  • Patent number: 6167939
Abstract: The no-sew window drapery system comprises tucking fabric into a rod. The rod has a profile that creates an opening across the entire length and sufficient space in the interior to accept the fabric. The rod may additionally incorporate a locking system to secure the fabric ends inside the rod. The fabric employed is fed into the opening created by the profile, arranged into the style desired and secured into place. Because of the characteristics of the plastic, and the close-fit force exerted on the fabric, the result is to provide a rod which holds the fabric in place. Yet it is easy to install the fabric without the need for any sewing and still give the fabric a customized look.

  • Patent number: 6165588
Abstract: A hollow structural member is reinforced by a housing in the form of a framework exposed structural foam on the housing. The housing is placed in the structural member at an orientation with its longitudinal axis perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the structural member so that the foam is disposed directly against opposed walls of the structural member. Upon curing the foam becomes intimately bonded to the opposed walls of the structural member and to the housing for reinforcing the structural member. Preferably the housing is formed by extrusion so that it can be cut to size across its extrusion axis.

  • Patent number: 6165545
Abstract: A method is provided for after-treating fabric with a fluoroacrylate emulsion by immersion, typically under poorly-controlled conditions (e.g. field conditions), and a second embodiment of this method is provided for treating large, previously manufactured items comprising fabric (e.g. upholstered furniture, tents, awnings, and the like) with an aerosol spray containing micrometer or submicrometer-sized droplets of a diluted version of the fluoroacrylate emulsion. In both embodiments, the fluoroacrylate emulsion contains, dispersed therein with the aid of a surfactant system containing an amphoteric surfactant, essentially a single particulate fluoroacrylate copolymer having repeating units of the formulas I and II ##STR1## wherein R.sub.f is a fluorinated alkyl radical; R and R.sup.1 are hydrogen or alkyl; and R.sup.2 is hydrogen or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl. The aqueous dispersion further contains, in addition to the surfactant system, a minor amount of polar organic liquid.

  • Patent number: 6165519
Abstract: A filter for the adsorption of ingredients from and/or the dispersion of ingredients into a fluid includes a matrix which has a plurality of particles having an inherently active surface or an active surface made of a fluid treating material. The particles are held in place by a moderately viscous binder which is impervious to the flow of the fluid. The particles, however, are made of a fluid pervious material. An insufficient amount of binder is incorporated in the matrix to otherwise completely cover the particles. Thus portions of the active surface of the particles remains exposed to the flow of fluid thereby resulting in tortuous paths of flow through the matrix, thereby assuring contact with the treating particles.

  • Patent number: 6162753
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for recovering cobalt carbonyl catalysts used in the preparation of N-acyl-alpha-amino acid derivatives by amidocarbonylation comprising the process steps:adding aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution to the reaction solution present after the preparation of the N-acyl-.alpha.-amino acid derivative, then separating the aqueous phase containing water-soluble cobalt(II) salt from the nonaqueous product-containing phase, subsequently adding an alkali metal salt of the N-acyl-alpha-amino acid derivative to the aqueous phase from the previous process step, then separating off the precipitated cobalt salt of the N-acyl-alpha-amino acid derivative, andfinally converting the resulting cobalt salt of the N-acyl-alpha-amino acid derivative into the cobalt carbonyl catalyst in the presence of a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen.

  • Patent number: 6161335
Abstract: A balance shoe for a pivotable window sash assembly includes a base unit at the lower end of the balance shoe. The base unit includes a fixed wall having a movable wall connected thereto by a connecting structure. A cam is disposed between the fixed wall and the movable wall for moving the movable wall with respect to the fixed wall while the connecting structure maintains the movable wall in a generally parallel relationship with the fixed wall. The cam extends beyond the upper edge of the fixed wall and the movable wall. This arrangement of elements permits a smaller window to be used while still providing the same egress area when the window is open as compared to conventional window assemblies.

  • Patent number: 6159307
Abstract: Process to avoid adhesions during the annealing of non-ferrous metal alloys, comprising the heating, holding and cooling phases, whereby the material being annealed is exposed to an inert or oxidizing protective-gas atmosphere during the structure transformation, as a result of which a thin oxide layer is formed during this time on the surface of the material being annealed and/or an oxide layer that was previously there is maintained, thus preventing the non-ferrous metal objects from adhering together.

  • Patent number: 6159548
Abstract: A method is provided for after-treating fabric with a fluoroacrylate emulsion by spraying or immersion. The immersion can be carried out in a laundering process (preferably in a late cycle of the process) or even under poorly-controlled conditions (e.g. field conditions). The spraying embodiment of this method is useful for treating large, previously manufactured items comprising fabric (e.g. upholstered furniture, tents, awnings, and the like) with an aerosol spray containing micrometer or submicrometer-sized droplets of a diluted version of the fluoroacrylate emulsion. In all embodiments, the fluoroacrylate emulsion contains, dispersed therein with the aid of a surfactant system, essentially a single hydrophobic component comprising a particulate fluoroacrylate copolymer having repeating units of the formulas I and II ##STR1## wherein R.sub.f is a C.sub.8 -rich fluorinated alkyl radical; R and R.sup.1 are hydrogen or alkyl; and R.sup.2 is hydrogen or substituted or unsubstituted alkyl.
