  • Patent number: 5859213
Abstract: A method for preparing an aqueous protein composition from human blood plasma, wherein the plasma undergoes a series of treatments by heating and precipitating agent to give albumin solutions containing the precipitating agent, and said precipitating agent is separated from the resulting solutions to give a crude aqueous albumin solution which is subjected to at least one liquid phase chromatography step to retain at least part of the secondary proteins other than albumin. The chromatography comprises affinity chromatography on a particulate support consisting of neutral particles loaded with at least one compound comprising sulphate groups, whereby, after the albumin solution has been fed through, the particulate affinity chromatography support is eluted by feeding through an aqueous saline solution, preferably by increasing the ionic strength, and the desired protein composition is collected by elution.

  • Patent number: 5859301
Abstract: An improved process for preparing alkanones and alkanols by oxidizing an alkane and/or alkene having from 3 to 30 carbon atoms to form an oxidation mixture containing alkylhydroperoxide. A basic, aqueous solution is added to the oxidation mixture so that a separate basic water phase with a pH higher than 8.5 is formed. The alkylhydroperoxide is then decomposed in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst which contains a metal compound immobilized on a carrier material. The metal of the catalyst is selected from the group consisting of Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu. The carrier material is stable in the presence of the separate basic water phase.

  • Patent number: 5855998
Abstract: A hard material-coated wafer that having a distortable substrate and a hard material film deposited thereon by a CVD method is provided. The substrate is substantially flat while in a free-standing state. However, deposition of the hard material film having a Vickers hardness of more than Hv3000 on the substrate causes the substrate to distort into a generally convex-shape. Specifically, the wafer is distorted to the film side with a distortion height H of -150 .mu.m to -2 .mu.m. The resulting wafer can have a total thickness that ranges from 0.1 mm to 2.1 mm; and a diameter that is bigger than 25 mm. Moreover, more than 50% of the film can be polished to a roughness less than Rmax 50 nm and Ra 20 nm.

  • Patent number: 5855239
Abstract: A method for controlling the injection of a die casting machine in which immediately after molten metal is injected into a cavity of metal molds at a high speed, the pressure oil in the chamber at the rod side of an injection cylinder is discharged into a tank side to commence the increase in pressure. A reference point for a switching-over position where a high speed charge is switched over to the increase in pressure is determined by computing a necessary length along the path for keeping the increased charging pressure on the basis of the supplied molten metal quantity during the previous injection process and subtracting the length from the length between the starting position and the position of limit of the forward movement at the previous injection process.

  • Patent number: 5853822
Abstract: A liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof are provided. The liquid crystal display includes upper and lower substrates, electrodes on each of the upper and lower substrates such that the electrodes are facing each other, a first alignment layer formed on the upper and lower substrates and formed of a material which aligns perpendicular to a rubbing direction, and a second alignment layer pattern formed on the first alignment layer and formed of a material which aligns parallel to the rubbing direction. The method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display involves a process where pixels are divided into two halves or in single units, and then each pixel having different aligning directions can be performed through one rubbing step, so that the process is simplified and damage to the surfaces of alignment layers is reduced. Thus, the angle of visibility and display quality are enhanced.
