Abstract: Multiple embodiments relate to a method for detecting a fault on a data line in a bus system in a two-line data network having at least two control units. A data signal is emitted by a transmitter-receiver unit on the two data lines as a differential voltage signal that includes a defined quiescent current. The data lines are mutually connected through a resistance bridge for detecting the middle voltage. The middle voltage is detected directly by a microcontroller after a low-pass filter or as a digital value after an analog-to-digital conversion. The result is displayed and/or stored. A circuit arrangement for implementing the method is also provided.
Abstract: According to at least one aspect of the present invention, a coated substrate surface is provided. In at least one embodiment, the coated substrate surface includes a substrate surface, and a high-velocity impact polymer reaction coating for promoting adhesive bonding, the coating having first and second opposing surfaces, the first opposing surface being adjacent to the substrate surface. In at least another embodiment, the high-velocity impact polymer reaction coating is formed by depositing a polymer reaction compound onto the substrate surface with a high-velocity impact device at a velocity in the range of 10 to 200 meters per second, the polymer reaction compound being formed from substantially random fragmentation of prepolymer molecules.

Abstract: An ion exchange membrane is prepared from a block copolymer comprising a hydrophobic polymer segment and a polar polymer segment. The ion exchange membrane is formed by placing a film layer in steam, water or an electric field at a temperature greater than about 40° C. for sufficient amount of time to develop a bicontinuous morphology. The ion exchange membrane is also formed from a film layer comprising a block copolymer and a solvent. The film layer is placed in an electric field at an elevated temperature and dried therein. The film layer is thereby converted into an ion exchange membrane with bicontinuous morphology. The ion exchange membrane prepared according to these processes exhibits improved mechanical and electrochemical properties.

Abstract: An environment-resistant module which provides both thermal and vibration isolation for a packaged micromachined or MEMS device is disclosed. A microplatform and a support structure for the microplatform provide the thermal and vibration isolation. The package is both hermetic and vacuum compatible and provides vertical feedthroughs for signal transfer. A micromachined or MEMS device transfer method is also disclosed that can handle a wide variety of individual micromachined or MEMS dies or wafers, in either a hybrid or integrated fashion. The module simultaneously provides both thermal and vibration isolation for the MEMS device using the microplatform and the support structure which may be fabricated from a thin glass wafer that is patterned to create crab-leg shaped suspension tethers or beams.

Abstract: Techniques for controlling a thread on a computerized system having multiple processors involve accessing state information of a blocked thread, and maintaining the state information of the blocked thread at current values when the state information indicates that less than a predetermined amount of time has elapsed since the blocked thread ran on the computerized system. Such techniques further involve setting the state information of the blocked thread to identify affinity for a particular processor of the multiple processors when the state information indicates that at least the predetermined amount of time has elapsed since the blocked thread ran on the computerized system. Such operation enables the system to place a cold blocked thread which shares data with another thread on the same processor of that other thread so that, when the blocked thread awakens and runs, that thread is closer to the shared data.

Abstract: A vehicle and a method for controlling a vehicle transmission is provided. The vehicle has at least one wheel and a positionable acceleration device. The vehicle includes an engine being responsive to the position of the acceleration device, wherein the engine provides torque to the wheel. In one embodiment, a transmission is coupled to the engine and the wheel, wherein the transmission provides multiple speed ratios and is configured to operate in a continuously variable mode. The vehicle also includes a controller that communicates with the engine and the transmission. The controller senses the position of the acceleration device, determine a shift schedule based on the position of the acceleration device, and set an engine speed limit for the engine. The controller also generates signals for the transmission to provide the speed ratio based on the engine speed limit while the transmission operates in the continuously variable mode.
