking pieces are held to the curved outer surface to form a rendition.

Abstract: A toy utilizing a platform having first and second sides. A post extends the platform from one side to another and connects to an arm linked to a wheel. The wheel bears on the underside of the platform. The user is supported on the top side of the platform and uses weight shifting techniques to swing the board from side to side.

Abstract: An ON-OFF switch system for use between first and second conductors utilizing a first plate having first and second sides. The second side of the face plate includes an appendage which contacts an arm passing through a second plate. First and second plates slidingly engage one another to operate the arm. The arm is further connected to one of a pair of electrical contact members and is movable to operate contacts of the electrical members.

Abstract: A device for planting seed tape including a support structure which moves along the surface of the soil. The seed tape is advanced relative to the movement of the support structure and is cut repetitively at selected intervals. The severed seed tape is forced into the soil a predetermined distance. The seed tape employed with the device includes a relatively flat portion of material having first and second surfaces. The seed is held to the first surface of the portion of material. The seed tape further includes an opening through the same spaced from the seed held to the first surface of the portion of material.

Abstract: A moisturizing substrate for plant and animal tissue utilizing a mixture of cellulosic compound with carboxylic groups substituted on glucose units of cellulosic chain through an ether linkage. The cellulosic compound is admixed with a hydrated metallic salt and aerated water. The substrate may be mixed with soil or used in a layered relationship with a soil.

Abstract: An indirect luminaire mounted adjacent a surface for illuminating the same. The luminaire possesses a first reflector positioned such that the source of light lies intermediate the first reflector and the surface. The first reflector includes an edge portion to cut off light emanating from the source of light. A second reflector is positioned between the source of light and the surface. The second reflector reflects light only toward and along the surface.

Abstract: A road shoulder paving box, movable along a surface to be covered with paving material including carriage. The carriage rolls or skids along the surface to be paved and provides a receiver for accepting and holding paving material. The carriage also includes a container supported by the carriage having a chamber formed by a base and side wall portion. Such chamber includes an entrance and exit, as well as a movable partition for changing the volumetric capacity and the dimension of the chamber exit. The receiver and chamber are connected on the carriage of the paving apparatus such that paving material is transported or augered from the container to the receiver chamber.

Abstract: A window for a segmented edifice utilizing three frames, each having a plurality of openings through the same. The first two frames sandwiched the segmented edifice and are held in such configuration by a multiplicity of fasteners. A third frame having a cross member such as a screen is then fastened to the second frame to create a secure window.

Abstract: A disposable perspiration shield generally for use with an upper torso garment utilizing a first layer of adsorbent tissue which lies next to a second layer of adsorbent material. A third layer of adsorbent swab material is protected on one side by the second layer and on another side by a fourth layer of adsorbent material. A fifth layer of water repellent material is placed adjacent the swab protecting layer and surrounded by a sixth layer of sound adsorbing material. The first through sixth layers of material form a unit which is adherent with respect to the torso garment.

Abstract: A fingerboard or fret board for a stringed instrument utilizing a neck portion including a surface over which a plurality of strings are tensioned between a saddle of a bridge and a nut. Also, included are a series of straight frets which are aligned in a non-parallel pattern relative to one another to provide ach string with a different scale length.

Abstract: A compound rotary-reciprocal engine with multiple cylinders of a reciprocator component coupled to a positive displacement, rotary compressor-expander, with systems for coordinating the cycle timing of each cylinder with the timing of the rotary compressor-expander and with systems enabling the efficient operation of the coupled components as a unitary engine in a wide range of operating conditions.

Abstract: A device for detecting the level of heat generated by a lighting unit utilizing a sleeve possessing an end portion positioned adjacent to the exterior of the housing, an interior portion, and an exterior portion. A thermal protector is positioned at the interior portion of the sleeve at a selected distance from the exterior of the housing. Air is circulated between the exterior portion of the sleeve and the interior portion of the sleeve.

Abstract: A universal support member for a platform which utilizes an elongated member extending along an axis having a selected length. The elongated member includes a thickness dimension along the axis. A pair of slots are also constructed in the elongated member. Each slot includes a floor and a wall portion. The transverse dimension across the floor of each slot is equal to the thickness dimension of the elongated member. The centers of each of the floors of the slots lie equidistant from the center of the axis.

Abstract: A valve, particularly useful in a fire extinguisher, which utilizes a stem movable in a passageway having a head connected to the stem. The head includes a relatively hard member possessing a hard outer surface which fits snugly within the passageway. The head further includes a deformable portion adjacent the relatively hard surface of the relatively hard member. The relatively hard surface of the relatively hard portion contacts and scrapes the wall portion prior to sealing which is effected between the deformable portion and the wall of the passageway.

Abstract: A tossing ring which is particularly useful in the playing of having an annular body constructed of lightweight foam material. The annular body includes a plurality of flat surfaces on the outer surface of the annulus. Also, included in the annular body is an upper surface and a parallel bottom surface. A pair of side surfaces are also provided and are substantially perpendicular to the upper and lower surfaces. A pair of mitred surfaces interrupt the connection of the upper surface and the outer side surface, as well as the lower surface and the inner side surface. the annular body may be split into two portions and be combined with a gasket held in interposition with the split portions of the annular body. The flexible gasket may take the form of a flexible plate. Such flexible plate may be fixed between the split sections of the annular body or fixed to the whole annular body. An insert having a depending side portion may also be provided to fix to inside surface of the annular body.

Abstract: An anatomic fracture brace mechanism for knee braces to provide lateral restraint and delimited supportive motion of the knee joint permitting weight bearing ambulation of the patient during healing of leg fractures or other traumas, a fracture brace being constructed with a brace mechanism utilizing an asymmetrical four-bar, cross-linkage to follow, as closely as mechanically practical, the polycentric motion of the human knee.
