  • Patent number: 5044205
Abstract: A method for the monitoring of deformation of components with light waveguides which are connected securely to the component at least over part of the length of the latter and are connected to a measuring apparatus with which the transmitting capacity of the light waveguide and the transit time and/or the damping of the light pulses sent through the light waveguides are continuously or intermittently monitored. The light waveguides are prestressed such that they remain in tension at all levels of deformation expected.

  • Patent number: 5040358
Abstract: In a vertical and helical banding machine having a rotary table, a carriage mounted on a mast secured to a stand is driven between upper and lower positions and has a delivery roller rotatable about a vertically stationary axis for passing the banding film to helically wrap or band the load. The carriage includes a support for changing the direction of banding film from a horizontal to a veritcal position as the film is delivered to the delivery roll. A prestretching mechanism is provided for prestretching the film prior to delivery to the carriage. The mechanism includes a horizontal vertically movable bearing roller carrying the film reel and a horizontal support roller parallel to the bearing roller and positioned beneath the film reel and supporting same whereby the lower horizontal generatrix between the reel of film and the support roller forms a constant reference to control the speed of film being unwound from the reel and in conjunction therewith acts as a prestretching mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5040359
Abstract: In a banding machine of the fixed-table and pivoting reel of film type, a mechanism is provided for deviating and vertically offsetting the downstream, delivered section of the band of film which is actuated during banding, from a state in which deviation and offset are minimal to a condition where the band of film applied to the load is off-set vertically with respect to the reel of film whereby wrinkling of the film is avoided at the lowermost portion of the load.

  • Patent number: 5037348
Abstract: A therepeutic brassiere for supporting breast implants includes breast receiving cups. Each of the cups is formed from a section of body engaging fabric joined together at a common seam. A chest encircling band is joined to the lower marginal edges of the cups for affixing the brassiere to the chest of a wearer. An elastic strip of material, attached to both the upper marginal edges of the cups and to the chest encircling band prevents movement or distortion of the breast implants.

  • Patent number: 5035610
Abstract: An internal heat exchange tube for cooling work within an industrial furnace is positioned to extend within the furnace and is closed at its axial end which is inside the furnace. Within the tube is an open ended, thin wall inner tube formed in the shape of a helical coil. • Patent number: 5031752
Abstract: A chain scraper conveyor has a conveyor line of linked segments so as to be curvable. A scraper chain runs in a conveying channel through the conveyor line. The scraper chain turns around chain drums in machine frames at the ends of the line, these being drivable to circulate the scraper chain and/or longitudinally adjustable to tension it. The conveyor has wheels so as to be bodily movable, e.g. by an integral caterpillar-track drive at one end, and for this reason includes a flexible tension element, preferably a round-link chain, that extends along the conveyor line under the channel and is fixed at its ends. The tension chain has lateral freedom relative to the segments, limited by side abutments. At curves (A, B) it can take up a substantially chordal relation to the center line of the conveyor so as to reduce stress on the scraper chain and the consequent tendency of the line to straighten out when being driven.

  • Patent number: 5025123
Abstract: A modular type replaceable heating unit with a downwardly facing heating ring for use in an apparatus for sealing a flat lid with a lower layer of heat bondable material onto the upper, generally flat surface of a flange extending around the periphery of an access opening in a container. The apparatus moves the heating unit between first and second positions. The apparatus includes a generally fixed high frequency power supply for energizing the heating ring, connecting the high frequency power supply to the heating ring only while the heating unit is moving between the first and second positions. The ring is forced against the lid as the power supply is energized and is released from the lid after the power supply has been de-energized. Preferably the ring is an inductor. A plurality of these heating units is carried by a turret to define individual heating stations on the turret which stations rotate to selectively energize the individual heating units.

Abstract: A vent ridge assembly for a metal roof includes a pair of adjacent roof sections spaced from one another. Each of the roof sections is constructed of a roof substrate, a batten overlying and extending along a longitudinal edge of the substrate and one or more roofing panels overlying the roof substrate and spaced from the batten. A plate overlying the batten has one longitudinal edge extending along the length of the batten and a second opposing longitudinal edge overlying a roofing panel. A ridge cap overlies the panels of the adjacent roof sections and has first and second coupling flanges receiving the second opposing longitudinal edges of the plates. A corrugated sheet is disposed between the plate and the batten of each roof section for venting air and water vapor from the beneath the roof.

  • Patent number: 5022352
Abstract: An improved fuel and air admixture burner for water heating and/or space heating appliances comprises concentrically arranged inner and outer sheet metal tubes closed at their top ends and the inner tube open at its bottom end through which a combustible fuel and air admixture is adapted to be introduced into the burner. The inner and outer tubes are specially configured to supply a balanced distribution of the combustible fuel and air admixture to the outer surface of the burner while allowing the heating apparatus to operate quietly. Perforations varying in size are distributed over a top zone, a middle zone, and a bottom zone of the inner tube, with the top and bottom zones containing larger perforations and the middle zone containing smaller perforations. The bottom zone is axially longer than the middle zone which in turn is axially longer than the top zone.

  • Patent number: 5016427
Abstract: The invention provides for a process for feeding packaging film to a wrapping machine. The film is fed to an upstream and downstream main rollers defining between them a passage. As the film is fed towards the rollers, upstream and downstream guide rollers are located at positions nearest the entry and exit sides of the passage. Once the film is fed through the passage, the guide rollers move in opposite directions away from the passage.

  • Patent number: 5017185
Abstract: A permanent magnetic arrangement for therapeutic purposes, which comprises one or several rubber-type flexible magnetic foils or strips in which highly coercive permanent magnet particles are embedded in a tube-shape during the therapeutic treatment. The magnetic foils or strips are magnetized perpendicularly to their surface, whereby their magnetic field lines pass through the body section enclosed by the magnetic foil or foil pieces, in cross-wise and/or longitudinal direction. The magnetic foil or foil pieces are positioned in a textile fabric strip, which is provided on its open ends with a fastening mechanism, preferably a Velcro fastener in the form of a bandage. In order to increase the magnetic field line density, the magnetic foils or foil pieces or strips are positioned in layers one over the other, whereby in each case north poles of one foil are opposite south poles of the adjacent foil.

  • Patent number: 5015355
Abstract: A corrosion measuring cell for establishing the start of corrosion and/or for measuring the degree of corrosion of structural or reinforcing steel, which is embedded in a concrete structural part, has a corrosion-resistant cathode electrode, and several ordinary steel anode electrodes spaced from one another at different distances from the external surface of the concrete structural part. The anode electrodes are each connected to a cathode electrode through a current-measuring device which measures current due to corrosion at the anodes in order to establish the temporal course of carbonatization or chloridization taking place in the concrete. The connections may be switched between the measuring device and a polarizing device which polarizes the anode electrode in such a manner that the corrosion current, and thus the corrosion of the anode electrode, stops when desired to avoid damage to the concrete.
