  • Patent number: 5127827
Abstract: An improved industrial furnace employing a new and unique heat transfer arrangement is disclosed. The furnace is a closed end cylindrical chamber with a circular, concentrically positioned plate dividing one side of the furnace into a fan chamber containing a fan and the other side of the furnace into a heat treat chamber containing the work. The plate has a central under-pressure opening and its outer circular edge is spaced from the cylindrical wall to define an annular space which is non-orificing. Fan rotation in the fan chamber produces an annulus of wind mass swirling at high circumferential speed which axially travels through the non-orificing space towards the closed end of the heat treat chamber at slow speed. Heating elements extend through the non-orificing space into the heat transfer chamber and are constantly impinged by the swirling annulus wind mass to effect good heat transfer therewith.

  • Patent number: 5125209
Abstract: A method for unwinding packaging film is provided for a carriage which includes a stand, a supporting shaft for a film reel and a roller device, and the carriage is intended to be incorporated in a packaging machine for wrapping loads. Plastic film is removed from a roll and is longitudinally stretched between two rollers, has its width reduced and longitudinal creases put into it, and is associated with the load to be wrapped. Between the stretching rollers and end film unwinding roller, the film passes through a slit of a creasing member which reduces the width of the film by forming longitudinally extending creases along its width. The overall width reduction of the film is controlled by controlling the longitudinal angle of the slit relative to the axis of the stretch and unwinding rollers.

  • Patent number: 5126946
Abstract: A system for creating a control signal having a value indicative of the position of the lateral edge of a moving web wherein the system creates a succession of ultrasonic pulses from a transmitter, each of the pulses being created at a known transmit time in response to a transmit signal with the pulses each having a number of oscillations defining a pulse envelope having a pulse start portion. The system directs the ultrasonic pulses toward an ultrasonic receiver along a selected path whereby the position of the lateral edge of the web in the path determines the energy of the pulse as it is received by the receiver and converts the received pulse into an electronic signal having an amplitude determined by the energy of the received pulse. The receiver is spaced from the transmitter a predetermined distance causing the pulses to be received by the receiver at a given time after the transmit signals for a given ambient temperature.

  • Patent number: 5123260
Abstract: An ice maker having an auger which rotates within a cylindrical body on the inner surface of which ice crystals are formed to scrape the crystals off the surface and advance them upwardly in to the extruding passage of an extruding head above the auger to form hard bodies of ice which are broken into pieces and stored in a reservoir surrounding the head. A thrust bearing disposed between the head and a portion of the auger shaft extending above the head is made up of two thin disks of different low friction materials both of which are hygroscopic. The bearing assembly operates in the moist atmosphere of the housing so that the hygroscopic elements absorb moisture which produces dimensional changes in the disks to compensate for material lost by frictional wear.

  • Patent number: 5119395
Abstract: An industrial electrical, vacuum furnace for ion processing of work is provided with an improved feed-through interlock and insulator arrangement. A sealed interlock chamber on the furnace door is in fluid communication with the furnace's heat treat chamber. A bellows outside of the interlock chamber is in fluid communication therewith. When a vacuum is drawn in the heat treat chamber, the bellows distends into a collapsed position to provide a firmly clamped electrical connection with the feed-through which extends through the door into the interlock chamber. The feed-through is thus pinned by the bellows at one end and a V-shaped pulley guide arrangement within the furnace controls thermal distortion of the feed-through.

  • Patent number: 5116221
Abstract: An internal heat exchange tube for cooling work within an industrial furnace is positioned to extend within the furnace and is closed at its axial end which is inside the furnace. Within the tube is an open ended, thin wall inner tube formed in the shape of a helical coil. • Patent number: 5112213
Abstract: A non-return valve for an injection molding machine is provided which includes a conventional tip member threaded into the end of a plasticating screw and carrying therewith an annular valve seat member. An annular check ring receives the tip member. Tang protuberances axially extend from the check ring to rotably engage the retainer end of the tip member. This causes the check ring to couple with the tip member during screw rotation to minimize valve wear while permitting the check ring to axially move relative to the tip member for effecting valve closure by pressure differentials in the normal manner. A ramp surface is provided on the tang protuberances which engages a drive surface on the retainer end of the tip/stud member upon reverse rotation of the screw through a predetermined rotational angle or for a set time to positively close the valve prior to injection.

  • Patent number: 5103995
Abstract: An especially configured, ringless, container-lid design is disclosed having improved sealing characteristics applicable to paint containers for the consuming public. The rim portion of the container is provided with a tapered, especially shaped wall section terminating in a circular bead which is received in a sealing groove in the lid. The rim section is rigidized by a single protrusion in the form of a stiffening groove to prevent vertical collapse of the container. The lid has an inverted U-shaped groove sealingly engaging the container's bead. The outer wall of the U-shaped groove has a plurality of long length and short length sections. The long length sections are designed to contact the stiffening groove in the event inadvertent container deforming forces are applied to seal the lid while the short length sections of the lid assure pry points for lid removal.
