  • Patent number: 5869962
Abstract: A magnetic detection apparatus detects movement of an object having a nonuniform system of teeth by means of magneto-electric conversion devices, wherein technical problems such as too large an amplified output signal, a nonuniform pulse period and a complicated circuit configuration can be solved. A plurality of uniform triangular teeth are formed on the circumference of a gear at equal angular intervals, and in a predetermined region a trapezoidal tooth is formed, where the height of the trapezoidal tooth is smaller than the height of the uniform teeth but greater than half their height. The magnetized surface of a bias magnet facing the gear generates a bias magnetic field directed toward the gear. Magneto-resistive devices are provided in the bias magnetic field. Variations in state of the bias magnetic field generated by the bias magnetic magnet when the gear is rotated are converted into an output electrical signal by the magneto-resistive devices.

  • Patent number: 5868194
Abstract: A method of making an investment casting mould comprises producing a CAD definition of a turbine blade, and determining the distribution of isosurfaces of constant temperature around the CAD definition of the at least one article if the external surface of the CAD definition of the at least one article was at a high temperature (Thigh). One of the isosurfaces of constant temperature is selected to define the external shape and the thickness of an investment casting mould. A pattern of the turbine blade is produced from the CAD definition of the turbine blade. The investment casting mould is made with an internal shape defined by the pattern of the turbine blade and an external shape and thickness distribution defined by the selected isosurface of constant temperature. The pattern is then removed from the investment casting mould.

  • Patent number: 5870521
Abstract: An apparatus for decoding an input video signal includes edit header extracting circuit, decoding circuit and substitute image replacing circuit. The input video signal includes a sequence of first and second coded video signals, an edit header added to at least one of the decoded video signals before and after an editing point when the first and second coded video signals executed an interframe compression are edited at specified editing points. The edit header extracting circuit extracts an edit header from the input video signal. The decoding circuit decodes the first and second video signals in accordance with the extracted header and outputs decoded first and second video signals. The substitute image replacing circuit, responsive to the extracted header, outputs a substitute image in place of a frame of output from the decoding circuit at a location corresponding to the frame where the second coded video signal after the editing point has been subjected to an interframe compression.

  • Patent number: 5867921
Abstract: A fluidized bed apparatus and process for using the same for drying or cooling powder. The apparatus includes a structure defining first and second fluidizing chambers separated by an air dispersing floor plate having a plurality of openings formed therethrough. The first fluidizing chamber receives fluidizing air introduced into the structure and passes the fluidizing air through the plurality of openings in the air dispersing floor plate to disperse the fluidized air. The second fluidizing chamber containing the powder receives the fluidized air dispersed by the air dispersing floor plate. The apparatus further includes a heat transfer unit including a plurality of rectangular heat transfer metal plates disposed vertically above the air dispersing floor plate. The heat transfer metal plates are arranged in parallel relationship to and horizontally spaced from each other to define vertically-extending external passages therebetween, which allow the fluidizing air to pass therethrough and suspend the powder.

  • Patent number: 5865461
Abstract: An interior finish member having a door suitable for an air bag comprises a main body and a cover portion. The main body surrounds the periphery of the cover portion, and the main body and the cover portion form a continuous surface. The cover portion covers a folded air bag of an air bag device. The cover portion comprises: a door portion which covers the folded air bag; a breakable portion defined by a recessed periphery of the door portion whose thickness is thinner than adjacent portions of the interior finish member so that it may be broken easily in deployment of the air bag; and a hinge portion for connecting the door portion with the main body and for providing a pivot around which the door portion rotates when the door portion opens under a force of an expanding air bag. The main body is made of thermoplastic resin, and the cover portion is made of thermoplastic elastomer. Because they are capable of thermally fusing with each other, the main body and the cover portion can be integrally formed.
