  • Patent number: 5007769
Abstract: A guide base has at its corners, bolted on transition pieces, each having an outwardly projecting nose with a downwardly sloping bottom surface. A guide post connectable to the guide base has a cavity of a shape corresponding to the shape of the nose. During installation of the guide post, the guide post is suspended on a guide wire to the vicinity of the guide base and is then moved laterally toward the base to cause the nose to enter the cavity. A surface of the cavity cooperates with the nose to cause the guide post to be pulled laterally into firm engagement against the transition piece when the guide wire is pulled upwardly. A locking member can be inserted through the so mounted guide post to lock the post to the transition piece.

  • Patent number: 4986568
Abstract: A suspension with variable damping or variable shock absorbing which permits varying the damping as a function of various parameters such as the speed, the height, or steering angle of the wheels. An anti-inclination or stabilizer bar is connected to the suspension arms of the wheels and to the detector for detecting the height of the front axles. The detector provides an electrical signal corresponding to the angle of rotation of the center of the stabilizer bar to an electronic calculator. When the signal exceeds a predetermined threshold value, the calculator transmits information to actuators to change the suspension damping or stiffness. The detector includes a casing mounted on the chassis and having a lever arm driven in rotation by a linkage connected to a lever rigidly attached to the center of the stabilizer bar.

  • Patent number: 4962606
Abstract: A safety mechanism in which a striker on the hammer can hit the firing pin to discharge the firearm only when the trigger is intentionally pulled and the pull on the trigger is maintained. The striker can move on the hammer and is pushed to the firing position by a weak spring. A safety arm associated with the trigger, pushes the striker to a mis-aligned position in which it cannot hit the firing pin. If the hammer is released accidently by inertial forces, such as dropping or bumping the firearm, the safety arm engages and mis-aligns the striker as the hammer falls, before the striker arrives at the firing pin. Pulling the trigger withdraws the safety arm, but the pull must be maintained until the hammer falls, in order to discharge the firearm.

  • Patent number: 4903436
Abstract: A guide arrangement for a sliding window of a vehicle includes a generally "U" shaped guide rail secured in a frame of the window opening and a runner slidable in said guide rail and which straddles and is fixed to the an edge of the window. The runner has a thin web disposed between the outer surface of the window and an outer leg of the guide rail in which the runner slides, so that the outside surface of the window is almost flush with the outer surface of the vehicle. A weatherstrip like seal mounted on the frame of the window opening engages the window.

  • Patent number: 4815274
Abstract: An exhaust system for a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine has a tailpipe (13) which is divided by a partitioning wall or walls (14,15) into separate channels extending at least part-way of the tailpipe from its inlet end and with which the outlets of the primary exhaust channels in the manifold are separately connected. The structure of the exhaust system enables the exhaust system to be easily packaged within the engine compartment of a car, while enabling the lengths of the exhaust channels to be selected to enable advantage to be taken of the resonant phenomena for optimization of the engine torque and other engine characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4790046
Abstract: A windshield wiper device with a non-circular sweeping motion, comprises an arm carrying a blade which is caused to oscillate alternately about an axis of rotation by a drive mechanism, combined with a movement of translation such that the windshield wiper blade describes a first path during an outward stage and a second path which differs from the first during a return stage. The drive mechanism is designed to cause the longitudinal ends of the windshield wiper blade and the windshield wiper blade itself to describe paths having the shape of a curved and flattened figure 8 whose concave area faces the axis of rotation with the point of intersection of the lobes of the flattened 8 being disposed substantially in the axis of the vehicle, whereas the ends of the lobes are tangential to the angular end positions of the blade.

  • Patent number: 4708294
Abstract: The floor of a poultry rearing area is conditioned for reuse for raising a new batch of chicks, by revitalizing the litter and droppings on the floor of the area. This a accomplished by scraping the litter from the floor with an elongated blade, so that the litter is lifted upwardly into the path of a power driven rotatary pulverizer, which pulverizes the litter and droppings, and permits the so conditioned litter to fall back onto the floor for immediate reuse. The scraper blade is maintained at or slightly above the level of the floor, as the litter is scraped, to avoid damage to the floor.

  • Patent number: 4706483
Abstract: In accordance with the invention, a wheel (16) is used as the burnishing wheel for a helical thread, the periphery of which wheel has a profile whose shape matches that of the thread to be surfaced. The wheel (16) is mounted such that it rotates freely about an axis which is inclined with respect to the axis of the screw (10) which is caused to rotate about its own axis. The wheel (16) is applied in a resilient manner to the screw (10) by means of a compression spring (56) which pushes the pivoting support (18) of the wheel (16) in the direction of the screw (10). The carriage (20) on which the support (18) is pivotably mounted is freely displaceable in translation parallel to the axis of the screw (10) on a rail (22). The invention may be used for finishing by means of burnishing of a helical thread using an automatic repetitive cycle comprising a predetermined number of passes of a burnishing wheel along the thread.

  • Patent number: 4690406
Abstract: A variable balance racket has a weight moveable from an inactive or rest position near the grip of the handle to an active position adjacent the head of the racket to increase the striking force of the head. The weight can be moved to the active position and held in this active position by a retainer, against the action of an elastic element which returns the weight to the rest position. The weight is released in response to the centrifugal force of the swing of the racket so it is automatically returned to the rest position before the next swing. This arrangement enables the player to move the weight to the active position prior to a serve or anticipated smash, while returning the weight to the rest position after such a swing for normal play or repositioning in the active position by the player.

  • Patent number: 4686501
Abstract: An electromagnetic actuator comprises two armatures which are relatively movable to define a stroke and which form a main magnetic circuit the reluctance of which is variable between the ends of the stroke. A secondary magnetic circuit is formed between the armatures and its reluctance is also variable between the ends of the stroke, the variation being different to that of the first circuit to allow the relationship between the force of the actuator and the stroke position to be trailored to suit different requirements.
