Abstract: A flowmeter has a tank disposed between a discharge circuit and a supply circuit from which the tank is refilled when the level of the liquid in the tank falls below a predetermined level. A plunger is suspended in the tank by a force sensor. The output of the force sensor is used to measure the rate of flow from the tank to the discharge circuit except when the tank is being refilled. Flow from the tank during a refilling cycle is approximately measured in response to flow parameters in the discharge circuit which are independent of the force sensor and liquid level in the tank. The flow parameters in the discharge circuit are monitored and calibrated during each tank discharge cycle, and the new calibration values are used during the next tank refilling cycle, to obtain reasonably accurate continued flow measurement during each tank refilling cycle.
Abstract: This invention relates to an automatic stone cutter having a construction in which a base can slide on right and left rails, a cylinder main body having a drill is mounted to the base so as to be capable of elevating in the longitudinal direction and the base moves on the rails in the interlocking arrangement with elevation of the cylinder main body. Moreover, the drill can always bore a hole in a predetermined depth from the surface of a mass of stone even if unevenness exists on the surface of the mass of stone.
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for improving contrast accentuation in the case of the re-recording of originals in the sphere of electronic image processing by means of graving devices and scanners. An image signal is obtained by scanning an original opto-electronically dot-by-dot and line-by-line, and at least one surround signal is obtained by evaluating the surrounding area of the image dots. A correction signal which is superimposed on the image signal for the purpose of contrast accentuation is derived from the surround signal and the image signal. The original is thereupon re-recorded on a recording medium to an optional reproduction scale.
Abstract: Hot gases from a fuel burner in a combustion chamber are exhausted to a flue at the top of the furnace. Air to be heated is drawn into the furnace through an upper inlet, passes through a chamber around combustion gas flow tubes, and then downwardly through sidewall flow spaces along the outside of the combustion chamber. Partially heated air from the sidewall spaces flows to one end of the furnace and then through air tubes above the burner to a plenum at the other end of the furnace where the so heated air is withdrawn by a fan. The fuel can be a solid fuel such as lignite, and the heated air can be used for grain drying.
Abstract: The novel polymeric compound proposed in the invention has a backbone structure formed of a copolymeric moiety of maleic anhydride and divinyl ether and pendant groups thereon derived from an anthracycline-type anti-tumor agent, e.g. adriamycin and daunomycin, or 1-.beta.-D-arabinofuranosylcytosine bonded to the maleic anhydride units in the backbone structure by forming amide linkages, the remaining anhydride units in the backbone structure being hydrolyzed into free acid form or a salt thereof. Both in vitro and in vivo tests indicate that the anti-tumor active pendant groups in the polymeric compound can be released sustainedly to exhibit the anti-tumor activity with greatly decreased side effects unavoidable when the above mentioned anti-tumor agents as such are administrated to a patient in a relatively large dose.

Abstract: The carbonaceous body of the invention is prepared by shaping and sintering uniform powdery mixture composed of a powder of a low-temperature coke, a powder of boron carbide and a powder of silicon carbide in such a proportion that the weight proportion of the boron carbide and the silicon carbide is in the range from 2:98 to 80:20 and the volume proportion of the coke powder and the combination of the boron carbide and silicon carbide is in the range from 50:50 to 95:5. The carbonaceous body thus obtained is highly resistant against air oxidation even at a temperature of 1400.degree. C. in addition to the outstandingly high mechanical strengths in comparison with conventional carbonaceous shaped materials such as artificial graphite.

Abstract: A machine to operate with at least one similar machine along a railway line to remove and install railway track portions and switches, has a portal structure extending transversely and straddling the railway line, and has telescopic uprights connected respectively to different telescopic cross-members, so that the uprights can be moved sideways independently of each other to a width sufficient to straddle a switch. At the base of each upright is a crawler track to run on the ballast at the sides of the railway line or switch. Four flanged wheels are mounted on the telescopic columns on the cross-members to move downwardly and run along the rails of the railway line. Below each cross-member are two pivotal hooks to grip the railway track portions and switches.
Abstract: A writing pen or similar article device has a pocket fastening clip pivoted to a body by means of a connector rigid with and outside the body. A separate leaf spring is connected to the free end of the clip and is connected to the body by means of an opening formed in a device outside of and rigid with the body. The opening is between the pivot of the clip and the free end of the clip so that the clip covers and hides the spring by virtue of a groove in the clip in which the spring is dispersed.

Abstract: Contact wear and damage to circular tracks of an end of travel stop arrangement for electric windshield wipers is minimized by the configuration and orientation of the contact. The contact takes the form of a bent end of a contact arm which engages the track with an elongated end edge that extends at an angle greater than zero and less than 90.degree. to the transverse or radial centerline of an insulating sector between ends of a conductive track. The so-angled contact edge slides easily over the junction between conducting and insulating sectors of the track.
Abstract: Process and device for breaking stabilized emulsions.Such a device is constituted by a tank divided into two compartments by a permeable membrane constituting a percolating electrode connected to a continuous or pseudo-continuous electric current supply, a first compartment provided with emulsion feed means and a second compartment provided with means for evacuating the effluent.This device is particularly adapted to the treatment of oil-water emulsions.

Abstract: The invention provides a device for coupling together two elements, each of predetermined shape, so that the two elements are prevented from rotating relative to the device. The device is constituted by a band, which is substantially rigid and is in the form of a closed loop. The band has two rims which are three-dimensionally out of true, and each rim delimiting an opening, which forms the limit of a recess, in which one of the elements to be coupled together can be positioned. The regions of each of the two recesses which lie opposite the openings form part of a single space which is laterally delimited by the band. Each rim substantially constitutes a curve traced on a convex surface of the element of predetermined shape to be coupled.The invention also provides a method of making a coupling device.

Abstract: Packing or sealing moving in a hollow cylinder.Such a device, or moving piston with self-tightening ring, comprises two elements of cylindrical external outline such as a cylindrical rod integral with the first element slides in a cylindrical chamber delimited inside a second element and facing the first element, the two elements being separated by an annular ring that ensures the packing or sealing with the internal wall of the cylinder.Such a piston allows to suppress use of mercury as pressure transmission agent.
Abstract: A stringed musical instrument comprises a body (1) over which are stretched substantially parallel strings (4). Each string is stretched between a tuning key (3) and a bridge-tailpiece assembly (7). This assembly comprises a plate (8) attached to the body (1) and a respective adjustment member for each string mounted on the plate (8). Each adjustment member comprises a peg (15) movable in translation relative to the plate (8) parallel to the corresponding string and a bridge member (18) pivoted to the peg. The bridge member (18) may be oriented relative to the plate (8) of the bridge-tailpiece assembly (7) by a positioning device (22). The bridge-tailpiece assembly (7) comprises a bore (20) through which the corresponding string (4) passes, this string being hooked on to the body (1) at a point such that it bears on the bridge member (18) over substantially the entire length of the bore (20) and that the positioning device is pushed on the body by the string tension.
Abstract: A pedal block device fixed to the sole of a shoe comprising two elongated bars which are preferably identical, each having a transverse groove or recess, and which are transversely spaced one from the other and parallel to the length or longitudinal axis of the shoe, and fastening means cooperating with the sole of the shoe and the bars for separately adjusting, by longitudinal displacement, the position of each bar relative to the sole, and for fixing these positions.
Abstract: A connector fitting for mounting a windscreen wiper arm on the output spindle of a windscreen wiper arm drive mechanism is formed from sheet metal by stamping the outline of a blank, deforming the blank to form a fastening means for the blade-applying spring, chasing the metal to form a bush to receive the spindle and bearing collars for a pivot pin articulating the fitting to the blade, and folding the metal to give the fitting a channel shape.

Abstract: A screen for reproducing continuous-tone pictures of the kind which has an orthogonal, equally spaced screen structure and which is rotated through 45.degree. from the direction of scanning. In this invention, the individual screen dots are split up into four parts by lines extending parallel and perpendicular to the direction of reproduction which pass through the centers of the screen dots, thus producing square part screen-configuration which, in two opposite corners, each contain covered segments which derive from two different screen dots. Prior to reproduction, one such screen-configuration is stored for each tonal value liable to occur and at the time of reproduction these are called up again for selected tonal values and reproduced under the control of the scanning process.
Abstract: The invention relates to a windscreen-wiper element comprising a windscreen-wiper arm (1) and a head (2) fixed on a drive shaft; a compression spring (14) is interposed between a member (10) connected to the head (2) and a bracket (5) encased in the casing (3); the member (10) is articulated on the head (2) and is constituted by a plate perpendicular to the said articulation shaft, the said plate comprising a recess for the accommodation of a spring (14) and being connected to the casing (3) by a sliding connection. The bracket (5) bears by means of the edges of its first element (5a) on the projections (50) provided on the flanges (3a) of the casing (3) and its second element (5b) is accommodated between the web (3b) of the casing (3) and the above-mentioned projections (50). This windscreen-wiper element may in particular be used for heavy vehicles.
Abstract: A contact sensitive probe, especially for coordinate measuring apparatus, comprising a housing having seatings defining a stable rest position for a stylus member projecting from the housing to terminate at a sensing tip, together with a spring for urging the stylus member toward the stable rest position to effect relocation thereof after displacement due to contact of the tip with the test surface, wherein displacement of the stylus member is detected by a capacitative transducer having one plate carried by the housing and one plate carried by the stylus member, said transducer being connected to a circuit means adapted to produce an output signal indicative of a change in capacitance.
