  • Patent number: 4679266
Abstract: A standard size mattress is formed with four longitudinally arranged regions, i.e., a head, an upper torso, a lower torso and a leg support region, for supporting a person comfortably and substantially level. The length of the head support region is equal to the approximate height of a person's head and neck. The length of the combined torso support regions is equal to the approximate height of a person's torso from the crotch to the juncture with the neck, with the upper torso region being roughly two-thirds and the lower torso region being roughly one-third of the length of the combined torso support regions. The length of the leg portion is equal to approximately the height of the legs from the crotch to the bottom of the feet. Thus, the lengths of the four regions are roughly in the ranges of 18%, 23%, 14% and 45%, respectively, of the length of a typical standard mattress.

  • Patent number: 4679690
Abstract: A machine and method for continuously orienting and tapping fasteners such as pierce nuts with the nuts being advanced in face-to-face manner aligned on the machine feed path. The machine is operable in one mode, in combination with nut collection means, to receive strips of the nuts from the feed path in side-to-side array for delivery in installation-ready coiled strips to an installation assembly or the like. One embodiment of the collection means includes apparatus for collecting and dispensing the nuts in unconnected linear stacks. Tapping of the nuts is performed by the machine in a "reverse flow" or deferred manner just prior to the nuts being dispensed from the feed path with the tapped nuts maintained in face-to-face spaced array. The machine reverse flow tapping provides for burr clearance between the spaced nuts to thereby assure that tapping burrs will not improperly position the nuts obviating machine jamming and thread obstruction by such burrs.

  • Patent number: 4674553
Abstract: A permanent casting mold has its casting cavity coated with a sand liner of varying thickness. The liner is thicker where the cast article section is thinner and the liner is thinner where the cast article section is thicker so as to permit the thicker sections to cool faster while the thinner sections cool slower. The different thicknesses of the liner are correlated so that the respective sections of the article are sufficiently cooled at about the same time for removal of the article from the mold. The mold is a cope and drag-type flask mold whose casting cavity halves are oversized relative to the cast article. The sand liner is formed therein by temporarily positioning a pattern within the permanent casting cavity halves and sand filling the space between the pattern and cavity wall. The exterior surface of the pattern corresponds to the cast surface of the article.

  • Patent number: 4672225
Abstract: An anti-theft device for automobile vehicles disables the vehicle's starter ignition system unless a coded resistive element is inserted into the device by the vehicle's operator. A control system senses the value of the coded resistive element and enables the starter system if the sensed value is correct. A latching circuit latches-in enablement of the starter system after an arming switch is activated and the resistive element has been removed, serving to provide a valet function. A lock-out circuit prevents enablement of the starter system for a prescribed time period following an unauthorized attempt at enabling the system, as when an incorrect resistive element is inserted into the device. The device employs a normally closed relay to enable the starter system so that failure of those portions of the device which are most likely to fail does not affect normal operation of the starter system.

  • Patent number: 4669238
Abstract: A mounting system for plastic siding comprises an elongated nailing strip from which a siding panel is suspended by means of interlocking channels which permit longitudinal relative movement resulting from differential thermal expansion or contraction. A predetermined amount of horizontal overlap of adjacent panels is assured by the provision of a notch adjacent each end of the panel, which notch is intended to be vertically aligned with the end of the adjacent panel. The same notches provide a guide for centering the nailing strip on its associated panel. Unintended disassembly of each strip-panel pair is presented by dimple-like deformations near the end of each strip cahnnel, which function to limit the longitudinal travel of the associated panel channel therein.
