  • Patent number: 4981230
Abstract: This relates to an improved tamper band construction for use in conjunction with closure caps for locking beneath a retaining bead on a container neck finish when the closure cap is removed to indicate rotation of the closure cap. The tamper indicating band is provided with a plurality of flaps which are initially molded in a radially inwardly, axial downwardly directed position and then are folded upwardly to radially inwardly and axially upwardly directed positions where they are engagable beneath a container retaining bead. Most particularly, the plurality of flaps are joined in groups by connecting bridges so that each group of flaps pivot as a unit with the connecting bridges stretching and providing an over center snapping action to retain the flaps in their operative positions after they are folded to such positions.

  • Patent number: 4980100
Abstract: Blow molded plastic containers where at least the body of such containers is of a laminated construction including, for example, a barrier layer which in the case of the container receiving carbonated products would be a gas barrier layer. It has been found that delamination does occur and this is now solved by selectively providing the container body with minute vent openings which do not extend entirely through the container body, but into that area where delamination occurs and there is an accumulation of a permeant, such as CO.sub.2. The minute vents may be formed in the exterior wall of the container either by way of piercing pins or by utilizing a laser. In the case of the piercing pins, there are incorporated in the blow mold for blow molding the container from a preform and are generally placed along the parting lines of the blow mold and also in central parts of the wall. The construction and operation of the piercing pins may be provided in several forms.

  • Patent number: 4978324
Abstract: A torsion damping device, particularly for use with automotive vehicles and of the kind comprising a support structure (11) mounted on a wheel member, e.g. a flywheel (1). The flywheel is fixed to a first shaft (A) by first fastening devices (2), and a hub (12), secured to a second shaft (B) for rotation therewith. The hub is coupled with the support structure (11) through resilient springs (14). The support structure (11) constitutes one (22) of the components (22, 23) of a sealed casing (20), which is at least partially filled with a lubricant fluid and which is secured on the flywheel by second fastening devices (21) located radially outwardly of the first fastening devices (2). The casing (20) carries and encloses a torsion damper (15) having peripheral resilient springs (14A, 14B).

  • Patent number: 4978211
Abstract: A positive power ophthalmic lens has a central optically active area the diameter of which is at most equal to the diameter of its geometrical contour. It has an optional peripheral merging area around the central optically active area, between the latter and the geometrical contour. The diameter D.sub.1 in millimeters of the central optically active area is related to the power P of the lens in diopters by a general equation of the type:D.sub.1 =a-b.pwhere a is a numerical parameter taking a value between 84 and 89 and b is a numerical parameter taking a value between 4 and 4.9. This equation makes it possible to obtain well corrected positive power ophthalmic lenses with a large diameter that are relatively light in weight.

  • Patent number: 4976534
Abstract: The proximity P of a simultaneous vision optical lens for correcting presbyopia is defined as the reciprocal of the distance D at which a light ray parallel to and at a distance h from its axis crosses the axis after passing through the lens. The curve representing the proximity P of the lens lies between a lower envelope curve P.sub.inf and an upper envelope curve P.sub.sup satisfying the following equations:P.sub.inf =f(h)=(.SIGMA.A'.sub.i h.sup.i)+P.sub.VLP.sub.sup =f(h)=(.SIGMA.A".sub.i h.sup.i)+P.sub.VLin which P.sub.VL is the proximity for distant vision and A'.sub.i, A".sub.i are numeric coefficients depending on the proximity addition added for near vision to the proximity for far vision. The lens may be implemented as a contact lens, an intra-ocular implant or an intra-corneal lens.

  • Patent number: 4976656
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a torsion damping device, of the kind comprising two coaxial parts which are mounted so as to be rotatable with respect to one another against the action of circumferentially acting resilient members, with a phasing ring operatively connected between the resilient members so that the resilient members are effectively mounted for operation in series with each other. The phasing ring is maintained in a radial relationship by a plurality of pads, which being separate from each other, are spaced apart circumferentially, with each pad being individually secured to an appropriate one of the coaxial parts. The pads are preferably made from a synthetic material. The invention is especially applicable to clutches of the lock up type for use in hydrokinetic coupling apparatus for automobiles.

  • Patent number: 4973259
Abstract: A ground connector for securing a grounding wire to a conductive shield of a coaxial cable. The connector comprises a strip of flexible sheet metal which is configured to be bent to form a grounding wire attachment loop and a coaxial cable loop. The strip of sheet metal defines clamp portions each having a fastener securing aperture. A fastener clampingly engages the clamp portions through the apertures to clampingly engage the grounding wire attachment loop and the coaxial cable loop about respectively to a grounding wire and a conductive shield of a coaxial cable. At least the coaxial cable loop has an inner serrated surface portion for frictional retention with an outer surface of the conductive shield when clamped substantially thereabout by the tightening of the fastener and prevents the shield from being punctured or damaged thereby.
