  • Patent number: 6528791
Abstract: Very generally, the gas analyzer of the invention includes a source of infrared energy, a sample cell for containing an analyte gas mixture positioned in the path of infrared energy, and a monochrometer including a movable diffraction grating for producing a beam of infrared energy wherein the constituent wavelengths are spetrally separated. The device also includes a wide band interference filter for transmitting a predetermined wavelength band spanning the characteristic absorption wavelength of each of a plurality of constituent gases in the analyte gas mixture. A detector positioned to receive radiation passing through the filter produces an electrical response related to the infrared energy impinging thereon. The monochrometer includes provision for moving the diffraction grating to sequentially cause infrared energy of different wavelengths to impinge upon the detector, and for intermittently causing infrared energy directed toward the detector from the source to be blocked by the interference filter.

  • Patent number: 6520031
Abstract: A non contacting angular differential displacement torque sensor utilizes a split shaft with a connecting torsion bar with a pair of receive disks each with an intervening coupler disk carrying a conductive attenuating pattern where the inductive coupling between transmit and receive disks is individually attenuated in accordance with the angular position of the shaft on which the disks are mounted. The pair of receive disks which receive signals from a common transmitter have their angular difference taken and this is the actual torque on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 6517498
Abstract: A tissue acquisition system includes electrodes that are energized by a radio frequency (RF) energy source. Retractable electrodes are energized and extended from a cannula and the cannula is advanced in the tissue to position the cannula near the target tissue site in a patient. The retractable electrodes are then retracted and a distal electrode cuts a tissue sample from the tissue site when the cannula is further advanced into the tissue. The retractable electrodes are then energized and extended from the cannula and the cannula is rotated to separate the tissue sample from the tissue site. The tissue sample is ejected through the cannula for collection by advancing a dilator.

  • Patent number: 6515663
Abstract: The invention provides the apparatus for and method of processing three-dimensional images, efficiently and effectively rendering 3D images three-dimensional. The present invention's method of processing three-dimensional images avoids repetition of matrix calculation, and effectively sets the picture frame's Memory address. Hence, it is suitable for three-dimensional images with real-time image. Furthermore, the invention could further include a variation memory arrangement method and device, which could interlace in the Memory the scanning line of the first and second 3D images. It is then possible to display the first and second 3D image groups on the display screen in an interlaced manner according to the traditional scanning circuit and address-translating circuit. As a result, the left eye and the right eye can view the first and second 3D image groups separately.

  • Patent number: 6508898
Abstract: A very soft polyurethane composition is provided having a low level of an aromatic phosphate or phosphonate plasticizer that will perform well as a self-sealing liner to flat-proof pneumatic tires, and will withstand the high temperatures of the tire retread process and still be functional. The liner is produced by a method of meter-mixing an isocyanate component and a high molecular weight polyol component system that can be poured directly into the tire to be lined as it is being rotated to spread the material uniformly in the tire until it sets up and will not cold flow. Also, the meter-mixed liner material can be poured on a flat surface of release paper to form sheet stock that can be cut into strips and then applied to the inner lining of the tire at a later time.

In an aspect of the encapsulating device, the guide assembly has sheath deployment members that are disposed about the tissue specimen. The sheath, which is attached to ends of the sheath deployment members and the wand assembly, is drawn over the tissue specimen as the sheath deployment members are pushed or pulled. In another aspect of the device, the guide assembly is an arm or a housing that rotates about the tissue specimen. The sheath, which is secured at one end to the guide assembly and at another end to the wand assembly, is drawn over the tissue specimen as the guide assembly rotates.

  • Patent number: 6494095
Abstract: A micro electromechanical switch for detecting acceleration or deceleration includes a rectangular planar mass of, for example, etched silicon suspended on a pair of beams from an anchor located in the same silicon base. Motion in a plane of movement caused by acceleration or deceleration is detected by a pair of photodiodes and a light emitting diode located on opposite sides of the planar mass or shutter so that when the shutter moves the interruption of the light is sensed and thus acceleration or deceleration is indicated.
