  • Patent number: 4307765
Abstract: A cover for a luggage case, embodying decorative side panels of simulated multi-laminar construction. Portions of the periphery of the principal sheet of covering material are cut away and decorative strips fastened in overlying outwardly projecting relation to the cut away portions to complete the outer contour of the principal sheet. The edge of a surrounding strip is attached, as by stitching, to the outer peripheral edge of the combined principal sheet and decorative strips. After securing the overlapping ends by stitching together, the surrounding strip is readily disposed at a right angle for attachment to the shell of the luggage case.

  • Patent number: 4308132
Abstract: A reagent and a method for using the reagent for treating a solid material disposed in a liquid medium and having an oxygen-controlled surface condition. The reagent includes a liquid hydrocarbon, a reducing material and an activator material. The liquid hydrocarbon has a specific gravity different from the specific gravity of the liquid medium. The reducing material is present in an amount sufficient to establish a reducing environment around the solid material for breaking the oxygen control on the surface of the solid material. The activator material is present in an amount sufficient to establish an electrostatic charge on the solid material after the oxygen-controlled surface condition has been broken. A more specific feature of the invention is directed to the method of flotation of extremely fine bituminous coal having an oxygen-controlled surface condition. The reagent is useful in froth flotation processes and in bath flotation and separation processes.

  • Patent number: 4306721
Abstract: A golf putter with an adjustable sighting device to improve accuracy of putting, particularly on hilly terrain. A directional dial is fixed above the club head with a pointer just below the dial being rotatable by the golfer to different positions relative to the dial to fix a direct line between the ball and the cup independently of the angular position of the club head. The pointer is carried in a horizontal position generally at right angles to a rod that rotates in a bore within a tubular fitting by which the club shaft is secured to the club head. A steel cable coaxially secured to the rod extends telescopically through the hollow club shaft to a rotary cap or knob on the upper end of the club shaft by rotation of which the golfer is able to adjust the pointer relative to the dial to obtain a directional fix on the cup.

  • Patent number: 4305058
Abstract: An inertial switch device, for installation in an electrical circuit of an automotive vehicle, to signal excessive rates of acceleration, deceleration and turning for the purpose of preventing abusive driving which wastes gasoline. The switch device comprises a housing having a closed chamber with a concave bottom surface containing a globule or drop of mercury and a plurality of circular contacts supported therein so that the drop of mercury successively contacts them when a momentum force causes the drop of mercury to climb a side of the dish. The circular contacts are of increasingly larger diameter as the drop climbs the side of the dish with increasing inertia and are arranged in circuit-closing relation to a warning signal device, either audible or visible.

  • Patent number: 4301325
Abstract: A conduit end is sealed around one or more than one insulated conductor by using a chamber (4) having a peripheral wall, a base with an opening through it communicating with the conduit (2) and an opening opposite the base. The conductor(s) (3) extend through both openings; a pre-formed annular body of a setting resin composition (8) is inserted while in a pasty or viscous condition into the chamber to encircle the conductor or conductors. Axial pressure is then applied to the still pasty or viscous annular body to cause it to flow and form a sealing body in peripherally continuous contact with the chamber and with the, or each, insulated conductor, after which the resin composition sets. A kit for use in the method is also claimed.

  • Patent number: 4300291
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for heating and/or drying particulate materials such as coal wherein the particulates are fed into a direct heating fluidizing chamber, carried in a stream of heated oxygen-free gas at a temperature sufficiently high to heat the particles to a preselected temperature. The particles are then removed from the gas stream at the preselected temperature and then the gas is reheated in a heat exchanger and recycled. Where the particulate material to be dried yields a vapor, such as steam, the vapor is used as the transport or fluidizing gas. Means are provided for removing and/or condensing such vapor beyond the amount needed for fluidization.
