Abstract: A reclosable package for holding items comprises a container having a front portion, top end portion and back portion. An adhesive front label is applied to the front portion of the container. A flexible adhesive flap is then applied which covers the label, top end, and back portions of the container. The label and front portion of the container has a contoured edge formed therein to define an opening edge. The flap includes a non-adhesive pull tab. Lifting the pull tab detaches the front portion along the contoured edge and also removes the top end to open the package. The back of the flap remains attached to the back of the package to form a hinged connection. The flap is resealable to the front portion of the package, to allow the package to be reclosed.

Abstract: An apparatus for coating molds to make hard gelatin capsules has a dish for holding a bath of liquid gelatin. A multi-well tray is submerged in the bath to establish a plurality of fluid passageways through the bath and to create a pool of liquid gelatin in each of the wells. A drive unit, having a pair of counterrotating gears, moves gelatin through the passageways and pools to maintain a substantially uniform gelatin temperature throughout the bath. Capsule molds are periodically submerged into the pools and then withdrawn to manufacture the hard gelatin capsules.
Abstract: A flavor delivery system is disclosed which offers the combination of improved flavor intensity and extension and, when incorporated into chewing gums, provides desired softness to the gum to facilitate the reduction in softening additives that conventionally add moisture thereto. The present delivery system comprises a composite of a flavor and a resin preferably in a solution mixture with each other, the flavor being present in an amount of from about 20% to about 80% of the final delivery system, with the resin comprising the remainder. Optionally, an emulsifier may be added in an amount of up to 25% by weight. In a further embodiment, the delivery system of the present invention may include up to 25% by weight of a sweetener such as acesulfame-K. The present delivery system finds use in comestibles such as chewing gum compositions and other food products, pharmaceuticals, and scratch-and-sniff and aroma packaging products.

Abstract: Confections containing a volatile oil and designed for dissolving in the oral cavity containing novel volatile oil masking agents are disclosed. The volatile oil masking agents significantly suppress the perception of unpleasant organoleptic sensations such as bitterness or medicinal off-taste initiated by the volatile oil being released in the oral cavity. Masking agents such as fenchone and d-borneol are present in the confection in sensorially undetectable amounts to provide masking of unpleasant characteristics of volatile oils without detracting from the desired organoleptic sensations of taste and the preception of vapor action in the oral cavity.
Abstract: A delivery system for one or more sweeteners offers enhanced up front sweetness intensity in combination with prolonged sweetness duration, and improved protection and stability of the active. The delivery system comprises a first high intensity sweetener encapsulated in a first core coating, and a second outer hydrophilic coating containing up to the solubility limit of the second coating of a second sweetener. The resulting delivery system may be incorporated into a variety of comestible products including chewing gums and other confections, baked goods, oral pharmaceuticals and oral hygiene preparations.
