Abstract: Ternary III-V multicolor solar cells incorporating layers of GaAs.sub.1-x-y P.sub.x Sb.sub.y and an improved process of fabricating multicolor photovoltaic III-V compound photovoltaic devices.
Abstract: A process for producing an oxygenated fuel composition comprising gasoline and isopropanol in which a dilute propylene feedstock is hydrated to produce isopropanol in a single pass, the unreacted olefins are oligomerized to produce gasoline blending stock and the isopropanol is added directly to the gasoline pool from a water-isopropanol azeotropic mixture without the use of energy intensive extractors.
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for facilitating the diagnosis and servicing of automotive vehicles wherein a communicating network computer interfaces between a plurality of service agencies and a vehicle data base plus a record storage system. The service agencies have diagnostic test equipment that are provided with unique vehicle specifications and diagnostic information from the vehicle data base through the network computer. Measured diagnostic data from the diagnostic test equipment is supplied to the record storage system through the network computer as well as to display and printing equipment at the service agency. The data stored and displayed and the unique vehicle specifications are sorted by the unique identification of the vehicle. The apparatus permits data base access for improvements and changes to the data base. The storage permits retrieval of data by vehicle, type of service, and summary records to provide improved service agency operation.

Abstract: Crystal formation of CoMoO.sub.4 and NiMoO.sub.4 is prevented in hydroprocessing catalysts containing both cobalt or nickel and molybdenum. The metals are comulled with the support material in the presence of a polyprotic acid.
Abstract: In a process for pyrolyzing a particulate hydrocarbon-containing solid an improvement comprising removing entrained fines from the product vapors leaving the principal pyrolysis zone and pyrolyzing any remaining hydrocarbons in the fines in a supplemental pyrolysis zone.
Abstract: An antioxidant additive combination for lubricating oils is prepared by combining (a) a sulfur containing molybdenum compound prepared by reacting an ammonium tetrathiomolybdate, and a basic nitrogen compound, with (b) an organic sulfur compound.
Abstract: 2-Thiohaloalkenyl-4-dialkoxyphosphino-thioyloxy-6-alkyl-1,3-pyrimidines represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein R and R.sup.1 are independently lower alkyl; R.sup.2 is hydrogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy; X, Y and Z are independently halogen or hydrogen with at least one of X, Y and Z being halogen; possess fungicidal and insecticidal activity.
Abstract: Hydrocarbon conversion in the presence of a low-sodium form crystalline silicate converts normal and slightly branched paraffins, at least in part, to olefins.
Abstract: Disclosed is a lubricant composition containing an oil of lubricating viscosity having dispersed therein a particulate hydrated alkali-metal borate and an effective amount of a ester-polyol compound which stabilizes the composition against the adverse effects of water contamination.
Abstract: A method for extracting bitumen from bituminous sand is disclosed, in which the bituminous sand is contacted with previously recovered bitumen at a temperature sufficient to maintain the previously recovered bitumen as a liquid, and the resulting liquids are separated from the resulting solids.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for disposing of an aqueous solution of radioactive nuclides, in which the solution is diluted with formation water recovered from a subsea reservoir in a porous geological formation and, after dilution, the dilute solution is injected into the same subsea geological formation.
Abstract: A guidelineless riser entry/reentry system which permits a safe and quick release of a riser column from a subsea installation. The system includes two guide funnels mounted on opposite sides of the subsea installation at the upper end thereof for the purpose of engaging respective telescopic posts mounted at the lower end of the riser column. With the posts in an extended position, the riser may be appropriately maneuvered to position the posts in their respective guide funnels. In this way, the riser is properly positioned on and orientated with respect to the subsea installation. The riser may then be disconnectably connected to the subsea installation and the posts moved into a retracted position so that the riser may be rapidly removed from the subsea installation.
Abstract: A process for blending isopropanol from an aqueous solution of isopropanol directly into a stream of gasoline blending hydrocarbons which comprises mixing the aqueous solution with the gasoline blending hydrocarbons, allowing the mixture to separate into two phases and recovering an organic phase which consists essentially of the gasoline blending hydrocarbon and the isopropanol.
Abstract: For the more efficient operation of both spark- and compression-ignited internal combustion engines, and/or control of octane requirement increase in spark-ignited internal combustion engines, at least a portion of the surfaces of the intake manifold exposed to the fuel-air mixture, and/or the combustion chamber exposed to combustion, are fabricated from coated with a material having the combination of thermal conductance and thermal penetration which permits the temperature of said surface during the combustion process to be in excess of the temperature at which deposits form and said surface storing insufficient heat to substantially raise the temperature of the incoming air-fuel charge during the engine intake and compression stroke.
Abstract: A method for reduction of sulfur oxides generated by a coal gasification process is disclosed wherein a regenerable sorbent absorbs the sulfur oxide in an oxidizing atmosphere and releases the sulfur oxides in the form of hydrogen sulfide in a reducing atmosphere.
Abstract: A P-I-N type compensated amorphous silicon solar cell which incorporates an insulating layer adjacent to the compensated intrinsic amorphous silicon layer.
Abstract: Oil-insoluble metal thiolates prepared by reacting an acyloin, phosphorus pentasulfide and a heavy metal salt are rendered oil soluble when combined with alkenyl or alkyl mono- or bis-succinimides. The complexes are effective as anti-oxidants and anti-wear inhibitors in lubricating oils.
