Abstract: An immobilized aminoacylase preparation is obtained by adsorbing tannin on a water-insoluble, hydrophilic carrier to give a water-insoluble tannin preparation, adsorbing aminoacylase on the tannin preparation to give a water-insoluble tannin-aminoacylase preparation, and then binding ferric or ferrous ion thereto. The immobilized preparation obtained above sustains a high rate of enzymatic activity for a long period of time when used in an enzymatic reaction thereof with N-acyl-DL-amino acids.
Abstract: The invention provides a pedometer device of electronic form which may be accommodated in a wrist watch housing, if desired within an electronic wrist watch together with the watch parts. A visual display is produced by an electronic processor responsive to a read only memory, settable to provide a unit distance reference, and counter fed from a motion sensitive modulator. The ROM and counter can be arranged such that no multiplier device is required. The modulator may be in the form of a mass-loaded wire of spring-quality metal projecting into a surrounding contact cylinder. This arrangement gives a construction compact enough for housing within the watch case.

Abstract: Means to damp the transmission of gas vibration aft of the tailpipe from the high velocity exhaust gas to the relatively slow moving airstream surrounding the said tailpipe of a jet engine wherein a metallic fringe, due to the low resonant characteristics of slack fine wire, acts as a vibration damper when externally affixed and surrounding the terminus of the said tailpipe, with an additional vibration impediment comprising a miniature airfoil surrounding the said terminus while functioning as an air-pressure reducer wherein a low air-pressure area is interposed between the said exhaust gas and the said airstream.
Abstract: A camera support for electronic-flash proximity photography is formed from a substantially flat support having openings therethrough for the camera lens, the flash and for viewing the object to be photographed. The underside of the support carries three pivotally mounted extendible legs which in their extended position mount the camera above the object to be photographed, the ends of the legs being positioned in such a manner relatively to the lens opening as to effectively form two sides of a framing rectangle; in their retracted position these legs are attached to the underside of the support in a triangular manner about the lens opening. The support also preferably includes a light diffuser formed in the opening coincident with the flash.
Abstract: Racemic or optically active .alpha.-(2,3,4-trimethoxyphenethylaminomethyl)-2-hydroxybenzylalcohol [I] may be prepared by condensing 2,3,4-trimethoxyphenethylamine with 2-benzyloxyphenylglyoxal or its hydrate, reducing the resultant .alpha.(2,3,4-tri-methoxyphenethylimino)-2-benzyloxyacetophenone to give .alpha.(2,3,4-trimethoxyphenethylaminomethyl)-2-benzyloxybenzylalcohol, if required, resolving the 2-benzyloxybenzylalcohol derivative into each of its optically active enantiomers, and subjecting the racemic modification or optically active enantiomer of said 2-benzyloxybenzylalcohol derivative to catalytic hydrogenation. The compound [I] and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are useful as anti-diabetic agents. They may be also used in the treatment of thrombosis.
Abstract: A drum cleaning apparatus for an electrophotographic copying machine includes a toner image forming drum rotatable about a horizontal axis, a blade for scraping off toner particles deposited on the cylindrical outer surface of the drum, an inclined toner particle guide plate having an upper edge bearing on the outer surface of the drum upstream of the scraping blade as viewed in the rotating direction of the drum and a lower edge positioned at an opening of a toner collecting container, a holding structure for supporting the toner guide plate and mounted swingably on a shaft with play, the shaft extending in parallel with the axis of said drum. Feeble and periodical shocks are applied to the toner guide plate by way of the supporting shaft thereby to promote the sliding down of the toner particles on and along the guide plate into the collecting container to prevent accumulation of the particles on the plate.
Abstract: A photo-sensitive screen for producing an electrostatic latent image of an original to be copied is of multi-layer structure having an apertured region in which fine apertures are formed in uniform distribution and including a photo-conductive insulative layer, an electrically conductive substrate, an insulating layer and an electrically conductive layer superposed upon one another in this order, wherein a solid region having no apertures is formed outside of the apertured region for allowing an electrode to be secured thereon in electrical contact with the electrically conductive layer. The electrode serves for applying a bias voltage to the electrically conductive layer for establishing electric field of a predetermined profile between the conductive substrate and the conductive layer across the interposed insulating layer.

Abstract: A method of making a cigarette having a core of one grade of tobacco and at least one substantially circumferential wrapping of a second grade of tobacco which comprises applying to a moving base or conveyor a first stream of the core tobacco and a pair of second streams of the wrapping material, one stream of wrapping material being on either side of the first stream. The three streams are then deposited onto a moving support which is at an angle to the base such that one stream of wrapping material is deposited upstream of the core material which, in turn, is deposited upstream of the other stream of wrapping material. The composite layer thus formed is then formed into a tobacco cord in a known manner. The latter is then formed into cigarettes in the usual way.A modification of known cigarette-making machines is described which is particularly adapted for carrying out this method.
