  • Patent number: 5152417
Abstract: An especially configured, ringless, container-lid design is disclosed having improved sealing characteristics applicable to paint containers for the consuming public. The rim portion of the container is provided with a tapered, especially shaped wall section terminating in a curled bead which is received in a sealing groove in the lid. The container rim section is rigidized by a single protrusion in the form of a stiffening groove to prevent vertical collapse of the container. The lid has an inverted U-shaped groove sealingly engaging the container's bead. Extending from the inner wall segment of the U-shaped groove in the lid is a frusto conical wall segment extending radially-inwardly and vertically-upwardly to a flat, annular, radially-inwardly extending surface which in turn terminates in a downwardly-extruding frusto conical surface so that a raised collecting basin is formed in the lid.

  • Patent number: 5141589
Abstract: A system for inflating and deflating pneumatic tires of a vehicle through pneumatically actuated tire isolating valves is disclosed which isolates air under pressure in the tires from the system and which utilizes electronically controlled valves for achieving opening of the tire isolating alves and inflating, deflating or checking the pressure. The system is improved by incorporation of a dump valve at each tire which permits rapid deflation of the tire pressure upon demand. The dump valve is tire and system pressure responsive and is integrated into the system in a manner to be responsive to any number of deflated tire pressures. The dump valve comprises a movable piston with two positions wherein the piston is releasably held in the second position by a mechanical detent until a suitable pressure differential occurs across the axial surfaces of the piston to cause the piston to be released from the detent and to move back to the first position.

  • Patent number: 5138748
Abstract: A closure for closing the folded open end of a bag comprises a tri-laminate of thin relatively rigid plastic material having planar opposite sides and an edge therebetween. The closure is provided with an opening through the opposite sides of the tri-laminate and an entrance passage to the opening from the edge and which entrance passage has a non-linear profile in the direction between the opposite sides of the tri-laminate. The closed end of a bag is introduced into the opening through the entrance passage which distorts the folded end of the bag to the non-linear profile, thereby frictionally holding the closure on the bag and perpendicular to the crease line of the fold.

  • Patent number: 5138990
Abstract: An improved cast cylinder head for a high performance internal combustion engine is provided by an especially configured quench surface from which a contoured combustion chamber extends having a metal mass buildup shrouding the exhaust gases through the exhaust valve seat. A metal mass buildup configuration is also provided about the intake valve seat which acts in conjunction with an especially configured and proportioned valve intake passage to draw the fuel-air mixture into the combustion chamber in an unshrouded, helical flow pattern. The intake passageway configuration is such that a rich fuel-air mixture is drawn through the intake valve seat at a portion thereof remote from said exhaust valve seat while a lean fuel-air mixture exits the intake valve seat adjacent the exhaust valve seat. Positioning the fuel-air mixture in such a manner in combination with the unshrouded metal mass buildup minimizes short-circuiting of the fuel through the exhaust valve seat in a valve overlap condition.

  • Patent number: 5137616
Abstract: A system for use in sensing the oxygen content of an industrial furnace gas typically containing hydrocarbons or hydrogen is disclosed. The system utilizes a conventional automotive EGR oxygen sensor probe positioned in an especially configured housing employing downstream flow regulating means in combination with an orificing plate in the housing to provide uniform distribution of the endothermic gas at a low temperature about the sensor to insure accurate sensor readings with minimal carbon deposition. The electrical contacts at the oxygen sensor's inner and outer electrolyte surfaces are periodically switched to an electrical power supply to cause current to flow through and heat the electrolyte to elevated temperatures while air is flowed over the electrolyte's surfaces to achieve burn out of any carbon deposits and restore the life of the oxygen sensor probe.
