  • Patent number: 6473356
Abstract: Circuitry and method for effectuating low power read operations in a memory circuit, e.g., a memory instance having a banked architecture. When a memory read cycle is initiated with respect to a particular memory cell in a selected bank based on a plurality of address signals, a specific wordline associated with the memory cell is driven high. Upon waiting until the bitline coupled thereto reach a predetermined sense level, the wordline is shut off based on a reference memory cell structure, which wordline thereby stops driving the bitline. Subsequently, after waiting for a select time, the sense amplifier senses the data stored in the particular memory cell based a charge distribution between its internal node(s) and the bitline after the selected wordline is deactivated.

  • Patent number: 6466792
Abstract: A system and method for effectuating selective triggerless local number portability (TLNP) processing in a telecommunications network having a cellular network portion and a wireline network portion. When an IAM message is received at a signaling node from an MSC on a TLNP-enabled link set, a determination is made at an STP associated therewith whether the NPA-NXX of the received dialed number is marked as portable. If not, the TLNP processing is discontinued and the message as originally received is forwarded to the wireline network portion for further processing. Otherwise, another determination is made if the dialed number is a ported number. If it is determined that the dialed number is not a ported number, the IAM message is marked as dipped and forwarded to the wireline network portion based on the Destination Point Code (DPC) associated with the message.

  • Patent number: 6466470
Abstract: Circuitry and associated method for resetting a memory storage cell without a dedicated write cycle therefor. Preferably, the storage cell is provided as part of an age_array employed for monitoring the usage of a Content Addressable Memory (CAM). When a match between search data and contents of a particular location of the CAM is found, a Match signal is generated to set a memory storage cell (referred to as an age_cell) corresponding to the particular CAM location. When the age_array is read, the wordline associated with the age_cell is driven high. Upon developing a voltage separation between the data and data bar nodes of the age_cell, a sense amp senses the data value on the corresponding bit and bit bar lines coupled thereto. A suitable data out signal is generated for outputting the sensed data. Also, a reset control signal is generated to indicate that the read operation is substantially complete with respect to that age_cell.

  • Patent number: 6466504
Abstract: A circuit for selectively erasing a semiconductor memory instance on a per I/O basis. The circuit is provided as a tilable architectural element in a memory compiler for the semiconductor memory instance. A plurality of pass gates are disposed between global wordlines provided by the row decoder of the memory array and local wordlines that select memory bit cells in a particular I/O. One or more memory clear signals are used to decouple the local wordlines from the global wordlines and to connect them to a high voltage node, VDD. The I/O is cleared by placing a predetermined logic state (typically 0) on the bitline nodes of the I/O and selectively coupling the local wordlines to the VDD node.

  • Patent number: 6424832
Abstract: A method of supporting functionality for roamer port calls in a radio telecommunications network in which Number Portability (NP) is implemented, the network having a plurality of mobile switching centers (MSCs) and home location registers (HLRs). The network includes a roamer port MSC having a roamer port which is shared with at least one neighboring MSC. A number portability database (NPDB) associates a location routing number (LRN) with each distinct MSC/HLR pair in the network. When a roamer port call, which includes the mobile directory number (MDN) of the called mobile station, is received in the roamer port MSC, the roamer port MSC determines whether the MDN falls within a ported range. If so, a request is sent to the NPDB to retrieve a LRN for the called mobile station. From the LRN, a HLR associated with the mobile station is identified.

  • Patent number: 6397056
Abstract: A system and method of reducing control message signaling load in a radio telecommunications network. When an authentication request is issued by the mobile switching center (MSC), the home network performs authentication of the visiting subscriber. When authentication fails the home network determines if a threshold value is reached. If so, a suitable authentication code portion is included in the return message so that local authentication of the visiting subscriber may be performed. The MSC is able to locally authenticate a visiting subscriber trying to access the network thereby suppressing the transmission of additional authentication requests and failure reports to the home network. For failed authentications, the VLR transmits authentication failure reports to the home network. If a threshold value is reached the MSC locally authenticates the mobile subscriber's subsequent attempts so that the VLR is precluded from sending additional authentication failure reports to the home network.

  • Patent number: 6389039
Abstract: A system and method of transferring data to and from a mobile station (MS) in a cellular telecommunications network. When the MS originates a data transmission, the MS simultaneously seizes additional voice channels or control channels from the serving cell or adjacent cells, fills time slots with data packets, and asynchronously transmits the data packets over the plurality of channels in order to increase the data transfer rate. For data calls terminating at the MS, the serving mobile switching center (MSC) reserves a plurality of channels having sufficient signal strength to maintain a connection with the destination MS. The MSC informs the involved base stations that an asynchronous transmission is to be made to the MS. The MSC then assembles the data packets and starts transmission through the involved base stations to the MS over the reserved channels. The MS assembles the packets in numerical order and delevers the data to the user.
