    Abstract: A method for the treatment of tobacco stems which comprises providing the tobacco stems in the uncut condition with a moisture content ranging from 15 to 70% relative to the dry weight of the tobacco stems, performing at least one first cut of said tobacco stems in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis thereof, conditioning the resultingly cut tobacco stems, and performing more than one second cut of said tobacco stems in a direction parallel to said longitudinal axis, wherein the respective longitudinal planes containing said first and said second cuts reside in substantially perpendicular relation to each other. The resulting tobacco stem sections exhibit improved uniformity of length and thickness, and minimal fiber destruction, and have improved expansion capacity.

    Abstract: An apparatus for collecting copy sheets in facially reversed or overturned relation with respect to their discharge from a copying machine includes a guide member disposed proximate the discharge port of the machine. The guide member comprises a substantially planar guide portion inclined at a predetermined angle relative to the direction of copy sheet discharge from the machine, and a deflecting portion unitarily extending from the guide portion at a predetermined angle with respect thereto. The apparatus further includes a receiving tray spaced below the discharge port and toward which discharged copy sheets are deflected by contact with the guide and deflecting portions of the guide member for collection in overturned or face reversed orientation.

    Abstract: A method for forming a negative image comprising imagewise exposing a photographic material to provide exposed areas and unexposed areas, said material comprising, on a support, (1) an emulsion layer containing a light-sensitive silver halide, (2) unsensitized silver halide metallic salt grains which are more soluble in a developer than the light sensitive silver halide, and (3) nuclei for physical development, processing said material in the presence of a reducing agent and a solvent for said grains with said developer containing a substance which renders said grains less soluble by adsorbing thereto, said developer rendering said grains in said exposed areas and not in said unexposed areas soluble in said solvent, whereby metal ions are released and deposited on said nuclei.

The gel is particularly suitable as a means for releasably securing an electrode to the skin as, for example, when taking an EEG or EKG.
