Abstract: An improved polyformal is provided which has the formula:V-- R -- O -- CH.sub.2 -- O ] Wwherein R is the hydrocarbon portion of an .alpha.,.omega.-glycol, containing at least 4 carbon atoms in a single chain or a 4 carbon atom chain interrupted by a heteroatom which is oxygen or sulfur; wherein V is (a) --OCH.sub.2 OH or (b) --OCH.sub.2 ROH and W is (c) --ROCH.sub.2 OH or (d) ROH, R being as defined, wherein the ratio of the total of (b) and (d) to the total of (a) and (c) is not less than 9:1; and x is an integer representing the degree of polymerization of a magnitude sufficient to produce a molecular weight of at least 500. In addition, improved isocyanate terminated prepolymers and polyurethanes are also provided, as well as processes for preparing the improved polyformal.
Abstract: An improved shampoo composition is provided which comprises a synthetic detergent or a mixture comprising 50 to 60 percent by weight of a soap and 40 to 60 percent by weight of a synthetic detergent, the improvement which comprises the addition of a composition consisting essentially of (a) from about 0.1 to 5 percent by weight of either a mono or diester of polyethylene glycol having a molecular weight of from about 400 to 6000; (b) from about 0.1 to 5 percent by weight of urea or thiourea; and, (c) from about 1 to 4 percent by weight of a liquid polyether modified polysiloxane.
Abstract: A hard surface cleaning and polishing composition is provided comprising mineral oil, a nonionic surfactant, a paraffinic solvent, water, from 1 to 15 parts of a monoalkyl ether of ethylene glycol and from 1 to 10 parts of a monoalkyl ether of diethylene glycol said monoalkyls containing from 3 to 5 carbon atoms.
Abstract: Electrodepositing alkali metals from an electrolyte system comprising a mixture of sulfur dioxide, an organic solvent and an electrolyte salt substantially soluble in said sulfur dioxide and the organic solvent in admixture.
Abstract: A vulcanizable elastomer composition is provided comprising a copolymer represented by the formula:H---- OG ----.sub.n OHwherein---- OG ----consists of randomly alternating structural units (I) and (II)---- OC.sub.2 H.sub.4 SC.sub.2 H.sub.4 ---- (I)---- or ---- (ii)wherein R is one or more radicals which are the residues remaining on removal of two aliphatic hydroxyl groups of diols selected from (a) saturated linear, branched chain or cyclic diols and (b) linear, branched chain or cyclic diols containing external unsaturation having an allylic hydrogen atom; being characterized in that n is an integer sufficient to provide a molecular weight at least about 8000; the molar ratio of structural units (I) to structural units (II) being not less than 1:1; and containing from about 1 to 10 mole percent of the total of (I) and (II) of said linear, branched chain or cyclic diol containing external unsaturation.
Abstract: A process for the restoration of the initial chemical lighting potential of a chemiluminescent lighting system. More particularly, a process for the restoration of the chemical lighting potential of a two component chemiluminescent lighting system.
Abstract: An anionic, gel, cosmetic deodorant composition is provided comprising an anionic base material selected from the alkali metal salts of long chain alkanoic acids of from 16 to 22 carbon atoms, a lower alkanol and from 0.05 to 1 percent by weight, based on the weight of the total composition, of a quaternary ammonium saccharinate salt represented by the following formula: ##SPC1##Wherein R.sub.1 is an alkyl radical having from 8 to 16 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 are either methyl or ethyl.
Abstract: An automatic device for providing chemiluminescent light from a chemical reaction of suitable compounds in the presence of a fluorescent compound, said device being an emergency source of illumination upon failure of public utility service.
Abstract: A vulcanization composition is provided which comprises a halogen- or epoxy-containing polyacrylate elastomer from about 0.05 to 2.5 parts of sulfur and from about 0.5 to 7 parts of either a sodium or potassium salt of 2-ethylhexanoic acid. In addition, an improved process for vulcanizing the elastomers is provided which comprises adding such sulfur and 2-ethylhexanoic acid salts to the polymer.
Abstract: A fabricated packed pipe coupling gland suitable for a connection where there is at least one brittle pipe, the coupling forming a pressure tight, leak proof coupling which is semi-rigid. The coupling is particularly useful for coupling glass pipe to metal pipe for conveying highly corrosive vapors at high temperature, for example heated titanium tetrachloride vapors to a reactor for forming titanium dioxide.
