Abstract: An earnings volatility reduction procedure includes determining a first sensitivity value of a portfolio to underlying market conditions, trading in an immunizing instrument having a second sensitivity value substantially equal in magnitude and opposite in value of the first sensitivity value, and trading in a qualifying instrument having a third sensitivity value substantially equal to the first sensitivity value. A derivative portfolio (in particular, one that includes a financial instrument for which changes in value are characterized as earnings pursuant to FAS 133) is structured by determining a sensitivity of the derivative portfolio with respect to financial conditions in a trading market, executing an immunizing purchase of a second trading instrument in an amount equal to the magnitude of the current sensitivity and opposite in value, and executing a qualifying sale of a third trading instrument in an amount equal to amount of the current sensitivity.

Abstract: The subject invention provides a means of automatically detecting and recording a person's use of magazines, i.e. printed media exposure, for the purpose of market research. The present invention comprises one or more electrically conductive marker regions applied to certain specific locations on one or more magazine pages. In one general embodiment, the presence and relative separation of the marker regions are detected by a capacitive sensors and electronic device that stores, processes and communicates the data wirelessly to an external device. In another embodiment, a passive chip less tag is used to indirectly measure the change in conductivity of the conductive regions caused by prolonged exposure to air or light. Exemplary methods are described for acquiring readership and exposure data using the present invention.

Abstract: A user may generate a digital image of a negotiable instrument such as a check. The digital image may be transmitted to an institution in a digital image file for deposit of the check. After the user selects to submit the digital image file, the digital image file may be sent from a user computing device to the institution. The user computing device may be decoupled from the transaction once the submission of the digital image file for deposit of the check is made. The transaction is thereafter managed by the institution. Incomplete transactions are avoided by moving the transaction processing to the server side at the institution after the user submits the digital image file. This may be referred to as an atomic deposit transaction.

Abstract: Methods and systems are presented for managing Risks, including regulatory and reputational risk. The methods can be implemented in a computer and include receiving data descriptive of informational artifacts with content related to at least one of reputational and regulatory risk into the computer system. Abstract: A method and system is disclosed for processing information provided from various content providers in the form objects having states subject to periodic updates. Formatted information indicating a current state of the objects are delivered to subscribing clients in substantially real-time. An information manager module is configured to receiving raw data objects from the content providers, format the information, and broadcast current state information on various broadcast data stream. A client manager module supports multiple client communication sessions and connects to at least one broadcast data stream. Current state information received on a broadcast data stream is processed and transmitted to specific clients in accordance with processing rules specified in the client profiles.

Abstract: A real time information manager which processes raw data from data providers, such as feeds of current information about financial product offerings, is provided. Raw data objects received from various data providers are analyzed, formatted, and a current version of each unique data object is stored in an object storage pool. Information about the state of each objects is transmitted on a particular output data channel in accordance with the type of object. A subscriber process can access one or more of the data channels and utilize the broadcast data. Abstract: An image of a negotiable instrument may be communicated from a user to a financial institution using a messaging application so that funds associated with the negotiable instrument may be deposited into a user's bank account. A user may launch an instant messaging application and establish a communications session with a predetermined account at the financial institution to communicate the image. The image may be stored in a file or created by a capture device under control of the instant messaging application. The image file may be processed and verified by the financial institution, where it may be deposited in an account associated with the user.

Abstract: The disclosure details the implementation of an apparatus, method, and system for a macroeconomic equity investment design and trade system (the Wavefront system). The disclosure teaches a set of quantitative tools to help investors design trades around macro themes. Part of the approach is a linked set of models called Wavefronts, which describe how economic shocks ripple through the economy into company performance, market value and equity returns in the US market. In one embodiment, the modeling may be viewed as having in three parts. The first converts an economic shock into a comprehensive set of shifts in the economy. Abstract: A method and system for simulating changes in volatility for a price of a particular option on an underlying financial instrument is disclosed. A volatility surface model having at least one surface parameter is provided along with a set of volatilities for a plurality of options on the underlying financial instrument. The set of volatilities is analyzed to determine an initial value for each surface parameter which, when used in the surface model, defines a surface approximating the set of volatilities under normal market conditions. The values of the surface parameters are then evolved using an appropriate evolution function. Prior to applying the surface parameters to the model, the parameter values can be adjusted to introduce changes in offset, skew, term, or other parameters of the volatility surface to allow for simulation of unusual market conditions. A volatility value for a particular option is extracted from the volatility surface defined by the evolved and stress-adjusted surface parameter values.
Abstract: According to some embodiments, a futures contract is listed on a futures trading exchange. The futures contract physically settles upon expiration into a reference swap. The reference swap is cleared by a clearing house so that the physical settlement requires that the holder of a position in the futures contract upon expiration takes a specified side of the reference swap against the clearing house. The reference swap may for example be a credit default index swap, a single-name credit default swap, an interest rate swap or a yield curve swap.
Abstract: A system allows a health care provider to arrange payment at the time of service for a patient responsibility portion of a health care claim amount, even though the provider may not know what the patient responsibility portion will be until after adjudication. A health care debit card is associated with an account of the patient. At the time of service, the patient presents the card to the provider. The provider uses the card to authorize the system to hold an estimate of the patient responsibility amount in suspense in the patient's account. After adjudication, when the actual patient responsibility amount is known, a transaction set is sent to the system. The system then automatically transfers the actual patient responsibility amount from the patient's account and into the provider's bank account. Any remainder of the suspended funds is left in the patient's account. A trace number is provided so that the provider can reconcile bank statement deposits with transaction set information.
