Abstract: The present invention provides a method and an apparatus to facilitate the use of larger-than-Ethernet-standard frames having different sizes in a network, such as an extended local area network, where the network can include at least one network element that cannot transfer data as larger-than-Ethernet-standard frames. In one embodiment, a method for formatting data for transportation over a network comprises identifying a network element capable of using data formatted as a non-standard frame, such as a jumbo frame. Then, the method provides for determining a non-standard frame size that is useable by the network element. More generally, the technique is applicable to any LAN infrastructure comprised of devices supporting a variety of frame sizes, so that any device may discover the largest frame size that is supported to any other device within the same network.

In one embodiment, the retention portion is configured such that a distal tip of the distal end portion of the ureteral stent is spaced from a sidewall of the ureter when the elongate member is passed through the ureter of the patient to remove the elongate member from the patient.
Abstract: A computer readable storage medium includes computer executable instructions to provide a semantic domain with a plurality of semantic definitions associated with one or more subject areas to a community of users. A data input is received from a user within the community of users. A portion of the data in the data input is linked with a semantic definition from the plurality of semantic definitions to create a mapping. The data input and the mapping are evaluated. The data input is published to the community of users.

Abstract: An improved system for screening a multiple of candidate therapeutic or chemotherapeutic agents for efficacy as to a specific patient, in which a tissue sample from the patient is harvested, cultured and separately exposed to a plurality of treatments and/or therapeutic agents for the purpose of objectively identifying. One particularly important tissue sample preparation technique is the initial preparation of cohesive multicellular particulates of the tissue sample. For assays concerning cancer treatment, a two-stage evaluation is contemplated in which both acute cytotoxic and longer term inhibitory effect of a given anti-cancer agent are investigated.
Abstract: A memory interface permits a read-modify-write process to be implemented as an interruptible process. A pending read-modify-write is capable of being temporarily interrupted to service a higher priority memory request.
Abstract: A computer-readable medium is configured to receive a report processing request at a hierarchical report processor. The hierarchical report processor includes a parent process and at least one child process executing on a single processing unit, and is configured to process the report processing request as a task on the single processing unit.
Abstract: A method of estimating a thermophysical property of a fluid using a local model is disclosed herein. The method includes generating, for use within the local model, a series expansion of thermodynamic equations relating to the thermophysical property and one or more derivatives involving the thermophysical property. The method further includes evaluating, based upon a set of specified values of parameters of the fluid, a first order term of the series expansion and a second order term of the series expansion. The values of the first order term and the second order term are then compared. A value of the thermophysical property is then automatically updated when the values of the first order term and the second order term are found to differ by more than a predefined amount.
Abstract: A computer readable storage medium includes executable instructions to invoke a rapid application development graphical user interface to define fields associated with a set of objects. The creation of new objects derived from the set of objects is facilitated using the rapid application development graphical user interface to select existing fields of the set of objects and define new object fields. Tabs are associated with the new objects. A set of tabs is selected to create a new application.

Abstract: Induction of apoptosis in target cells is a key mechanism by which chemotherapy induces cell killing. An in vitro system has been established for determining carboplatin and paclitaxel (Taxol) chemosensitivity of epithelial ovarian cancer cells, where measurements of caspase-3 activation are surrogate markers for activation of chemotherapy-induced programmed cell death. To validate the assay as a predictor of clinical chemotherapy-induced programmed cell death. To validate the assay as a predictor of clinical chemosensitivity in vitro apoptotic response were compared to the clinical response of the patients from whom the tumor cells were isolated. Caspase-3 activation in response to in vitro chemotherapy to both drugs was shown to have an 83% positive predictive value and a 71% negative predictive value. Markers of apoptosis such as caspase-3 activation can be quantitated and utilized to predict the clinical response to chemotherapy.
