  • Patent number: 4652176
Abstract: A vibratory plow blade having a tapered leading edge, a trailing edge, and a tapered bottom edge wherein the plow blade is configured such that its longitudinal axis regresses or is arcuately angled away from the towing vehicle. The tapered leading edge of the plow blade includes an upper straight cutting section and a plurality of forward angled serrations along its length which provide for downward and upward cutting and fracturing of the soil with each successive stroke of the blade during vibratory action. The guide chute for the cable is mounted to the trailing edge at a substantial bend radius for reducing the flexing required of the cable and reducing the weight of the guide chute. The construction permits close proximity between the plow blade and guide chute for providing increased chute protection and a reduction in the chute frictional drag thereby leaving more vibrational energy for soil displacement.

  • Patent number: 4651858
Abstract: A shut off control system for the fluid activated clutches of a transmission is provided. The inventive control valve automatically shuts off hydraulic flow to the clutches whenever the engine of the vehicle is turned off. When the vehicle is restarted the clutch pedal must be depressed and released before fluid can again activate the clutches. With the inventive control system, the vehicle can be started in any gear but the vehicle will not move until the clutch pedal is depressed and released by the vehicle operator.

  • Patent number: 4649368
Abstract: A resistance heating element of the ribbon type for use in a high temperature electric furnace. The element has the same curved cross-sectional configuration throughout its entire length to give it strength and stiffness and permits the element to be bent into various patterns without any overlapping portions at the bends. The curved cross-section permits the element to be supported at the bends without the element sagging reducing the amount of heat absorption by the supports and allowing greater exposure of the element.

  • Patent number: 4648780
Abstract: The present invention relates to a truck mounted backhoe supported by a frame that pivots between a use position and a transport position in an uninterrupted movement. The support frame is interconnected to the truck by a linkage assembly having two links pivotally connected at adjacent ends with the opposite ends connected to the frame and the truck respectively. A hydraulic cylinder is connected at the adjacent connecting point to push and pull the frame between the use and transport positions. Further, a control station is provided which is pivotally interconnected with the support frame and is moved with respect to the frame as the frame moves between the use and transport position to prevent interference with the backhoe. A bracing frame is provided to retain the frame in a substantially vertical position when in use.

  • Patent number: 4647541
Abstract: A test kit for preparing a chemical test pad used in testing for the presence of occult blood in a specimen. The test kit is a foil package enclosing an absorbant pad bearing a peroxygen agent and a solution of guaiac in alcohol in a separate packet or compartment from the absorbant pad. The separate packet or compartment being rupturable by applying hand pressure to the outside of the foil package to mix the peroxygen agent powder on the test pad and the guaiac solution prior to removing the absorbant pad from the foil package. The method relates to performing a medical test by activating a test pad bearing one reagent by applying another reagent thereto while remaining wholly within a protective foil package. According to the method a test pad containing the peroxygen agent is wetted with a solution of guaiac in alcohol prior to removal from the protective foil package and exposure to a specimen of fecal material and water in a test for occult blood.

  • Patent number: 4648040
Abstract: Engine monitor/control microprocessor primarily effective to automatically adjust the engine power setting in a transmission power train in which the transmission drive reduction is variable in ratio, by step change or continuously so, such as for use in farm tractors. The microprocessor adjusts the position of the setting so that engine power set at all levels is produced at the right brake specific fuel consumption for substantially minimum pounds of fuel per horsepower hour, or within a band width thereof if not all that sensitive. Preferably, the microprocessor has a higher priority primary function of also automatically adjusting the transmission drive reduction ratio, for the same purpose but with high sensitivity.

  • Patent number: 4644631
Abstract: The method of making a replacement flooring for a dump truck having a body upon a frame, the body including front and side walls and a damaged, punctured flooring plate, comprising the steps of superimposing a metal replacement floor over the damaged flooring plate, peripherally welding it thereto defining a sealed chamber between the plates. Further steps include drilling a vent and fill opening through the replacement plate, thereafter injecting under pressure a two-stage thermosetting copolymer filling the chamber and thereafter curing the copolymer providing a hardened spacer filler between the plates. Replacement flooring for the damaged flooring plate comprises a replacement floor plate superimposed over the flooring plate and peripherally welded and sealed thereto defining a sealed chamber between the plates. A hardened cured filler spacer of a thermosetting copolymer material is snugly interposed between the plates.

  • Patent number: 4644968
Abstract: Master clutch pressure and lubrication valve which consolidates both such functions or services for a power operated clutch pack, all to insure the necessary conservation of cooling lubrication oil at times when full engagement pressure on the clutch pack can have stabilized it against further clutch slip, but at times otherwise to insure a liberal flow of the cooling oil. By built-in delay of cooling flow change following clutch actuation in the valve, it makes the transition between the two rates of cooling flow by temporarily sustaining liberal circulation of the cooling flow for that initial time after full engagement pressure exerts itself on the clutch pack. Sometimes a clutch will continue slipping, just for that initial time.

  • Patent number: 4643243
Abstract: A machine for repeatedly impacting metal castings in order to clean the castings of debris, such as sand, is formed of a wheel-like frame which is rotatably mounted upon a horizontal axle. The frame is divided into four equally spaced apart compartments which provide two pair of opposed compartments. The radially innermost wall of each compartment is formed of a metal plate arranged parallel to the axle so that the plate of the uppermost compartment is horizontal and forms a floor-like support for the casting which is then located in that compartment. Each plate is loosely supported upon springs and has an exposed end portion that extends transversely outwardly of the frame. An impact hammer is arranged to repeatedly apply blows that are directed radially towards the axle against the exposed end portion of the uppermost plate for vibrating the plate and for transmitting the forces of the blows to the casting for loosening debris clinging thereto.
