  • Patent number: 6430701
Abstract: To record data, pieces of second data are produced by dividing supplied first data and an error correction code is added, and the pieces of second data and the error correction code are allocated to and recorded in a plurality of recording and reproducing units, respectively. To reproduce data, the first data is reproduced by synthesizing the pieces of second data read from the plurality of recording and reproducing units. If a fault occurs at any one of the plurality of recording and reproducing units, and if the faulty unit has recorded one of the second pieces of data, the first data is reproduced by reading the second pieces of data and error correction code recorded in the plurality of faultless recording and reproducing units, and if the faulty unit has not recorded one of the pieces of second data, the first data is reproduced by reading the pieces of second data recorded in the plurality of faultless recording and reproducing units.

  • Patent number: 6429673
Abstract: The pneumatic cylinder is fixed on between the lower member of the upper unit and the lower member of the lower unit. As the shaft of the pneumatic cylinder extends, the upper unit starts lowering by its own weight at first. When the upper unit reaches to the point limited by the stopper, the lower unit then starts rising and the lower unit stops in a state where the shaft has extended to its full length. In this state, the probes and are in contact with the printed wiring board as applying a specified pressure to it.

  • Patent number: 6386498
Abstract: A platter for within an oven such as a microwave is provided to hold large food plates or prepackaged meals, such as a pizza. One large dish would be placed below the platter base and one would be placed on the platter base. The platter has three support posts attached to the edge of and elevating a platter base. Two of the support posts are positioned close to the diametrical center creating a large open area for the insertion or removal of large plates of food such as a pizza. The oven or platter may include a base that rotates so that the platter would be placed on the base so that both dishes would rotate. Two large food plates or prepackaged meals may be heated for different periods of time, with the insertion or removal of either plate not requiring the removal of the platter. The platter for large food plates or prepackaged meals is stackable for multiplate cooking of as many large plates of food and prepackaged meals as oven space permits.

  • Patent number: 6347359
Abstract: A method for reconfiguration of a disk drive array is provided. For the method of the present invention, an array controller in a disk drive array examines the original configuration of the disk drive array (the source configuration) and the desired configuration (the destination configuration). Based on this examination, the array controller determines if the reconfiguration process may be optimized. To optimize the reconfiguration process, the array controller determines if a combination of changes to system parameters and possible rebuilding operations can replace the migration process. If this is possible, the reconfiguration process is modified to eliminate data migration. Otherwise, data migration is performed. In this way, the present invention provides a method that dramatically increases the speed of reconfiguration for some source and destination configurations.

  • Patent number: 6307468
Abstract: An improved interrogator for an inductively coupled identification system is disclosed. The interrogator provides a multidimensional electromagnetic field through a plurality of coils aligned relative to each other. The coils provide a rotating magnetic field having approximately constant amplitude regardless of orientation with respect to the transponder. An additional coil may be utilized to precess the multidimensional electromagnetic field. The interrogator may further provide an impedance matching network that includes a series drive capacitor to match the impedance of a capacitor in parallel with a coil to a driver load impedance.

  • Patent number: 6274522
Abstract: Disclosed is a liquid absorbing body and a method of manufacturing the liquid absorbing body which has an excellent swelling property and absorbed liquid holding ability in a vertical state and which is suitable to a mass production at a low manufacturing cost. This liquid absorbing body includes natural cellulose fibers and/or synthetic fibers, a thermally fusible material and a thickening material. This liquid absorbing body is formed by defibering natural cellulose fibers and/or synthetic fibers, a thermally fusible material and a thickening material in air and mixing them to form a mat, heating thus formed mat at a temperature higher than a fusible point of the thermally fusible material and then fixing the thickening material in a web by compressing the mat with a press roller.

  • Patent number: 6247631
Abstract: A soldering iron device has a gas passage formed by enclosing a soldering iron tip 3 of an electric soldering iron with double pipes 6 and 7 to make a nozzle. By providing projections A, B and C in the spacing between said double pipes, the double pipes are prevented from any eccentricity and biasing, and the velocity of an inert gas G to be supplied is made slow to ensure that the gas is jet through the nozzle tip end. Further, engulfing of oxygen in the atmospheric air can be suppressed, whereby it is possible to prevent defective wetting of solder due to high temperature oxidation of the soldering iron tip and to suppress high temperature oxidation of workpieces and flux cored solder alloy and flux, and excellent solderability is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6243001
Abstract: An emergency signaling device for the hearing impaired provides a strobe light in which the intensity of the emitted light is variable. The emergency signaling device comprises a housing and a reflecting mirror coupled to the housing. A strobe light emitting device adapted to provide a sequence of flashing light is disposed in relation to the reflecting mirror so that the light is distributed in a predetermined pattern. The intensity level emitted by the strobe light emitting device may be varied between at least a first intensity level and a second intensity level. The reflecting mirror provides a polar light distribution of the flashing light. The rate of flashing of the strobe light emitting device may be synchronized with other emergency signaling devices.

  • Patent number: 6228132
Abstract: Modified silk processed according to an embodiment of the present invention is an all-natural stretchable silk textile processed without synthetics. The modified silk includes commercially-advantageous physical properties such as stretchability and it is machine washable, wrinkle resistant, stain resistant, and water proof/repellant, which render the silk very versatile and wearable. The process comprises collecting silk, boiling the silk in a water and vinegar solution, whereupon the silk becomes stretchable or elastic. The silk may then be soaked in water and vinegar to add a wrinkle resistant effect. The silk is then fabricated into a silk textile for example in a cross weave configuration, adding an elastic quality without synthetics. The finished product may then be soaked in lemon grass and water to make it stain resistant.

Abstract: A data storage cassette includes an upper cassette half and a lower cassette half and containing therein a tape for storing data. The cassette has an outer shape of a predetermined dimension, and the lower cassette half is formed with a reel lock release hole. A discrimination hole is formed through the lower cassette half at a location adjacent to the reel lock release hole for discriminating the data storage cassette from another cassette having an outer shape of a dimension substantially identical with the abovementioned predetermined dimension of the outer shape of the data storage cassette. A data recording and reproducing device has a discrimination switch or a fixed pin for identifying the presence of the discrimination hole during a loading operation of the data storage cassette into the device and enabling only the data storage cassette to be loaded and set in the device.
