Abstract: An electric motor for a fuel pump is provided with a shutdown switch positioned intermediate an inverter, and its control coil. In this location, the shutdown function can be achieved without heavy components. In another feature, when the fuel pump is shut down, a signal is sent upstream to a voltage regulator associated with a generator, such that the voltage supplied downstream by the generator can be reduced to eliminate any potential voltage spike due to the shutdown of the electric motor. The electric motor with shutdown switch enables low weight fault tolerant flux regulated machines.
Abstract: A heating apparatus for a heat exchanger system includes a manifold having a plurality of burners, a shutoff valve, a first controller and a second controller. The shutoff valve divides the manifold into a first manifold portion and a second manifold portion. The first controller selectively controls the communication of a fluid within the manifold. The second controller selectively actuates the shutoff valve between a first position and a second position to control a firing rate of the plurality of burners.
Abstract: A rotor blade for a gas turbine engine includes an airfoil that extends in span between a tip and a root opposite from the tip. The root includes a plug, a looped portion that surrounds the plug and a clamp. The clamp contacts only a portion of the looped portion on an opposite side of the looped portion from the plug.

Abstract: A wireless communication system (20) includes a base station (22) that is capable of communicating with a plurality of intermediate cells (24, 60). Each intermediate cell (24, 60) directly communicates with a plurality of end users (26, 64). Communications from an end user (26, 64) may be routed through the intermediate cell to a wireless network (30) associated with the base station (22) or directly to another intermediate cell in a disclosed example. The intermediate cells communicate with the base station on behalf of the end users such that the wireless network recognizes the intermediate cell as a single user and, in one example, assigns temporary listed directory numbers to each of the end users associated with each intermediate cell so that communications from each end user may be handled individually.
Abstract: A method of replacing a generator rotor shaft into a generator includes the steps of moving the rotor shaft such that a central portion supports a main winding section of the generator, and such that smaller diameter portions are supported by bearings, and utilizing a wire that extends through slots in the rotor shaft to connect a rectifier assembly to an exciter rotor.
Abstract: An exemplary magnetic coupling device (30) useful for coupling elevator doors includes a core (40) having an exterior surface. An active portion (48) of the surface is configured to direct a magnetic flux associated with the core in a desired direction for facilitating elevator door coupling. An interruption (80) in the exterior surface near the active portion (48) is configured to establish a relatively high magnetic saturation in the core in a vicinity of the interruption (80).

Abstract: An electromagnetic control for the landing gear of an aircraft includes a hub to be fixed to a frame of an aircraft landing gear. A rotor rotates with a tire on the aircraft landing gear. Permanent magnetic disks are associated with the rotor, and interspersed with disks on the hub. Some of the disks on the hub are electromagnetic disks supplied with electric power, and some of the plurality of disks on the hub are made of high electric conductivity material.
Abstract: A slider seal assembly for a gas turbine engine includes a housing, a seal plate moveable relative to the housing and a retaining ring. The housing includes an outer surface, an inner surface, and a recessed opening between the outer surface and the inner surface. The seal plate is received within the recessed opening. The inner surface of the housing includes a curved portion which is curved in an outward direction toward the outer surface.
Abstract: A method of repairing a case for a gas turbine engine includes identifying areas of damage on its internal holding structures in a gas turbine case, and utilizing cold metal transfer to deposit weld material to the internal holding structures.
Abstract: A quick disconnect valve including a first connector with a first shutoff gate and a second connector with a second shutoff gate. A fluid flow passage is located in the first connector and the second connector. The first shutoff gate and the second shutoff gate include an aperture and are movable between a fully open first position to allow fluid flow through the fluid passage and a fully closed second position to prevent fluid flow through the fluid passage.
Abstract: A fluid circuit breaker includes a plurality of petals and a bias system attached to the plurality of petals to maintain the plurality of petals at a closed unobstructed flow condition below a predetermined flow velocity.
Abstract: A mounting assembly for a propeller assembly component includes a monolithic piece having a housing and a mounting pad. An auxiliary component is directly mounted to the mounting pad of the monolithic piece.
Abstract: An elevator assembly (20) includes braking devices (30) for controlling movement of an elevator car (22). A braking device (30) includes an electrical actuator (62) for controlling relative movement between a carriage (42) and a base (40) that is mountable on the elevator car (22). Relative movement between the carriage (42) and the base (40) results in at least one braking member (46) following a surface (60) on the base (40) for movement between a released position and a braking position.
Abstract: A differential lock assembly includes a shift collar (36) that is moved in response to an electronic input signal between locked and unlocked positions. A coil housing (40) is supported on the shift collar and includes a recess (42) that receives a coil. A drag plate (60) is connected to the shift collar and coil housing to enclose the coil within the recess. When the coil is energized, the shift collar (36) is moved to the locked position. A resilient member (74) returns the shift collar (36) to the unlocked position when the coil is not energized. The shift collar (36), coil housing (40), drag plate (60), and resilient member (74) are pre-assembled together to form an assembled unit, which is installed within an axle differential as an adjusting nut to apply preload to an associated differential bearing.
Abstract: A vehicle brake assembly provides an indicator system in which the operating shaft assembly rotates about a pivot axis to rotate a cam member attached thereto against a cam surface which extends from an indicator adjustment shaft. The cam member drives the cam surface and attached indicator adjustment shaft to overcome a biasing member, actuate an overstroke sensor, and simultaneously retract an indicator post to provide a visual indication. Another indicator system includes an overstroke sensor located within the brake housing in an angular position relative the pivot axis adjacent a path of the operating shaft assembly. Another indicator system includes a mechanical overstroke member that buckles in response to contact with the operating shaft to provide overstroke identification from outside the brake housing.
Abstract: A system for adjusting a brake force to be applied by a brake includes a module for estimating a weight of a vehicle to which a brake is fitted, a module for determining an angle of incline upon which the vehicle is positioned, and a control unit for calculating a sufficient brake force to be applied according to predetermined criteria based upon the estimated weight and the incline to maintain the vehicle in a stationary state. The control unit is configured to signal the brake to apply the calculated amount of force.
