  • Patent number: 8240161
Abstract: A refrigerant system is provided with a pulse width modulation valve. A compressor temperature is monitored to prevent potential reliability problems and compressor failures due to an excessive temperature inside the compressor. A control changes the pulse width modulation valve duty cycle rate to maintain temperature within specified limits, while achieving the desired capacity, and complying with design requirements of a conditioned environment, without compromising refrigerant system reliability. As the compressor temperature increases, the pulse width modulation valve duty cycle time is adjusted to ensure that adequate amount of refrigerant is circulated through the compressor to cool the compressor internal components.

  • Patent number: 8218477
Abstract: A wireless communication system includes the ability to determine that a fault condition associated with at least a portion of a cell associated with a base station is likely. Disclosed examples include using information regarding call activity levels of various portions of a cell for determining an expected call activity level for at least one portion of the cell. One example includes using the least active portion of the cell as the portion of interest. Previously observed activity levels provide information to automatically determine an expected relationship between the activity levels of the portions of the cell. Disclosed examples include determining whether a deviation between the actual call activity level and the expected call activity level is statistically significant enough to indicate a fault condition with at least the portion of the cell, which is of interest.

  • Patent number: 8219106
Abstract: A reverse link load control strategy utilizes a total call load metric in place of a reverse signal strength indicator metric for managing reverse link resources. In a disclosed example, a load control module (40) measures the reverse signal strength indicator (62) and measures an active cell load (64) using known techniques. A relationship between the reverse signal strength indicator, the active cell load, an other cell load component and a jammer component provides the ability to determine the other cell load component and the jammer component. Once the other cell load component has been determined, a total call load based upon the active cell load component and the other cell load component provides a useful metric for allocating reverse link resources between existing users and for determining whether to allow a new user, for example.

  • Patent number: 8218565
Abstract: An alternating scheduling algorithm is useful in a mesh network. Transmissions are scheduled along a branch in a tree structure such that simultaneous transmissions occur only in non-adjacent layers along the branch. In a disclosed example, every other layer is grouped into a set of layers such that the sets are mutually exclusive and the sets only include non-adjacent layers. One example includes designating one set of layers as the even layers and another set as odd layers. A scheduler schedules transmissions on the layers such that simultaneous transmissions along a branch occur only on layers within one of the sets while transmissions on the other set along the same branch are prevented. The sets of layers selected for transmission are alternated each subsequent scheduling window or frame.

  • Patent number: 8213136
Abstract: An aircraft electrical system comprises a generator to be driven as part of a gas turbine engine. The generator supplies electrical power to a plurality of accessories associated with the gas turbine engine, and to an aircraft power bus in parallel to the supply to the accessories. A control detects a short circuit on the aircraft power bus. When a short circuit is detected on the aircraft power bus, a switch is driven open to disconnect the aircraft power bus from the generator. In this manner, the power will continue to be delivered to the plurality of accessories. In a separate feature, a control voltage is provided by an auxiliary permanent magnet generator to a voltage regulator for the main generator.

  • Patent number: 8207636
Abstract: A solid state power control includes a sensor to detect when the power control is not connected to a power source. Disconnecting the power source turns off an output stage in the power control. If the power control receives a command to turn on its output stage while the power source is disconnected from the power control or otherwise not present, logic in the power control prevents the command from reaching the output stage. When the power source is connected or reconnected to the power control, the output stage remains off until the logic detects a zero crossing in the power source, thereby preventing high inrush currents into the power control. Suppressing high inrush currents caused by power source reconnection ensures that any current trip circuitry in the power control will be activated only by short circuit conditions and not by abnormal inrush currents.
