  • Patent number: 6646393
Abstract: A method of operating a positive tolerance color cathode-ray tube (CRT) having an evacuated envelope with an electron gun and a focus mask therein for generating at least one electron beam. The envelope further includes a faceplate panel having a luminescent screen of color-emitting phosphor stripes on an interior surface thereof. The color-emitting phosphor stripes each have a width slightly smaller than one-third of the screen pitch, such that large clipping and leaving tolerances may be achieved therewith. The focus mask, having a plurality of spaced-apart first conductive electrodes, is located adjacent to an effective picture area of the screen. The spacing between the first conductive electrodes defines a plurality of slots substantially parallel to the color-emitting phosphor stripes on the screen. Each of the first conductive electrodes has a substantially continuous insulating material layer formed on a screen facing side thereof.

  • Patent number: 6638130
Abstract: A method and apparatus for attaching a tension mask to a mask frame. The apparatus is comprised of a clamping plate upon which is mounted a frame clamp and a frame deflector assembly. Above the clamping plate is located a mask clamp assembly comprising a forming slide. A mask frame is inserted into the frame clamp and secured on a plurality of axes to the top of the clamping plate. As the mask frame is secured, a compression force is applied to the mask frame by the frame deflector assembly and a tension mask is aligned and positioned to the top of the mask frame. While the mask frame is in compression, a forming edge on the forming slide conforms an edge of the tension mask to the mask frame where it is then affixed. The compression force on the mask frame is then released causing the frame to impart a tension force on the tension mask.

  • Patent number: 6620252
Abstract: A metallization module for applying a metal layer on the screen of a CRT faceplate panel is described. The metallization module comprises a vacuum chamber having sidewalls, a base, an adaptor plate, and a lid. The adaptor plate is positioned between the lid and the sidewalls of the metallization module. Evacuation of the vacuum chamber causes atmospheric pressure to act against the outside surface of the lid, forming an airtight seal between the lid, the adaptor plate, and the top lip of the sidewalls. A plurality adjustable rods in conjunction with the adaptor plate are used to support the faceplate panel within the metallization module.

  • Patent number: 6614155
Abstract: An apparatus and method for dampening vibration of a television tube in a tension mask. The apparatus include a vibration reducing assembly that is affixed between a mask frame and a busbar assembly of a tensioned mask. The vibration reducing assembly is comprised of a tension coil spring with a pin inserted in the center of the coils. As the busbar assembly or mask is vibrated, the spring pulls and releases, allowing the internal pin to rub against the coils, scrubbing away energy. The busbar assembly and the mask are formed such that their independent resonant frequencies differ greatly from one another.

  • Patent number: 6590326
Abstract: An apparatus for maintaining tension in a mask frame of a cathode ray tube. The apparatus includes affixing a shadow mask to a pair of triboxes disposed along opposite sides of a mask frame at a predetermined tension. The triboxes are coupled to the mask frame by braces having a different coefficient of thermal expansion than the triboxes so as to compensate for the expansion of the frame during thermal cycling of the cathode ray tube. Consequently, it is possible to maintain the tension force applied to the shadow mask by the mask frame.

  • Patent number: 6577050
Abstract: A cathode ray tube comprising a color selection mask made from a material in tension and having a relatively low coefficient of thermal expansion, supported by a frame made from a material having a higher coefficient of thermal expansion. Along at least two sides of the frame are disposed two metal inserts made from a material whose coefficient of thermal expansion is similar to that of the mask. The inserts are secured to the opposed sides of the frame at their middle, and the mask is welded to the inserts. The mechanical problems relating to the differences in expansion of the materials making up the mask and the frame, during the high-temperature tube manufacturing steps, are avoided.

  • Patent number: 6576383
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a luminescent screen assembly for a color cathode-ray tube (CRT) is disclosed. The luminescent screen assembly is formed on an inner surface of a faceplate panel of the CRT. The luminescent screen assembly includes an organic conductive (OC) layer overcoated with an organic photoconductive (OPC) layer. Three different color-emitting phosphors are sequentially deposited over portions of the OPC layer by uniformly charging and than selectively discharging desired areas thereof. Appropriate color-emitting phosphors are then deposited on the discharged areas. The first color-emitting phosphor lines are deposited on the OPC layer by charging and then selectively discharging the OPC layer using a symmetric exposure profile. Thereafter, the OPC layer is charged again and selectively discharged to deposit the second color-emitting phosphor lines using an asymmetric exposure profile.

  • Patent number: 6570312
Abstract: The invention provides a tension mask support frame assembly having a pair of support blade members attached to a frame. The support blade members are attached to opposite sides of the frame at a central location whereby each support blade member has a pair of distal ends extending from the central attachment point. A damping scrubber is disposed in the space between the support blade member and the frame near a distal end of the support blade members. Vibrations in the tension mask are thereby reduced through the transfer of the vibrations to the frame through rubbing action of the damping scrubbers.
