  • Patent number: 5136405
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes a first twisted nematic liquid crystal cell and an optically anisotropic material sandwiched between two polarizers. A second twisted nematic liquid crystal cell or polymer film serves as the optically anisotropic material. The optically anisotropic material may be disposed on one or both sides of the first twisted nematic liquid crystal. The optically anisotropic material compensates for the elliptical polarization of the light passing through the liquid crystal cell so that the device transmits white light in the OFF state and appears black in the ON state.

  • Patent number: 5130960
Abstract: An electronic device, in a preferred embodiment an electronic watch, including a power generating device, a secondary power source for storing generated electric energy fed from the power generating device and serving as the power source for the electronic device, a first boosting circuit for stepping up the voltage of the secondary power source, a second boosting circuit, and a capacitor connected to the output of the first boosting circuit and charged through the output of the first boosting circuit, for stepping up the voltage of the capacitor. A voltage level converter converts a control signal based on the first boosting circuit output voltage to a control signal based on the second boosting circuit output to at least in part control the operation of the first boosting circuit. In this manner, the boosting circuits control the operation of the device such that when the voltage lever is low or the voltage level reaches a certain point the device does not shut down, but rather maintains normal operation.

  • Patent number: 5129750
Abstract: A printer includes a clam shell mechanism having a frame rotatably mounted on a base. A platen is mounted on the frame. A print head for acting in cooperation with the platen is mounted on the base. A locking lever mounted on the base cooperates with a shaft mounted on the first frame for selectively maintaining the first frame in a closed position. A lock control member switches the locking means between maintaining the first frame in the closed position and allowing the first frame to rotate to an open position wherein the platen is displaced from the print head.

  • Patent number: 5128858
Abstract: A controller for controlling feeding of paper in a printer in response to a plurality of feed control commands. The printer includes a detector for detecting the presence or absence of paper in the printer wherein a predetermined region remains on the paper at a point in time when the output of the detector switches from an indication of paper presence to an indication of paper absence. The printing control calculates an accumulated value of the paper feed amounts specified by the plurality of paper feed control commands when the commands are successively given. The printing control then predetermines the presence or absence of the printable region based upon an amount corresponding to the printable region and the accumulated value.

  • Patent number: 5127302
Abstract: A device for reading sound waveform data has a waveform ROM for storing waveform data represented as an amplitude in a time series. Sound waveform data is repeatedly read from the waveform ROM. The reading of a single waveform corresponds to a single period. A scale ROM stores a plurality of frequency dividing ratios. A programmable counter divides a signal having a predetermined frequency in correspondence with a frequency dividing ratio output by the scale ROM and outputing a clock pulse. A counter counts the clock pulses and indicates the addresses of the waveform ROM. The scale ROM changes the frequency dividing ratio data during an arbitrary divided period of intervals in the period for reading the waveform data. During the period for reading the waveform by the counters, the sound waveform readout has a single frequency and accordingly a single period. The waveform reading period is devided into m number of intervals.

  • Patent number: 5127750
Abstract: A refillable ink ribbon cartridge including an adapter element which can be permanently inserted in a typewriter and receive a replaceable ink ribbon. The adapter includes a ribbon drive mechanism for advancing the ink ribbon cassette. The adapter includes a body portion and two extending legs and centering pins at the free ends and a ribbon tensioning lever. The cassette is formed with a body portion and two protruding legs with guiding elements to guide the ribbon across the free end of the legs. A drive wheel is rotatably mounted on a spring loaded arm to pull the ribbon through the cartridge, the arm is rotatable about a drive pin. Upon insertion of the refill cassette into the adapter, the two systems align and interact so that the ribbon is guided by the associated protruding legs and guiding elements to run smoothly through the cartridge.

  • Patent number: 5126182
Abstract: A drapable, water vapor permeable, wind and water resistant composite fabric including a fabric substrate, a layer of a foamed water vapor porous adhesive in the surface area of one side of the fabric substrate and a layer or fabric material suitable for exposed use on the other is provided. The fabric material is preferably a layer of flocked fibers. The cellular structure of the foamed adhesive permits water vapor to pass through, however, wind and liquid water is inhibited from passing through the foam barrier. The foamed adhesive is inhibited from penetrating deeply into the fabric substrate during manufacture by an adhesive barrier material on the fabric which may be substantially removed during later processing. The resultant fabric is drapable and particularly suited for use in apparel, replacing two or more single purpose fabric layers within one multipurpose fabric layer.
