A sleeve 196,240 is biased and structured to normally urge the roller 186,238 into the shank-pressing position, and is movable relative to the body 106,234 to facilitate removal of the shank from the chuck 30,232.

    Abstract: A power drivable chuck 30 includes a body 72 which is formed with a shank-receiving opening 34 having a triangular cross section. A spring 104 is located about a forward section 78 of the body 72, and is captured within a chamber 102 between a base surface 98 of a sleeve 76 and a forward surface 100 of an intermediate section 80 of the body. A ball 90 is located in a passage 86 formed through the body 72 from an exterior surface 96 to the opening 34. A pair of slots 106 and 108 are also formed in the body in communication, and aligned, with the passage 86 on opposite sides of the passage. The ball 90 is formed with a through hole 112 and receives a pin 114 therein, with opposite ends of the pin extending from the ball and into respective ones of the slots 106 and 108. The spring 104 engages and normally urges the opposite ends of the pin 114 against the base surface 98 of the sleeve 76 normally to extend a portion 90a of the ball 90 into the opening 34 for locking a shank 42 within the opening.

    Abstract: A battery-powered hand-guided power tool is provided, such as a hammer, includes a tool housing 3 that contains an electric motor M, a grip housing 2 and a rail-and-channel structure 36, 37, 54, 55 for releasable mounting of a rechargeable battery pack 50. The battery pack 50 is locked in an operative position on the housing 3 in which electrical contacts (51) of the battery pack 50 and associated electrical contacts 42 of the tool housing are electrically connected along a contact length extending in a longitudinal direction of the rail-and-channel arrangement. A latch structure 18,19 located on the tool housing 3 is movable between a latched position and a release position. When the latch structure 18,19 is moved from the latched position into the release position, the battery pack 50 can be moved in the direction of the longitudinal extent of the rail-and-channel structure 36, 37, 54, 55 out of the operative position and can be removed from the tool housing 3.

    Abstract: A chuck 30 is formed with a generally cylindrical body 54 formed with a bore 60 at a forward end 58 thereof. A fixed clamp segment 134 and a movable clamp segment 166 are located in radial opposition in the bore 60. A pair of ribs 142 are formed on the fixed segment 134 and extend radially inward. A single rib 172 is formed on the movable segment 166 and extends radially inward. The ribs 142 and 172 cooperate to clamp a shank 42 therebetween in a clamping mode. A sleeve 78 is positioned about the body and is movable axially relative thereto. A camming section 88 formed on an interior wall of the sleeve 78 is captured between a head 124 of a pin 122 and a detent ring 132 to latch the sleeve in an unclamped mode. When the shank 42 is inserted into the bore 60, the forward end of the shank engages the pin 122 to move the head 124 against the camming section 88 which, in turn, moves the section past the detent ring.

    Abstract: A body 52 of a chuck 30 has an axial opening 34 and is formed with three spaced radial slots 58 which receive three respective locking fingers 68 extending radially inward from a circular band 66. The band 66 is located outside of, and rotatable relative to, the body 52. The band 66 and the locking fingers 68 form a latching unit 64 which is confined to a transaxial plane 61. A spring 70 is attached the latching unit 64 and to the body 52 and normally urges each of the locking fingers 68 against one end of the respective slots 58. A plurality of spaced ribs 54 extend radially inward from an inner wall of the opening 34. A bit 36 is formed with a shank 38 having a plurality of axial grooves 42 which extend through a free end of the shank. A wall of each groove 42 is formed with a transaxial groove 50 at a prescribed distance from the free end of the shank 38.

The latch element 18,19 can be pivoted by a user to extract the latch element from the latch recess 52,53 for the release of the battery pack 50 from assembly with the tool housing 3. On the tool housing 3 adjacent to the rail-and-channel structure 36,37,54,55, there is provided a frame part 15 that includes at least one frame-part recess 16,17.

    Abstract: A drill 30 for driving a bit 44 into a workpiece 50 includes an assembled anvil 58 and spindle 38, which are mounted for rotation together and for axial movement together within a drill housing 32. A planet carrier 56 is driven by a motor 52 and, in turn rotatingly drives the anvil 58 and the spindle 38. A chuck 42 is attached to a forward end of the spindle 58 for rotation and axial movement therewith. A plurality of rollers 162 are mounted in nests 182 of a roller cage 176, are maintained in parallel with an axis of the drill 30, and the anvil 58. The rollers 162, which are included in an automatic spindle lock 33, can be wedged between a fixed surface 74 of the drill housing 32 and a movable surface 102 of the anvil for automatically locking the spindle 38 with the housing. Following withdrawal of the bit 44 from the workpiece 50, an automatic brake 35 provides facility for braking the spindle 38.

    Abstract: A circular saw 30 includes a housing 32, a fixed upper guard 34, a movable lower guard 36 and a shoe 38. A saw motor 48 is selectively operated to rotate a circular saw blade 54 to facilitate the formation of a selective cut or kerf into a workpiece 57 under the control of an operator. A forward end 126, and a wing wall 138, of the upper guard 34 form an enclosed chamber 122 which is placed in close proximity with an adjacent surface 46 of the shoe 38 to essentially preclude chips from discharging through a slight space 39 therebetween. A trailing peripheral portion 148 of the upper guard 34 is formed with an inner radial path for receiving the lower guard 36 within the upper guard, and an outer radial path for management and directing of chips to a rear end 130 of the upper guard for discharging of the chips. A pair of stripes 102 and 104, and a sight window 90, are located on a forward portion of the surface 46 of the shoe 38 to assist an operator of the saw 30 in the accurate formation of the kerf.

    Abstract: A chuck 40 includes a body 42 having a plurality of angularly spaced ribs 166, 168 and 170 formed in a forward cylindrical opening 48 thereof. A locking element 236 is movable within a passage 180 of the body 42, and is formed with a defined portion 242 which is extendable from the passage 180, through an inboard peak surface 172 of the rib 166 and into the opening 48. An actuator 44 is coupled to the locking element 236 and is biased by a spring 250 to urge normally the defined portion 242 of the locking element into the opening 48. A bit 62 is formed with a shank 96 with three grooves 100, 102 and 104 extending axially to a free end 112 thereof. A pocket 114 is formed in a base of each of the grooves 100, 102 and 104. The bit 62 can be manually inserted into the opening 48 of the chuck 40 such that the grooves 100, 102 and 104 are located drivingly over at least portions of the ribs 166, 168 and 170, respectively.
