  • Patent number: 4764982
Abstract: A secure communication system uses narrow beam laser transmissions from a relay station high above the surface of the earth and another station which may be a submerged submarine. Position reporting by a laser transmission from the other station or submarine to the relay station provides for acquisition, tracking and data transmission between the stations. For strategic use transmissions to the submarine for one way data transmission is achieved by radio relay to the relay station and laser down link transmission to the submarine. Transponding mode operation is provided for a two-way transmission data link.

  • Patent number: 4733124
Abstract: A cathode structure for a magnetron representative of a self-oscillation type microwave electron tube comprises a pair of opposite end shields for supporting both ends of a filament helically wound in an axial direction, and a getter fixed on at least an upper end shield positioned on the side of a terminal from which a microwave oscillation output is produced. The upper end shield is concaved with respect to a lower end shield, and the getter provided on the upper end shield is also concaved so as to be closely fitted over substantially the entirety of an outer surface of the upper end shield. Preferably, the getter provided on the upper end shield has an upright annular wall of a central burring hole. Thus, the improved cathode structure is immune to deformation and suitable for cleaning and welding, thereby ensuring improved lifetime stability and high fabrication efficiency.

  • Patent number: 4700391
Abstract: Digital processing of speech signals for compression/expansion pitch change is provided by writing and reading a ROM at different rates and controlling the discard/repeat segments of memory to be integral multiples of the pitch period. The rear pointer jumps a portion of the memory to either skip a portion (in compression) or retrace a portion (in expansion) of the recorded information. The read pointer jumps so as to avoid crossing the write pointer (thereby avoiding reading old recorded information). The jump occurs when a predetermined spacing or condition is reached between read and write pointers.

Abstract: A dimpled golf ball for use after dark. The ball is made of translucent plastic and contains in a diametrical hole therein a chemiluminescent light stick which when activated renders the ball when used in the dark plainly visible in the air and on the ground. In a preferred form, the ball is made to comply with the rules of the United States Golf Association so that it may also be used for competitive daytime play. In a modified form, the resilience of the ball may be substantially diminished so that it will travel a much less distance than the preferred ball when hit with the same club.

  • Patent number: 4685038
Abstract: A hanging lamp can be folded in a compact size so as to ease packaging and shipment. The hanging lamp includes a foldable lampshade and a switch housing having a plurality of bendable lamp tube attached thereto. A plurality of ribs of the lampshade extend downwardly and outwardly from a top centerpiece forming a dome-shaped frame structure. Each rib includes an upper rib segment and a lower rib segment connected with each other by a pivot pin. A spring is disposed around the pivot pin and biases the lower rib segment away from the upper rib segment in a transverse direction so as to ease folding up the lower rib segment against the upper rib segment. The bendable lamp tube can also be bent inwardly so that the hanging lamp occupies little space in shipment.
