  • Patent number: 4630363
Abstract: The apparatus of this invention, which performs the method described, includes a die member having a generally rectangular opening having a width between the opposed end walls, which receive the end walls of the nut pilot, less than the width of the nut, and arcuate corners, which shear and deform the pilot end walls and corners, forming the bearing panel support abutments described. The die member includes upstanding elongated clinching lips on opposed sides of the die opening. The clinching lips perferably are truncated, including a flat top portion, tapered side walls and tapered inner walls, which deform the pierced panel edges into the groove openings in sealing engagement, as described. The preferred die member also includes upstanding spanking lips adjacent the end walls of the die opening. The height of the spanking lips can be the same as or less than the height of the clinching lips and the length of the spanking lips is less than the die opening.

  • Patent number: 4623063
Abstract: A fibreboard shipping container for coil material, such as wire, is formed of an octagonal cross-section tubular body having a closed bottom and a cover, with an octagon shaped, tubular core coaxially positioned within the body. A pair of stiff, fibreboard panels are forcibly positioned within the container on opposite sides of the core in substantial face to face contact with their adjacent core wall surfaces, and with their opposite vertical edges pressing against their adjacent interior wall surfaces of the body. The panels have closely spaced, horizontal score lines for folding their lower edge portions incrementally upwardly to adjust their heights to correspond to the distance between the cover and the upper surface of the core so as to apply downwards pressure by the cover against the core.

  • Patent number: 4621635
Abstract: A method of treating external hemorrhoids comprises the preliminary and optional step of rubber band ligation of any associated internal hemorrhoidal tissue, followed by a laser beam-created incision around the perimeter of the base of the external portion. The surface of the external portion is then evaporated with a traversing movement of the laser beam. The laser beam is then employed to form a cavity into the core of the hemorrhoid, dimensioned to accommodate the subsequent insertion of a cryogenic probe, which freezes the hemorrhoidal tissue from the interior outwardly.

  • Patent number: 4620584
Abstract: A green sand mold filling system is formed of an air chamber box having a cover plate which supports a pattern. Air passageway holes, which communicate with the air chamber, extend through the plate and pattern at preselected locations, such as difficult to fill pockets, depressions and the like. An open top and bottom flask section is positioned over the plate and around the pattern. Filling sand is poured into the flask and is mechanically compacted or squeezed therein. During the filling and squeezing, a vacuum is provided in the air chamber and, therefore, through the air passageway holes, to assist the sand flow into and the sand densification at the pre-selected locations. Thereafter, the vacuum is discontinued and pressurized air is provided in the air chamber and, therefore, through the air passageway holes, to assist in separation of the compacted sand from the pattern and plate and to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the cavity formed in the sand while the flask section is removed.

  • Patent number: 4614055
Abstract: A method and apparatus for servicing trunked plants such as citrus trees in which water, in heated or unheated form, is delivered by a manifold system to the base of each tree, conducted upwardly in a hose helically upwardly encircling the tree to a collar encircling the tree at an intermediate location on the trunk, and discharged from a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings in the collar and allowed to flow by gravity back down the trunk. In unheated form, the water irrigates and nourishes the tree trunk. In heated form, the water warms the tree trunk and protects the tree trunk from frost damage. The heated tree trunk and heated water will also heat the air next to the tree trunk. This heated air will rise upward and outward to heat some major branches and foliage beyond the tree trunk area.
