Abstract: A steel powder suited for powder metallurgical purposes consists of an amorphous to compact-grained, essentially dendrite-free material with irregularly cornered particle shape. Such a steel powder may be produced by causing molten steel to form at least one discrete, relatively thin film on a relatively cold metal surface of great cooling capacity, causing the thin film to solidify extremely rapidly on the metal surface to form a brittle amorphous to compact-grained, in principle completely dendrite-free steel film, and crushing or grinding the brittle film into a powder of an irregularly cornered particle shape.
Abstract: A castor wheel having a fork at which upper part a rolling bearing is applied and being provided with a support means or support plate to which by bolt fastening a load or carriage can be connected, the support means being provided with a relatively thin, slightly deformable layer having projections which fit around the support means wherein the layer has projections which fit through bolt openings of the support means by means of a rim-part which resiliently fits over the edge of a bolt opening.

Abstract: A detachable high-speed optoelectronic sampling head for use with an electron multiplier includes a housing having an evacuated chamber with a pair of transparent windows. Light to be detected is directed to the first window to a photoemissive strip spaced from a ground plane. The photoemissive strip comprises a microstrip, and the housing has high frequency feedthrough means for applying sampling potentials between said photoemissive strip and ground plane. A phosphor layer is provided on the other window in the chamber, and photoelectrons emitted from the photoemissive strip are directed through the ground plane to the phosphor layer.

Abstract: A steel flake product, suitable for being crushed or ground to form a steel powder for powder metallurgical purposes, consists of a plurality of relatively thin, brittle and easily crushed, substantially dendrite-free steel flakes of amorphous to compact-grained structure. Such steel flakes are produced by causing molten steel to form at least one discrete, relatively thin flake-shaped layer on a relatively cold metal surface of great cooling capacity, moving rapidly and substantially across the direction of delivery of the molten steel. Due to the great cooling capacity the layer is made to solidify extremely rapidly.
Abstract: A clutch bearing assembly has inner and outer rings defining a race for ball bearings. The outer ring is adapted to engage a clutch lever, and the inner ring is adapted to be a stationary ring. A sliding sleeve for the assembly is coupled to the inner ring by deformable elements positively affixed to one of these members. The deformable elements may be wire bights having their ends axially inserted in grooves in the inner ring and sliding sleeve. Alternatively, the deformable element may be a spiral spring radially engaging an axial extension of the inner ring and having ends inserted in axially extending holes in the sliding sleeve.

Abstract: A process and apparatus for the automatic checking of machined part surfaces for surface flaws by means of bundled light rays which are directed onto the surface to be checked by means of optical instruments, whereby the light rays are reflected by the surface with varying intensity and in accordance with the nature of the surface, and whereby the light rays, at least partly, are redirected via optical instruments towards at least one light-sensitive element which converts the reflected light energy into electrical signals, and the step of separately evaluating the reflected amount of light as far as its varying intensity and dispersion is concerned, in order to indicate surface flaws of different types, as for example, material and machining flaws.

Abstract: A ball bearing has an inner ring and an outer ring defining inner and outer races respectively. A row of balls is provided between the races, and a cage holds the balls spaced apart from one another. The compartments of the cage are staggered alternately, so that adjacent balls engage opposite regions of the races to inhibit axial play.

Abstract: In a wheel bearing assembly, a roller bearing is mounted within the hub of a wheel, with the outer race of the bearing being fitted in a hub of the wheel. A sealing ring is fitted in the hub. The sealing ring has an angular cross-section, with an axially extending portion engaging the bore of the hub, and a radially inwardly extending portion extending along the outer race. A fastening device, such as a cam surface, is provided on the axially extending portion of the sealing ring to enable fastening of a cap to the assembly. A portion of the radially inwardly extending portion of the sealing ring is axially displaced away from the outer race, so that the surface thereof away from the bearing may serve as a sealing surface engaging a further seal in use of the device.

Abstract: A guide bearing for use in motor vehicles, for guiding a power take-off shaft from a clutch disengaging bearing through the borehole formed in a gear box wall. The guide bearing, at the end intended to be fastened to the gear box borehole, carries, within the guide bearing borehole, the outer rolling path for the gear bearing that supports the power take-off shaft of the disengaging clutch in the gear box. On the casing, the guide bearing carries the seating for its attachment in the borehole of the gear box.

Abstract: An integrated rod butt with rod handle and reel seat is constructed to be interchangeable with various tips by means of a ferrule for mounting the tips to the rod butt. The ferrule includes a locator cooperating with a rod butt locator for precise alignment, and provides gasket sealing of the ferrule to the rod butt. The sealing permits the use of the same lightweight aircraft alloy to be used for all components, including rod butt and ferrule.
Abstract: An improved reinforcing material for concrete and comprising a multitude of relatively short and substantially straight steel flakes. The steel flakes are of a shape tapering towards the ends of the flakes, and they have a thickness of about 0.1 mm to about 0.5 mm, a maximum width of at least about ten times the thickness, but at least about 2 mm, and a length of at least about 100 times the thickness. They are intended to be uniformly distributed and in principle randomly orientated in the concrete. The most preferred dimensions are: thickness 0.1 to 0.2 mm, maximum width 4 to 6 mm, and length 20 to 80 mm.

Abstract: A wheel bearing unit for motor vehicles with at least two bearing parts which can turn relative to one another, between which at least two rows of roll bodies are arranged. The bearing parts each have an outer portion, the first of said outer portions being fastened to the vehicle, the other to the wheel. The fastening is effected by mating threads axially aligned between one outer portion and a connecting part. Means are provided for securing the mated threaded portions against relative loosening rotation.
Abstract: A method of forming a rotary element for a wheel comprising a brake device provided for example with a brake disc and a bearing having an outer and an inner ring between which rolling elements in two rows are arranged, the rings being provided with a flange to which parts of the wheel or such mechanism can be attached, characterized in that at least the inner ring, the flange and the brake device part form a single homogeneous unit and are heat treated as a unit, the ring forming the running surface of the two rows of rolling element which center a cage.
Abstract: A rolling bearing is provided with an integrally assembled fastening flange and inner and outer races and a plurality of rolling elements between the inner and outer races. The rolling elements are separated from one another by a bearing cage. A flexible material seals the area of the rolling elements and their contact surfaces for inhibiting penetration by foreign matter or loss of lubricant. At least one of the seals is fastened on one side of the rolling elements between the inner and outer races against respective first and second walls with each respective end of the seal contacting the first and second walls. The seal ends are held against the first and second walls by a relatively inflexible material element applied onto an exterior side of the seal out of contact with the walls and surrounding the exterior side of the seal for maintaining the seal ends in position.
