Abstract: Methods for manufacture of 5-alkoxycarbonylphthtalides are disclosed. The 5-alkoxycarbonylphthtalides are useful in syntheses of the well-known antidepresssants citalopram and escitalopram.

Abstract: A method for testing of a communication network, using a plurality of traffic agents coupled to communicate via the network. The method includes transmitting a sequence of data packets via the network from a first one of the traffic agents to a second one of the traffic agents and recording arrival characteristics of the packets in the sequence, responsive to receiving the packets at the second traffic agent. The arrival characteristics of different packets in the sequence are compared so as to determine a measure of variability in transmission of the packets via the network.

Abstract: The system (2) includes a catheter drive unit (22) and a catheter (24) extending therefrom movably mounted to a catheter drive sled (26). The catheter drive unit rotates and translates the catheter core (34) within the catheter sheath (36). The sled has a serrated, conical drive unit interface (82), with a bag-piercing tip (86) mateable with a translator drive output (92) so that a sterile drape (112) enclosing the catheter drive unit is automatically pierced when the catheter drive unit is mounted to the sled. A control unit (6) is spaced apart from the catheter drive unit and provides power and commands to the catheter drive unit and receives information and data from the catheter drive unit. The rotator and translator drive motors (54, 90) are operated from both the control unit and the catheter drive unit. Both the control unit and catheter drive unit have translation displacement displays (10, 30).

Abstract: A vacuum control system allows the degree of vacuum in a vacuum vessel to be kept constant while removing vaporized components degassed into the vacuum vessel through a gas permeation diaphragm by stably introducing a very small amount of air into a vacuum exhaust path of the vacuum vessel. The vacuum control system controls the rotary power of a DC brushless motor, continuously controls displacement of a vacuum pump, and thus keeps the degree of vacuum in a vacuum vessel constant, by decompressing the inside of the vacuum vessel using an exhaust vacuum pump which operates with the DC brushless motor, monitoring the inside pressure of the vacuum vessel using a pressure sensor, and controlling a voltage applied to the DC brushless motor on the basis of an output signal resulting from measurement of the inside pressure of the vacuum vessel by the pressure sensor.

Abstract: An interlabial pad is provided that can be easily worn in the interlabial space. A wrapping body is provided that contains the interlabial pad. In the interlabial pad, a finger insertion cavity is formed along the longitudinal direction of a back side sheet between a mini-sheet piece and the side opposite to body on the back side sheet. An opening of the finger insertion cavity for inserting a finger leads to a finger insertion restriction portion which farther restricts the insertion of the finger.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an electromagnetic containment module. The module includes a metal casing sealed by a metal cover. The module contains a printed circuit arranged flat in the bottom of the casing, and an input/output line leaving the printed circuit via one of its edges to pass perpendicularly through a wall of the casing. A cylinder of hollow axis is arranged on the internal face of this wall, the axis of the cylinder being substantially perpendicular to the wall and the input/output line passing through the cylinder substantially along its axis. The cover includes a notch, the bottom of which has the form of a half-cylinder of the same diameter as the cylinder, the cylinder fitting substantially without play in the notch when the cover is closed, so as to electromagnetically contain the portion of the input/output line situated in the module between the edge of the printed circuit and the wall of the casing.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for diagnosing colon cancer by detecting a colon cancer specific antigen, defensin ?6 from the blood of patient and a diagnostic kit for colon cancer comprising anti-defensin ?6 antibody. The diagnostic kit for colon cancer of present invention comprises: a solid support such as 96-well plate for ELISA, nitrocellulose membrane, polyvinylidene fluoride membrane, microplate, glass substrate, polystyrene substrate, silicone substrate or metal plate, on which anti-defensin ?6 antibody is immobilized; and, a means for detecting colon cancer specific antigen such as a primary antibody which specifically binds with an antigen conjugated with an antibody on a solid substrate and a secondary antibody-signal complex which specifically binds with the primary antibody. The diagnostic kit of the invention can diagnose colon cancer with the minute amount of patients' blood, which makes possible the easy and simple diagnosis of colon cancer.

Abstract: A method for channel estimation in an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, including: a transmitter determining a distribution density of pilot OFDM symbols according to the maximum Doppler frequency shift supported by the system, and transmitting pilot OFDM symbols and data OFDM symbols based on the distribution density of the pilot OFDM symbols; a receiver estimating frequency-domain channel information of the data OFDM symbols according to the received pilot OFDM symbols. The invention solves the problem of a large performance loss at a high-delay channel and a system with rapidly varying channel. The invention offers a better performance of channel estimation while the channel environment is varying rapidly, enhances the performance of a high-delay channel, makes a data communication system more suitable to a changing environment and makes better performance to the practical channel estimation, so that the data transmission efficiency of the system is increased.

Abstract: A maraging heat-treatment steel includes 8.5 to 9.5% by weight of Cr, 0.15 to 0.25% by weight of Mn, 2 to 2.7% by weight of Ni, 0.5 to 2.5% by weight of Mo, 0.4 to 0.8% by weight of V, 0.001 to 0.15% by weight of Si, 0.06 to 0.1% by weight of C, 0.11 to 0.15% by weight of N, 0.02 to 0.04% by weight of Nb, maximum 0.007% by weight of P, maximum 0.005% by weight of S, maximum 0.01% by weight of Al, iron and standard impurities, wherein a weight ratio of vanadium to nitrogen V/N is in a range between 4.3 and 5.5.

Abstract: A wafer etching and impurity analysis method is presented in which a wafer is held in a vessel having gas introduction and exhaust ports, a solution including a mixture of hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid alone or together with sulfuric acid is bubbled with a carrier gas without being heated, which generates a gas containing vaporized hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid, and the inside of the vessel is purged so that the amount of gas supplied is kept constant at all times. All or a specific portion of the wafer is cooled to a specific temperature. Consequently, the gas is condensed on the surface of the wafer, which allows the required portion of the wafer to be etched. The method reduces the amount of liquid needed for residue recovery, the amount of admixed silicon during impurity analysis, and the concentration time.

Abstract: Methods, devices, and systems are directed towards managing a database using moderator determined attributes, and a contributor employable bitmask. In one embodiment, the database is employable for use in managing a weblog (blog). The bitmask is configured to enable contributors of a content item to modify selected options of an attribute for the provided content item. In one embodiment the bitmask is stored in the database and is associated with the content item in the database. By enabling a contributor to directly control options associated with an attribute for the content item, changes to selected attributes of the database's content may be made with minimum interaction with a database administrator. For example, in one embodiment, the contributor may directly control anonymity associated with the provided content item, access to the provided content item, and how the provided content items is displayed.

Abstract: A method for galvanically isolated transmission of a signal, especially a switching signal for controlling at least one switching means includes using a transformer. The primary side of a transformer is fed with a pulse-width modulated voltage in which different duty factors are indicative of different signal states. The voltage obtained on the secondary side is converted by an electronic circuit into at least one signal voltage which is dependent on the duty factor and whose magnitude represents a signal state.

The injection molded article of the present invention includes a resin composition containing: (A) a lactic acid based resin; and (B) a natural fiber that contains 40 mass % to 60 mass % of cellulose, 10 mass % to 30 mass % of lignin, wherein the resin composition contains the lactic acid based resin (A) and the natural fiber (B) in a mass ratio of 99:1 to 70:30, and the lactic acid based resin (A) has a resin composition ratio of L-lactic acid:D-lactic acid=100:0 to 97:3, or L-lactic acid:D-lactic acid=0:100 to 3:97.

The apparatus includes first and second output units for outputting first and second control amounts in accordance with the outputted torque signal, except in a dead zone thereof, respectively. The apparatus also includes gain data output units for, when the torque signal, a steering angular velocity, and a vehicle speed are within predetermined ranges, outputting gain data respectively. Steering operation is assisted by an electric motor driven on the basis of the first and second control amounts and the gain data, which afford a control signal to the motor.

The method includes entering a bid order for the financial instrument and placing the bid order in a bid queue associated with a buyer who maintains a list of sellers to sell the financial instrument to. Then, entering an ask order for the financial instrument and placing the ask order in an ask queue associated with a seller who maintains a list of buyers to buy the financial instrument from. Next, the present invention will match the bid order and the ask order and to execute a trade between the buyer and the seller. Lastly, the trade is executed if the bid order is not less than the ask order, and if the buyer is on the list of buyers and the seller is on the list of sellers.
