  • Patent number: 4584044
Abstract: This invention concerns treatment of the heat-fusible materials by use of a fusing agent, according to which a fusing agent capable of producing red hot "embers" by combustion is applied to the surface of a worked object such as a sign formed from a heat-fusible material and worked at a construction site or to the area to be newly worked, and then said fusing agent is ignited and burned so that the combustion heat of the resultantly produced "embers" is directly conducted to the material to be worked to thereby remove the fused material from the worked area or fuse and affix the material to the working area.

  • Patent number: 4584391
Abstract: A novel and efficient method is proposed for the preparation of isosorbide-5-nitrate which is a promising medicinal compound for several diseases due to disorder in heart. The method comprises direct nitration of isosorbide with a concentrated nitric acid in a specific reaction medium containing an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, e.g. benzene, in addition to conventional acetic acid and acetic anhydride. After neutralization of the reaction mixture and removal of the dinitrate as a byproduct therefrom, the reaction mixture is admixed with an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide so that a sodium salt of isosorbide-5-nitrate is precipitated in the form of a hydrate, which is a novel compound not known in the prior art. This hydrate sodium salt is then decomposed with an acid to give the desired isosorbide-5-nitrate in a high yield.

  • Patent number: 4580531
Abstract: In a process and apparatus for regulating the temperature of coolant in an internal combustion engine, a three way valve controls the relative quantity of coolant flowing through a radiator, and a by-pass line bypassing the radiator. The valve responds both to the absolute temperatures of the coolant in the by-pass line leaving the engine and the line leaving the radiator to adjust the relative flow through the lines. A control system monitors the temperature of the coolant leaving and entering the engine and controls the pump and fan speeds in the normal manner.

  • Patent number: 4572254
Abstract: A lock system which prevents the mixing of different kinds of oil at a gasoline tank comprises: locks for different kinds of oils provided on each of couplings constituting oil filler ports of underground tanks of the gasoline stand and each of tank base valves of a tank truck, and keys separately provided for unlocking the locks for the different kinds of oil, wherein only the lock on the couplings of the oil filler ports which accepts a selected key which unlocks the corresponding tank base valve of the tank truck can be unlocked. When one of the tank base valves is opened and an oil filler hose is connected to the oil filler port of one of the underground tanks, only the oil filler port of the underground tank containing the same kind of oil as that in the corresponding tank of the tank truck can be opened, thereby ensuring that the same kind of oil is reliably poured into the underground tank from the tank truck.

  • Patent number: 4568545
Abstract: The invention discloses that the tissues of earthworms contain fibrinolytically or thrombolytically active ingredients which can be extracted and purified by a suitable sequence of extraction and purification procedures into the individual active ingredients including six novel proteases named F-O-HM-45, F-I-1-HM-54, F-I-2-HM-15, F-II-HM-64, F-III-1-HM-27 and F-III-2-HM-89. The chromatographic fractionation of the earthworm extract with an aqueous extractant gives five active fractions, the first four of which contain each one of the first mentioned four proteases and the last of which contains the last mentioned two proteases. The disclosure includes description of the suitable purification methods for the proteases as well as the physico-chemical identification data thereof. Various thrombolytic medicament forms prepared with the novel proteases as the effective ingredient are described together with the results of the clinical tests carried out by the oral administration of the novel proteases.

  • Patent number: 4565027
Abstract: This invention relates to a basket for catching fish and the like while being sunk into the sea, which is mainly composed of a collapsible basket member consisting of a net portion stretched around movable frame members, such that the unfolded basket is used for alluring and catching fish and the like and the volume will be reduced by folding it when not used for convenience of conveyance and storage. Stretching strings are disposed between an inner entrance frame for widening the inner end of an exit checking portion which is an opening for fish to the inside of the basket and the base ring, such that due to the tension of the net portion which incorporates the opening and the tension of the stretching strings, the exit checking portion is defined with the inner entrance frame when the basket is unfolded and when the basket is folded the inner entrance frame is kept in parallel with the folded movable frame members while the tension of the net portion of the opening is retained.

  • Patent number: 4564471
Abstract: The invention provides a novel and efficient method for the elimination of protecting groups, e.g. benzyloxycarbonyl group, from a protected amino acid, peptide or derivative thereof having at least one functional group protected by a protecting group, e.g. a lower alkyl ester of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-.alpha.-L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine by catalytic hydrogen reduction to produce free amino acid, peptide or derivative thereof. In contrast to the conventional procedures in which the reaction is carried out in a solvent dissolving both the starting compound and the product compound or a solvent dissolving the starting compound but not dissolving the product compound, the inventive method utilizes a binary two-phase reaction medium composed of water and an organic solvent not freely miscible with water such as toluene.

Abstract: Halogen glass is treated, while heated above its fusion temperature, with carbon disulphide. The resulting halogen glass is essentially free of parasitic absorption bands in the infra-red spectrum. The treatment with carbon disulphide apparently lowers the hydroxyl ion content and the metal-oxygen bonds sufficiently to avoid the infra-red absorption bands.

  • Patent number: 4557223
Abstract: The invention relates to a cooling device for an internal combustion engine. In accordance with the invention, the control unit (26) of the device is sensitive to the temperatures given by two sensors (30 and 28) disposed at the inlet and the outlet of the engine (12), and controls the speed variations of two electric motors (20, 24) for driving a pump (18) and a fan (22) associated with the radiator (14). When the outlet temperature T.sub.MS of the engine (12) reaches a threshold S.sub.F which is lower than the threshold S.sub.V for the opening of the thermostat valve (34), the pump rotates at a speed V.sub.1 which is automatically controlled in such a way that the temperature variations .DELTA.T.sub.M between the inlet and the outlet of the engine (12) remains lower than or equal to a limit value .DELTA.S.sub.M. When T.sub.MS reaches S.sub.V, T.sub.MS is in addition regulated to a reference value S.sub.3 which is greater than S.sub.V by automatically controlling the speed of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4557996
Abstract: The invention provides an improved method for the so-called dry-film process for forming a pattern-wise photoresist layer on the substrate surface in which a substrate is overlaid and laminated with a preformed film of a photosensitive composition called a dry film and photolithographically processed. In the inventive method, different from conventional dry-film processes, the substrate plate is first provided with a protecting layer of a photosensitive composition containing a halation inhibitor and the lamination with a dry film is performed without removing the protecting layer. After pattern-wise exposure to light, development of the photosensitive layer is undertaken by use of a developer solvent capable of dissolving both of the protecting layer and the pattern-forming layer. Despite the intervention of the protecting layer, the resolving power and image reproducibility are excellent.
