    Abstract: A demand regulator for use in breathing apparatus including a housing, a diaphragm in the housing separating the interior into a first chamber in communication with the ambient and a second chamber, a breathing passage for the user in communication with the second chamber, a valve controlling the supply of pressure to the second chamber and a valve actuator connected to the valve and operatively associated with the diaphragm for operating the valve in response to changes in the pressure differential between the first and second chambers. At least one heat conducting element is located in the second chamber and has a first portion located to receive heat from the user's breath and a second portion in heat transferring relation to the connection of the actuator to the valve whereby heat is transferred from the user's breath to the valve and connection to the valve actuator for preventing freeze-up of the valve and actuator under cold ambient conditions.

At least one processor of a second type also is connected to the main store bus, this being an execution processor for fetching, decoding and executing instructions. All or some of either or both of the auxiliary processors and execution processors may be different. A supervisory processor for initiating configuring and monitoring the system is connected to the main store bus. A communication bus is connected to the processors of the first and second types and to the supervisory processor. A diagnostic bus connects the supervisory processor to each of the processors of the first and second types.

    Abstract: A face mask is connected to a source of breathing fluid through a pressure-demand regulator and a supply line. The regulator admits breathing fluid to the mask on demand and maintains a positive pressure within the mask at all times to prevent inflow from the surrounding atmosphere. The regulator has a flow capacity considerably greater than that normally required, even when gasping or breathing heavily. An automatic shut-off device in the supply line upstream of the regulator permits the peak flow of a predetermined breathing requirement but is responsive to abnormal flow conditions, as for example where the mask is removed from the wearer, to close the supply line and thereby prevent wasting of the air breathing fluid supply. The apparatus can be manually reset to normal operation and will reset itself after the mask is repositioned on the wearer.

    Abstract: An improved method of applying a chemical treatment agent to a wood structure characterized by the conventional steps of forming a hole in a wood object, and inserting a container enclosing the treatment agent into the hole. The improvement comprises sealing the container with a suitable closure means fabricated out of a material which undergoes an interaction with the chemical treatment agent or its vapors. When the sealed container carrying the chemical treatment agent is inserted within the prepared hole, and when the hole is thereafter plugged such that the sealed container is substantially confined within the wood structure, the treatment agent and/or its vapors degrade or dissolve the closure means thereby providing an opening through which the chemical agent and its vapors are released into the internal structure of the wood object.

    Abstract: An anti-siphoning device for preventing the siphoning of fuel. The device is adapted for permanent installation within the intake pipe of a fuel tank, and comprises a coiled, hourglass-shaped spring mounted within a three prong tubular cage. Once installed, the bottom end of the device housing the spring is positioned such that a substantial portion of the spring lies below the end of the filler pipe and projects downwardly into the fuel tank. This arrangement permits the rapid entry of fuel into the tank, while preventing any attempt to remove fuel via the insertion of a siphoning hose or tube.

    Abstract: A method for the fabrication of large surface area thin films of vaporizable solids upon substrate materials is provided. The method is particularly applicable to the fabrication of thin films having semiconducting properties useful as solar cells, in the production of microelectronic devices, and other similar purposes. A solid material is vaporized in a temperature-zoned furnace in association with a flowing carrier gas. The vaporized solid is allowed to condense to form an aerosol of disperse sized particles; the smaller of these particles are again vaporized leaving a lesser number of seed aerosol nuclei which are then grown to a larger size and diverted through an orifice to impact upon a substrate moving beneath the orifice thereby forming a particulate film on the substrate.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a method of fastening electrical wire leads to each end of a ferromagnetic sleeve or core form in a manner whereby significantly greater bonding strength is provided between the leads and the core as compared to prior art methods. The core and wire leads are placed in a molding cavity into which molding material is injected so as to affirmatively fill the clearance between the lead ends and the core thereby resulting in a highly effective cementing of one to the other. The core body is hollow so that the molding material passes through each end to completely fill the central portion of the core. In this manner the central bore through the core body provides effective gating to the injected molding material. The ferromagnetic coil article so formed includes a molded flange on each of its ends which extend radially outward from the outer surface of the core body associated therewith.

    Abstract: A disposable bib, napkin or apron of flexible sheet material having a neck cutout in its upper edge portion and two shoulder pieces adjacent the cutout. The upper edge portion carries a pressure-sensitive adhesive capable of releasably adhering to the clothing or body of a user. The garment is folded upon itself prior to use about a fold line approximately midway between and generally parallel to the side edges of the garment, the adhesive releasably securing the garment in folded condition and all of the adhesive being covered by the folded garment itself. The pressure-sensitive adhesive is arranged in discontinuous areas on opposite sides of the fold line with the adhesive areas offset to be out of contact with one another when the garment is folded upon itself. To prepare the garment for use, adhesive-free edge portions are pulled apart to open the garment and expose the adhesive for placement against the clothing or body of a user.

    Abstract: A pyroelectric detector comprising a wafer of pyroelectric material, means for collecting electrical charge indicative of energy absorbed by the wafer, electrical means for removing and processing the collected charge, a base defining at least one supporting surface, and a flexible suspension for supporting the wafer in spaced relation to the supporting surface. The suspension includes a plurality of link elements each in the form of a thin metal wire fixed to the supporting surface and to a surface of the wafer and located around the periphery of the wafer. Each link preferably has a shape like an arch with both ends fixed to the supporting surface and the wafer surface fixed to the arch between the ends thereof. The link elements have sufficient strength to hold the wafer in spaced relation to the supporting surface, and the links have sufficient flexibility to absorb shock and vibration forces and to compensate for different coefficients of thermal expansion of said wafer and said supporting surface.

    Abstract: A method for preparing a glass container, and for sealing a glass mouth of a container and the seal are described. The sealing surface, or finish, of the container is subjected to a hot end treatment after forming and before annealing to enhance adhesion between the container finish and a thermoplastic membrane seal. The container is next annealed and after annealing is subjected to a cold end treatment in which the exterior container surface is coated with a material which enhances the lubricity and increases the abrasion and scratch resistance of the container. The container finish only is then subjected to a brief heat treatment sufficient to remove any lubricity enhancing material from the finish. A membrane comprising a thermoplastic film is pressed onto the container finish and heated causing glass-plastic adhesion and forming a closure.
