  • Patent number: 6724277
Abstract: A waveguide feed structure having a coaxial transmission line. A conductive, planar septum is disposed in, and along a diameter of, the transmission line. A feed port is electrically coupled to the transmission line. The septum has a rear portion disposed proximate the feed port, such rear portion of the septum extending between the inner conductor and the outer conductor. The feed port and the rear portion of the septum are arranged to establish an electric field in the transmission line between the inner conductor and the outer conductor with a component substantially TE11 mode along a direction perpendicular to the planar septum. A forward portion of the septum is asymmetrically disposed with respect to said diameter in order to provide a gap between the inner conductor and the outer conductor, such gap establishing an electric field component within the transmission line having a TE11 component along said diameter of the transmission line parallel to the plane of the septum.

  • Patent number: 6721766
Abstract: A backup and restore system includes a work item server for restoring multiple work times simultaneously. The work item server assigns each work item to a respective trail queue based upon the commonality of the volumes on which the work items are stored. The work item server allocates drives to the trail queues for restoring multiple work items simultaneously. The trail queue have drives assigned for work items in that trail queues to use during a restore. The trail queue has a concurrency defined to predetermine the number of simultaneous work items can run that are associated with the trail queues. Drives can be allocated to the trail queues for executing work item restores associated with the respective trail queues until a predetermined trail queue concurrency is reached.

  • Patent number: 6721870
Abstract: A prefetch process that generates prefetch tasks for short sequences that are no longer than n tracks in length. The value of n is selected as 8. The prefetch process maintains a history of short sequences, uses that history to predict an expected length of a current sequence and generates a short prefetch task based on that prediction. The historical short sequence data is stored in histograms, each histogram being associated with a different logical volume. The histograms store a cumulative count of sequence occurrences of a given sequence length for each sequence length in a range of 1 track to n tracks. The process applies a probability-based threshold to its prediction to control the aggressiveness of the prefetch task to be generated. The threshold is adjusted based on system activity level metrics, such as processor utilization and average memory access time.

  • Patent number: 6717545
Abstract: This invention relates to an adaptive detection system and method for analyzing range-doppler-azimuth data for target detection. The detection system has a threshold calculator for calculating a threshold value that is based on the standard deviation of the range-doppler-azimuth data and a predetermined probability of detection. The detection system also has a detection module in communication with the threshold calculator to receive the threshold value. The detection module calculates an estimated target amplitude and an estimated noise floor amplitude based on the range-doppler data that is located in a detection window. The detection module detects a target when the difference between the estimated target amplitude and the estimated noise floor amplitude is larger than the threshold value.

  • Patent number: 6705286
Abstract: A system and method wherein a torque monitoring algorithm compares torque demand (i.e., driver-demanded torque computed primarily from acceleration pedal position), with two independent torque estimates (e.g., one estimated from throttle position and one estimated from mass airflow (MAF) to the intake manifold). If the maximum of the two actual torque estimates exceeds the driver-demanded torque, the monitoring algorithm logic intervenes in engine torque production (e.g., shuts off fuel to cylinders) and lights a service (wrench) light. In order to prevent, or minimize, unnecessary engine torque production intervention, reducing a torque demand signal to the throttle by a factor, such factor being a function of airflow meter load divided by throttle load.

  • Patent number: 6707419
Abstract: A radar transmitter includes a digital ramp generator circuit for generating a VCO control signal. The ramp generator includes a digital signal processor and a digital-to-analog converter. In one embodiment, the VCO output signal is up-converted to provide the transmit signal and in another embodiment, the VCO operates over the transmit frequency. Also described is a VCO comprising a DR and a phase shifter. A temperature compensation feature includes detecting the transmit frequency and comparing the DSP output generating the detected frequency to a DSP output stored in association with the detected frequency. Also described is a technique for compensating for non-linear VCO operation in which the DSP output words are adjusted to provide a waveform complementary in shape to the non-linear VCO characteristic. Susceptibility of the radar to interference is reduced by randomly varying at least one parameter of the ramp signal, such as offset interval or voltage range, in at least one ramp signal cycle.

  • Patent number: 6708100
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, an adaptive cruise control system includes a radio frequency (RF) transmit receive (TR) sensor module (or more simply “sensor”) disposed such that a detection zone is deployed in front of a vehicle. The sensor includes a sensor antenna system which comprises a transmit antenna for emitting or transmitting an RF signal and a receive antenna for receiving portions of the transmitted RF signal which are intercepted by one or more objects within a field of view of the transmit antenna and reflected back toward the receive antenna. With this particular arrangement, a detection system that detects objects in a region about a front of a vehicle is provided. If the system determines that the vehicle is approaching an object or that an object is approaching the vehicle, then the sensor initiates steps that are carried out in accordance with a set of rules that control an accelerator of the vehicle.
