Abstract: A graphite support leg for positioning an object, such as a pump, in a bath of molten metal. The leg is enclosed in a ceramic sleeve, and an inert material is disposed in a clearance between the leg and the sleeve to protect the leg from the heat of the molten metal.
Abstract: A person's leg muscles can be strengthened with a leg-support cross piece adapted to underlie the person's knee joint while the person lies with his back on a floor surface. The lower portion of the leg is swung up and down around the supported knee joint to exercise the leg muscles. An elastic strap type resistance unit may be extended from the framework that supports the cross piece for partial encirclement of the person's ankle, to increase the effort involved in swinging the leg.
Abstract: A golf practice mat includes a relatively thick base pad formed of a resilient elastomeric material, e.g. foam rubber, and an artificial grass carpet slidably positioned on the base pad. An elastic biasing mechanism is provided for positioning the carpet on the pad. When a golf ball on the carpet surface is forcibly struck, the carpet can slide a limited distance to absorb the club force, so as to lessen the reaction force onto the golfer's hands and arms. The elastic biasing mechanism then returns the carpet to its original position.
Abstract: A decorative hollow Christmas ornament supports a generally spherical body having a plurality of flat, small reflective surfaces for rotation about a horizontal axis. A light source disposed a distance from the reflective spherical transmits light to the small flat surfaces so that their images are then reflected to a wall, such as the exterior of a house, to simulate descending snowflakes.
Abstract: An outdoor toilet system is provided with a mechanism for agitating solid waste material accumulating in a collection container, to reduce the volume of material. The agitator mechanism has a linkage connected to the door of the enclosure in which the toilet is located, such that the agitator mechanism is operated each time the door is opened and closed. The agitator mechanism can be a mechanical agitator or an air jet mechanism.
Abstract: Two picture frame members can have their beveled end surfaces glued together by using a clamp mechanism to force the frame members into pressure contact at the end surfaces. The clamp mechanism includes a stationary stop member having a convex V-shaped edge surface contacting inner edges of the frame members, and a movable clamp member having a concave V-shaped edge surface contacting the outer edges of the frame members. Prongs on the stationary stop member prevent undesired shifting of the frame members while the clamp member is being advanced to exert pressure forces on the frame members.
Abstract: This invention is related to rafts or floating platforms, and more particularly to a platform form of a plurality permanently buoyant panels that can be readily assembled or disassembled.
Abstract: A food energy inhibitor for controlling rodents, such as rats and mice, comprises pellets of either crushed or dried corncobs, or, spent grain bound together with an attractant, such as molasses.
Abstract: Sludge accumulations can be quickly removed from a vat containing liquid resin, by a manual mechanism that includes a porous platform adapted to rest on the vat bottom wall. Lifter arms extend upwardly from the platform to mount lifter handles at the vat upper edges. The handles can be pulled upwardly to lift the porous platform out of the vat. Sludge is retained on the platform, while liquid resin drains into the vat.
Abstract: A rotating shaft for pumping or degassing hydrogen from molten metal comprising a motor connected to the upper end of a hollow shaft. An impeller is connected to the lower end of the shaft in the molten metal. The shaft is telescopically housed within a heat resistant shield shaft. The shield is clamped in a state of longitudinal compression to prevent tensile forces from damaging the shield as the impeller is being rotated.
Abstract: An article display device comprising a metal vertically supported rod, and a plurality of spaced plastic clips thereon. Each plastic clip comprises a body having an integral J-shaped section integrally connected to the body. The J-shaped section has a slot passing through the bight of the J-shaped section for receiving the rod to a position in which one end of the clip is resiliently biased against the rod, and the other end of the body may be depressed toward the rod to form an opening between the jaw of the clip and the rod for receiving a displayed article.
Abstract: A medical diabetes treatment boot can be equipped with a cushion placed inside the boot against an upper rear portion of the boot, to promote flotation support for the wearer's ankle when the cushion includes a soft midsection panel adapted to engage the ankle rear surface; a deformable fluid-containing pouch is removably disposed in a hollow interior space within the panel to provide ankle support. The pouch can be removed through a rear access opening that is normally closed by a zipper closure.
Abstract: An apparatus for moving a stream of molten metal in a bath of molten metal having a housing and steel alloy legs to prevent the housing from rising in the molten metal. The steel legs are protected by tubular shields made of a heat resistant material. The shields each has a lower end attached to the housing and has an inner diameter that is larger than the leg's outer diameter to accommodate the thermoexpansion of the leg. Inert gas is introduced in the space between the steel leg and the shield to form an oxygen-free environment around the leg.
Abstract: An archery bow can be equipped with an arrow guidance-support accessory without requiring any modification of the bow. The accessory includes a pair of linear guide blocks located above the bow arrow rest, a pair of spaced parallel elongated cylindrical arrow supports slidably adjustable in the guide blocks, and a bridge connecting the arrow supports behind the bowstring. Two resilient arrow retention wands extend forwardly from the bridge for frictionally engaging upper side surfaces of the arrow resting on the arrow supports.
Abstract: A golf driving instructional station includes a portable platform equipped with a golf ball support mat, a golf club selector mat, and a shoe-support mat. The golf club selector mat has markings that can be used to select different golf clubs for use with the instructional station. The shoe support mat has shoe-positioner markings that enable the golfer to position his feet correctly when swinging different golf clubs against a golf ball located on the golf ball support mat. Reference markings on the golf club selector mat permit the golfer to reposition the shoe support mat to a proper position for each particular golf club.
