  • Patent number: 6988193
Abstract: A method of booting a plurality of target devices in communication with a network based on at least one target device definition is provided. A server in communication with the plurality of target devices receives a request for a boot file from at least one target device. A boot server in communication with the plurality of target devices is contacted. The boot server determines if the target device is defined. If the target device is not defined, the target device definition for the target device is created at the boot server. A bootstrap is executed at the target device, the bootstrap corresponding to the target definition. Systems and programs for using the method are also provided.

  • Patent number: 6987932
Abstract: An optical transceiver is controlled through the use of a monitor optical signal generator and monitor optical signal detector mounted in close physical proximity to the optical signal generator and detector of the transceiver in a housing having a reflective surface. The monitor optical signal generator transmits a reference optical signal that is reflected and directed to the monitor optical signal detector by the reflective surface of the housing. Changes in the reference optical signal detected at the monitor optical signal detector are used for controlling the optical signal generator of the transceiver.

  • Patent number: 6889054
Abstract: A system for implementing a method for communicating an advertisement employs a primary call center, a mobile station, a base station, and an advertiser call center. When the mobile station is registered with the base station, the primary call center controls a transmission of one or more advertisements to the mobile station in accordance with a schedule preferred by the mobile station user with each advertisement matching a profile of the mobile station user. The mobile station user can either store the advertisement for future reference or respond to the advertisement. The response can be an acknowledgement of the advertisement or a desire to establish a communication link between the mobile station and the advertiser call center to thereby attempt a purchase of a good or a service. In response to an advertisement, the mobile station user is provided with a reward as an incentive to regularly receive advertisements.

  • Patent number: 6884224
Abstract: A needle safety and protection device that automatically caps the used tip of a needle the instant the needle is withdrawn from the patient to protect the user against infection risks. A spiral type cut safety shield remains relaxed until the device comes in contact with the patient's skin. The safety shield attaches to the patent's skin through an adhesive component creating a tensile force once the needle is withdrawn, extending the safety disk out of its relaxed position. Under tension, the safety disk creates a cone around the needle, forming a protective shield for the needle, without any assistance by the user. The tip of the needle then engages a portion of the shield, which prevents the tip from being re-inserted into the skin of the patient or the user of the needle.

  • Patent number: 6880113
Abstract: A computer for implementing a method for conditionally capturing hardware scan dump data to minimize the reboot recovery time employs a service processor operable to detect a failure of another hardware component of the computer. Upon detection, the service processor will conditionally capture hardware scan dump data. The first condition for capturing hardware scan dump data is the service processor being activated into an active storing mode of operation labeled “Always”. The second condition for capturing hardware scan dump data is the service processor being activated to a reactive storing mode of operation labeled “As Needed” and the error causing the operational failure being a type of error where hardware scan dump data is needed or desired by a system engineer in correcting the operational failure. By conditionally capturing hardware scan dump data, the amount of data being processed over multiple failures of the computer is minimized.

  • Patent number: 6857083
Abstract: A processor core for transitioning a debugging unit between a plurality of operating states generates trace data as it processes operating signals of an instruction stream. The processor core provides a trigger event signal to the debugging unit in response to a trigger instruction signal within the instruction stream that is representative of triggering instruction for transitions debugging unit to one of (1) a base operating state, (2) a dynamic storage operating state or (3) a static storage operating state. Concurrently or alternatively, the processor core can provide the trigger event signal to the debugging unit as a function of generated trigger data in response to additional operational instructions within the instruction stream.

  • Patent number: 6842905
Abstract: A software wrapper for interfacing to pre-existing software code is provided. The software wrapper is capable of inheriting from a first application program interface (API) and a second API. For calls to the first API, the software wrapper delegates to a pre-existing enumeration of objects. The wrapper creates a vector identifying elements of the enumeration. Iterators provided by the wrapper maintain positional cursors for calls to the second API. A comparison is made between each of the positional cursors and the vector. If a positional cursor exceeds the size of the vector, additional elements are extracted from the enumeration, placed in the vector, and returned on the second API. Otherwise, if the positional cursor is smaller than the vector size, the wrapper delegates directly to the vector. The first API can be a java-based enumeration API and the second API can be a java-based collection API.
